zimmer is definitely trying to get his players riled up with the 'nobody respects us' mantra...'nobody thinks we can win this game'...'the nfl made a video with all the playoff teams in it except us'...there is going to be a lot of negative press clippings on the lockerroom pin-up board this week....

I noticed that I think in the Sea/SF game they were showing a bunch of stats on every NFC playoff team but us.

And all of those Qbs, even Stafford have won a Monday night game, they all can beat a team with a winning record and even have a shot at going deeper into the play offs with a good supporting cast...

Stafford is 0-3 in the Playoffs.

As far as QBs beating teams with winning records:

As of Sept 26, 2019:

CP@ChristianPina

Since 2012, Aaron Rodgers is 7-24 vs +.500 teams

Kirk Cousins: 5-24 record against winning teams in his career.

Matthew Stafford career vs winning teams: 9-54

The more ya know.

Pretty damn amazing
Before looking at that, and relying solely on national media slurping, I would have assumed Rodgers was something like 30-1.
Not joking.
Kind of puts it into a different light.
Great stuff DL.

Perhaps with both Rankins and Davenport on IR our oline can hold it's own.

But I recall the Bear backups torched us in week 4 and GB kept moving Smith inside so I don't think we can hide Bradbury or Elflain or Rieff for that matter.

It's not his fault. The receivers were running the wrong routes in those games, defense sucked, etc.....

The biggest thing the Vikes need to do early is send the TE on routes on early downs and early in the game....we have had a habit of not sending Rudolph on a route unless entirely necessary (2nd half). Need to rotate coverages and CBs on Thomas and Harris is really good at covering TEs....use him instead of Barr; except Brees and NO know how to force coverages.

In our more recent GB game, the GB DEs were set wide, which should have opened up runs between the tackles, but it didn't. Meanwhile, Detroit exploited that same setup, running for 170 yards vs. Packers. Not sure if our interior OL forgot how to block vs. GB, they're just too small for inside runs, or Boone doesn't have good vision to see the openings.

I am guessing the Chicago tried the same thing as GB but we fixed what was wrong?

There is no reason for ANY Vikings fan to have ANY optimism going forward. The entire organization needs a redo starting with the Wilf Brothers who are terrible owners. Sure, they have spent money, but those entrusted to finding and maintaining talent (and paying for the right talent) have entirely failed during their entire tenure as owners.

I won't be optimistic until we can get a coach in here that understands present day football as a minimum. Zimmer is as bad as they get in the NFL.

Interestingly, there are a few other teams that stress running the ball to open up the offense.
It's not just Zimmer. Sadly it appears that some teams seem to know when we are running
and when we are passing. Are we tipping our hand or just too predictable?

I was wondering this as well while watching the niners.

I think it stems both from being too predictable and vanilla in addition to having one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL.

So, you think it's just a predictability issue and not that we're tipping our hand?
I was hoping that we were tipping our hand and someone on the coaching staff
could figure out how we are showing the defense what we are going to do.
Unfortunately, it seems that predictable coaches tend to stay predictable, so,
I hope that you're wrong.

Having a vanilla playbook is essentially a form of tipping off your play strategy. But Zimmer is apparently too slow to realize this fact.

That sounds to me like being predictable. What I'm referring to is tipping off your play
when you come to the line. Are we tipping our hand by personnel groupings, player
alignment, tempo, Oline splits or something else?

Yes, all of the above and other things. Having a pee-wee league play book makes it pretty easy for the other team to figure out what you are going to do when you essentially operate from the same pattern of players and formations without making any chances including half time adjustments.

This is probably because the Vikings are looked at as the biggest underdog playoff team in more than a decade.

This just in. Beating good teams is hard.

Most playoff teams get there by pounding bad teams and doing so-so at best against good teams. winning barely enough to get by.

The Vikings aren't there yet. We pound the bad teams and do very poor against good teams. We really just need to beat one or two good teams in a season and then we'd be a legit contender. So far the only season that happened was 2017.

