Nice to get back on the winning track.
Cousins probably had his best game since the middle of last season.
Dalvin Cook just gets more and more lethal. His pass catching prowess was on full display today.
Defense continues to be very stingy with points allowed.
Felt good!

And as an aside...I hate the Saints, but god damn, I can't help but feel good our old pal Teddy.
He put together his most complete game thus far today and he's undefeated since he took over.
Pretty damn impressive comeback story brewing down in the bayou.
How can you not feel good for the kid?

Love the guy. Hate the frickin Aints.

I remember the day he got injured. Literally felt like getting kicked in the gut.

Yeap. I remember it well. Had no idea and came here later in the day and there was about 15 pages of unread posts. I was so excited to see who we signed/traded for based on the traffic Gut punch.

All good stuff.

As far as Cousin's success goes, I feel it has a lot to do with Zimmer and the forced run game plan. He shut things down last year and early this year and I think that affected Kirk and the WR's. You can't be as run dominant as he wants and be successful. Balance is required and we saw a better game plan today and it worked. Cook and our line can be stopped if a D only has to focus on that. I hope Zimmer has learned that lesson.

As much as I hate this term... Bingo.

And, once again, Barr shows why Zimmer's defensive game plans drive people insane. When Barr is used aggressively he is a very disruptive player.

Barr is hurt a lot though too...If I remember right he didn't play against the bears....so there is that too, we aren't as good w/o him.

Big difference yesterday....we didn't run that great early so we passed....which setup the run later. We released the rookie WR too. Screen game was really effective.

Couple of Bisi Johnson factoids.

He now has 8 receptions. Treadwell didn't get his 8th reception until game 5 of his second year. I know, low hurdle.

Johnson has 8 receptions on 8 targets. For his career, Treadwell has 56 receptions on 91 targets for a far lower completion rate. It's not as though Treadwell made a practice of running deeper, lower completion percentage routes.

Colorado State had a pretty good pair of WR last year....Bisi is with us and Preston Williams at Miami.

Had to listen to the game on the radio

-What's wrong with Rhodes?
-Too many penalties
-Agree on the comment that Cousins needs to throw the ball away if no one is open vs taking a sack

-Announcer was praising Kline all afternoon
-Why was Cook still in the game in the 4th qtr?

My $.02:

1. Good win to, hopefully, get back on track. I know the Giants aren’t very good...especially on defense, but nobody needed a shot of confidence more than Cousins. Hopefully he can carry that into Philly who is depleted in the secondary.

2. Defense played well but were hurt by a number of penalties which extended drives. I agree with others who say we need to be more aggressive on defense. We have actual weapons in Barr and Smith but don’t blitz them that often. Those guys are difference makers and blitzing not only gets them home, it opens things up for Hunter and Griffin

3. Speaking of Griffin, his spin move has been filthy lately. He is playing great.

4. While yesterday’s offensive performance was light years ahead of the previous week, we still had problems in the red zone. Against better teams we have to get the ball in the end zone. Some times it’s penalties that push us back (always seems to happen on 1st down) and others it’s not getting a push up front to be able to punch the ball in. Either way, we need to get that tightened up.

5. Bad kickoff coverage.

6. Love Dalvin but you can’t fumble inside the red zone. Great job by the defense to get the safety and the ball back. Could have been a big momentum swing for them but we shut that down quickly.

7. I’d like to see Diggs come through on the jet sweep once in a while. It always seems to be Thielen, even when we fake it.

8. Rhodes struggled a little yesterday (plus his obligatory injury on the 1st drive) but our secondary is solid. Considering we have Alexander and Hill not playing, that says a lot about our coverage ability when we are fully healthy. Once that happens, that should open up Zim even more to get more aggressive. I think the one weak spot on our D is the DT position next to Linval. Haven’t seen much from Shamar or Jaleel. Hercules was supposed to help get a push in the middle on 3rd downs but wasn’t getting the job done and has been inactive the last couple of weeks. Haven’t seen much from Holmes either. Odenigbo has been a pleasant surprise and I’d love to see Watts get a shot who looked very good in the preseason.

9. I think our best oline combo is Reiff, Dozier, Bradbury, Kline, O’Neill.

10, Again, good win on the road so not too much to complain about. Let’s see it against a good team starting next week.

It has really hurt the defense that Alexander has been hurt. Alexander is a dominate blitzer coming off of the edge remarkably....need to get him healthy and then that usually confuses the defense when you have Smith, Barr, Kendricks, and Alexander crowding the line.

Hughes looked really good yesterday.

Jaleel Johnson has made some plays. Probably never going to be a great pass rusher but he is playing better this year.

