Unless we go on a magical run 2020 is SB or bust for this team. I expect all the major parts to be here through Cousins contract.

I wouldn't draft a qb in the 1st 3 rounds. Either Cousins rises to the occasion and earns a new contract or a new regime will be put in place and we can let them find our next qb.

So Kirk Cousins at 33 years old is magically going to get it?
I think we know who he is. Everything about him screams average QB. He’ll whip up on bad teams but struggle vs good ones under pressure. How many times we need to see it
He suckered our front office into a big contract off the “but I played for bad teams”
I’d rather go after a Tua. This draft class is loaded at QB. Would be foolish not to go get one

It'll be predictable what happens with this team. We keep Zimmer and next year is a disaster. I might as well get used to the idea now. I think it would be crazy to not be looking for our QBOTF. Teams should always be on the hunt for that. After all everyone is one play away from being done. If there's a great looking prospect that falls in the 1st I'd take him in an instant.

Isn’t a team playing with a lame duck coach the blueprint for a tanking season?

Playing on the road is always tough - and even more so in the playoffs. A win this weekend would be a nice upset!

I was torn about playing starters last week. But what we ended up with was essentially a mini bye week. Some guys have been resting for several weeks now. I actually think that helps these guys.

I agree with others assessments that NO will bring lots of pressure on our OL and Cousins. I hope we have a nice section in the playbook for TE screens and quick slants to counter that. With all of that traffic at the LOS, we may need to pass to set up the run. The OL is going to need to play its best game of the year. They played like crap against GB, so here's hoping they play strong.

It may be hard to sack Brees, but the DL need to remember to stay disciplined and get their hands up if the rush doesn't get there. There will be opportunities for batted passes, including on bootlegs. Remember, Brees is not tall.

Zimmer is great at defense. Let's see some new coverage schemes on Thomas at a few key points in the game. As others have said, a couple of turnovers would go a along way to giving us a win here.

The pass defense - especially the secondary - has been a bit maligned this year. Maybe they have just been waiting for this moment to really shine....

MN is as good a team as NO. They are. NO has the advantage since it is at their place. But MN could roll in there with some swagger, play smart and tough, and get out of there with a win.

agree with the rest week

we needed some rest, and it was extremely unlikely (impossible?) that we would get a playoff bye

also, improves our draft position

IF we play our best game in all 3 phases, we can beat anyone, IMO....will we?

The draft position is not determined by records for playoff teams.

The four teams eliminated in the wild card round pick in slots 21-24 in the reverse order of their final regular season records

Buffalo and Houston are the only other 10-6 teams. If one or both of them lose it could move us up one or two spots depending on how the tiebreaker works.

They play each other so one will definitely win, which might help the Vikings if they lose tomorrow.

Finally, someone who doesn't hold back anything concerning the coaching of this team.

For years, this has been a really talented team, but the coaching has held them back.

I heard the Wilfs gave a vote of confidence in Zimmer...they should see this rant.

https://youtu.be/09P0Yg9HOl8

Does anybody have reason to believe that the Wilf's value winning over bottom line profits?

We are the perfect NFL franchise to own. Minnesota nice fan base. Media afraid to ask real questions. The league is against us. We love to hold onto losers. All the fans, and local media, asking for patience for Ponder, Frazier, even Williamson and Treadwell.

2020 Vikings will be led by Spielman and Zimmer. Zero doubt in my mind.

Looks to me like the Wilfs want to win. Just compare them to Red McCombs. Or to the Twins.

Unless Zimmer can show he can compete with winning teams keeping him here another season is just pushing back a rebuild another year. Another year lost.

Roster wise these two teams are pretty equal.

Comes down to coaching

Zimmer vs Payton

It's about time Zimmer shows he can beat a good team on a big stage w/o the aid of a X-mas miracle.

I agree with you.

But, would you call shanking a 27 yard FG a Christmas Miracle to Pete Carroll? After the guy is 3 for 3 from longer distances.

It was and that would/should have been a quality win on a big stage. However, that was when 2014? Zim also had some quality wins in 2017. But the last two seasons he's 2-11 against winning teams and the 2 victories were against the Eagles who finished each year 9-7.

This is a what have you done for me lately league and it's time Zim proved he can coach against one of the better coaches in this league. While Pedarson is a good coach I think those 2 victories had more to do with having a superior roster.

I shouldn't just single out Zim but he is responsible for having the entire team prepared. But Stefanski and Kubiak have laid plenty of eggs this season as well. Namely the the latest GB debacle where they were completely out schemed by Pettine and did not even counter with any halftime adjustments.

Hey, guys-

Can anyone tell me why in the ##&*%) the Wilf braintrust would publicly give their endorsement to both Zimmer and Spielman THIS WEEK, of all weeks?