Exactly! In 2017 we beat a really good Saints team at home and a really good Falcons team on the road if my memory serves me correctly. I'm definitely not asking to win them all. Winning one or two is a huge difference when it comes to playoff seeding. I'm not ready to throw Cousins to the curb. Now if he comes out this week and gets another 7 first downs I may rethink things. I'd really like to see what this offense could do if we had a more offense minded coach and maybe 1 more lineman upgraded. Get a serviceable 3rd target too! That shouldn't be that hard to do. In the meantime show some frickin heart this weekend! I don't expect a win, just want our team to fight.

Let's start by not going 2-4 in our own division.

We have not beaten the Bears since Cousins arrived. We're 1-2-1 vs the Packers.

Thank the maker that the Lions find ways to **** it up or we may have gone 0-6 vs our own division this year.

Good news, vs the rest of the league we were 8-2.

We can beat people.

I read the article and come away with 'We finally got a decent QB just in time for the defense to turn average'.

It's the biggest lock in sports.

For the 30th consecutive season, 4+ teams make the
@NFL Playoffs that didn't make it the previous year.

Titans
Bills
49ers
Packers
Vikings

I cannot agree that KC is the second rated team above San Fran, NO, NE, and probably even Seattle.

San Fran I agree. Solid all around team. Defense is amazing. Offense gets the job done. can go toe to toe with anyone.
New Orleans is beatable, they got pasted by the Falcons in their own house.
New England is a shell of it's former self. They nearly lost their division this year. It's the first they've had any real competition in a decade
Seattle? Most games they pray for Wilson to unleash another miracle. KC is better

Maybe the master of building up the team going into big games can redo his motivational stuffed animal massacre again, that worked so well the first time...

How about you just F u C KING put in a solid week of serious prep where you honestly evaluate every man on the team who can start and place them in the best situations to do their given jobs to exploit Saints weakness or shore up our own, entrenched starters be damned...

And you know... have a real game plan and expected adjustments which can be implemented in real game speed... hmmm... that would be genius no?

No excuses. I mean, they didn't really need to game plan vs. the Bears. So hopefully they were already planning for the playoffs. Seriously, I will really be disappointed if I don't see some changes.

Oli Udoh flashed both in pass protection and in run blocking yesterday. Here's a few snaps of his at right tackle going up against Khalil Mack:

https://twitter.com/i/status/1211734416864743424

it would be huge if we could count on udoh at rt next season - o'neill at lt....

Personally I would bench Reiff and start Udoh for the playoffs. That's me. I mean, I figure we have to do something different than what we've been doing. On defense I would start Odenigbo ahead of Everson Griffen and i would play Kearse on nickel downs.

i agree that if the defense goes out there and just plays our straight up game we'll get hammered...especially with all the zone we've been playing this season...we need to change some things - shorten the time brees has in the pocket - be more physical....

ONeil would need more than two weeks to make the switch back to LT.

I would LOVE to see something innovative. Like Thomas doubled with two physical guys. Rhodes to disrupt him at the line and Kearse over the top.

I was thinking of keeping O'Neil at RT (why fix it if it ain't broke) and put Udoh at LT. That would be a bold move, but at least we wouldn't be switching two different positions. Udoh must have been practicing on the left side as a backup, but perhaps not. If he hasn't practiced there then I guess you're right.

I was in Vegas Sunday and wanted to bet the Vikings to win the Super Bowl. However, the Vikings were playing the bears at the time so no bets allowed. Had to leave before the game was over so unable to place my bet.
I live in Arizona so I don't think I can bet from home. Anybody know how this works? I also want to bet the Vikings +8 against the Saints.

Now all we have to do is figure out how a beat a team that is determined to be bad.

The Vikings have signed DE Eddie Yarbrough off of the Bills’ practice squad, per source. He gives the Vikings some extra pass rush help as they prepare for the Saints this Sunday. (Field Yates on Twitter)