I don't get it. We've done nothing but lay eggs vs. good teams in big moments since these guys arrived. Why not collect the last little tidbit of input from the Saints game, at the very least, before announcing anything? I get that Dallas may be sniffing around for Zimmer. But if they're that interested, they could certainly wait. Why NOW?

It was I a wise business move if he were looking to have leverage in a trade of Zim to the Cowboys. Sadly though i don't think that is the case.

Last year Harris/agent said he is looking forward to free agency. Besides, we had little to no room to sign anyone. And, while he came off a good season, the jury was still out as to whether to pay him well.

With all the injuries we've sustained in recent weeks, it feels like we're being held together with Elmer's Glue. We're a walking Mash unit.

National media is really down us. NO CHANCE at all. We are literally an afterthought.

If there's a game you can get up for, it's this one. No reason to come out and play like pansies. Zimmer has no reason to "Play it Safe." There should be no wasted plays. Playing it safe on defense. Playing it safe on offense. LOSERS Mentality.

Payton is gonna come out with the intention of going for the throat right away. If we WIMPY our way out on the field to start, it won't be pretty.

New Orleans can be had. Brees can be flustered and hammered. Zimmer needs to be Exotic and Chaotic.

Stefanski, are you looking for a head coaching gig? Here's your chance. Show up with REAL game plan. Make those teams looking for head coach take notice. Don't come out with some conservative shit plan and then watch the team the team fall behind by three TDs.

They need to let the Saints know right away they're in for a fight. Punch 'em in the mouth from the start.

If you're gonna lose, go down swinging.

What?

We are not a walking mash unit.

The starting offense is TOTALLY INTACT. That has to be a rare feat.

The starting defense is virtually intact, all present except the great Ben Gedeon. One could count the nickel as a starter, but even then we have only one-two of twelve out.

Will be interesting to see if Cook and Kendricks really are healthy, but we are far healthier than the norm.

Far more important than our "walking mash unit" is what was written a few days ago.

Will we see Kirk Cousins come out with his helmet practically over his eyes, head down for extended looks at his feet? And when he does surface, does he have that weird frown/grin smile going? Will he be wound tighter than a drum?

And as mentioned, what kind of gameplan will we have, and will we finally make in-game adjustments for the better?

this is incredible....

Chris Tomasson@christomasson
#Vikings list CB Mackensie Alexander (knee) as out, list CB Mike Hughes (neck) as out, goes to IR. Marcus Sherels signed by Vikings. Ifeadi Odenigbo is questionable. Eric Kendricks will play.

If folks need some more good news........

Betting nugget: In his career, Cousins is 0-15 outright and 1-13-1 ATS against teams that finished with at least 12 wins in a season (the Saints won 13 games this season). The outright winning percentage is the worst by any quarterback in the Super Bowl era. Meanwhile, New Orleans is 11-3 ATS since Week 3, the best mark in the NFL.

Mike Hughes being out may be a good thing. He’s awful.

I think the only way the Wilfs have the stones to can Zimmer is if this team looks as competent as they did vs Green Bay and just get embarrassed again on natuional TV

Who gives a fukk about the spread? What position does he play?

While we're at it, let's save the arcane analytics that mean nothing, like what we've done in the last 20 years in some sliced and diced situational milieu.

Really eye opening Kyle Sloter interview

And I can tell he really wanted to name names, but thought better of it.

https://youtu.be/rbeAPSkua04

One way to see it: If he's accurate, they decided they wanted Mannion over Sloter before any practices because Mannion was the chosen one for some unknown reason.

One way to hear it: As someone who is in denial or just lacks awareness that there's a level of preparedness that he repeatedly lacked. When he talks about the switcharoo where he was supposed to get his shot at second-team reps and found himself again running with the threes, is he leaving out anything? Like maybe an evening session where they're in the film room/playbook and he acquits himself poorly? That is what we hear. He even says he has no idea how he's supposed to help the starter prepare; maybe that tells us all we need to know about his ability to do the work off the field that the job requires.

We don't know, and we probably never will. I'm not currently Spielman/Zimmer-positive, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt on this because they want a good backup, and if he was ready to be that guy, I think he probably would be---with us or someone else. And, btw, I was pro-Sloter and excited about him the whole time he was here. Sometimes we just don't know what we don't know.

Sloter is just a guy. If he were so great or had such potential he wouldn't have been sitting on the Cardinals fricking practice squad. He was pick up by Detroit because the magical arm of Jeff Driskel got injured.

We really need to give up this crowning of Sloter. It's gotten worse than Todd Bouman fer cripes sake

Who knows? By that logic, Odenigbo has little potential because he was cut by the Browns and Cardinals. Lots of noise in talent evaluation.