I wonder if Collins gets a shot at LG when he gets healthy. There must be a reason we have held on to him this long.

My $0.02:

Lots of great comments on here already.

Winning on the road is tough, no matter the opponent. Good win.

I will bitch about refs not just after a loss. A few crappy calls, like the false start when Rudolph was about to shift and a crappy PI call.

Barr was solid.

Hughes was great!

Griffen has gotten better against the run.

Cadbury Egg got better as the game went along. Another solid outing for ONeill and Kline.

Cook is a beast. He has amazing acceleration at the corner. Bad fumble though.

The one KO we let them get going on, you could see it coming. We were asleep on it because so few are returned. Good wake up call.

Overall good win.

Other random musings:

Happy for Teddy. Saints are looking like a tough team to beat this year.

I hate DAL, but they got jobbed by the refs. There were so many bad calls and non-calls in that game. Understood Garret's frustration on the challenge.

GB is not all that (or their defense). DAL gave them those turnovers with sloppy play. When they stopped beating themselves, they moved the ball at will.

DAL defense was very soft though.

Loved CHI losing to OAK. I still don't buy the Bears either.

I feel good for Teddy and root for him to do well but also for the Saints to lose 50-49

Green Bay getting calls? Shocking

Hard to feel bad for Dallas though. Just saying.

There are no great teams in the NFC. If we can right the ship on offense we are as good as anyone. Hopefully the line comes together a little (keep in mind it takes a line time to gel and we have a rookie center plus a LG that just switched from center after not having played their since junior year of college). This week is a big game. Philly could be a team we are battling for a WC spot if we can’t win our division.

Dallas had a horrible game plan against GB...you run on them first; their defense is setup to defend the pass. Game flow dictated it but getting that early lead sure helped GB.

Nice get back on track on game, especially for the offense. Had the flow of the game been difference they could have easily dropped 40+, to think we only punted once and that was early in the 4th quarter where the offense was backed up.

Cook is out of this world, he might not get downfield as much as Kamara but he's every bit as good as him overall. His ability to take 2 yard gains and make 15 is incredible. My only grain of salt is the Giants have a terrible defense that take terrible angles at times. Even when the draft was happening he's the guy I hoped would land to us in the 2nd, thought it was crazy the Jags would draft Fournette at #5 and we could nab a back every bit as good and more of a modern day back in the 2nd.

Typical Shades game, gets wide open half a dozen times, makes great catches while blanketed and overall being the straw for our offense.

Kirk was on today, he even showed some good presence at one point on a 3rd and goal he made some moves to evade the rush and he did well to take the sack and ensure a 2 score lead. Let's not overreact to a clunker by the entire offense at Soldier. The issue with Kirk is he had 1 terrible game at Soldier, an average game in GB with 1 terrible mistake, and 2 games where he would have probably put up big numbers had we not run the ball so easily. Fantasy football is now used as the metric to rate players by the public. Had Kirk gone for 300 yds and 3 TD vs the Falcons and Raiders there wouldn't be so much scrutiny. That being said Kirk needs to show up vs a good defense, next week should be interesting because the Eagles have a great front 7 but a weak secondary.

We all know Rudolph can't run yet he got extension, no need to beat this dead horse. Still it's crazy to think we keep Rudy while letting one of Harris, Waynes or Mac walk. I laughed when I heard Kirk mention you have to trust Rudy when he's covered because he can make a great play. Kirk was really saying well he's basically always covered except on these slip screens where the D knows he isn't a threat. Need more Smith, and how in the world did he hang onto that pass while getting flipped over.

Some love for Dan Bailey, that stadium can be tricky with the swirling winds.

The D were their usual selves. Griffen is back, I was worried we would be lacking a bit up front this season but Hunter and Griff have been arguably the best DE combo in the league. My worry lands more on the interior line who haven't been able to get that same push.

Barr was excellent, as was Harrison. Mike Hughes making plays, the kids got ball skills. Rhodes has been ok, not worth what he's getting paid but at the same time it was a great play by Jones and Slayton.

Thought the D was on the field a little too much in the second half and we were quite fortunate with all of the penalties the Giants were committing. They were running the ball quite well with that Penny. Still great job to stiffen up where it mattered most.

The 2 picks by Dak really were the difference. One wasn't his fault the other was but also a great play by the Packer defender to cut off the cross field pass.

Really happy for Teddy. Who knows maybe he makes his way back here.

He's now 20-12 in his career, and that includes a meaningless week 17 loss last season and a rookie season with us where he went a commendable 6-6.

The worst reffing was saved for the Chefs/Colts game last night. The refs tried everything they could to keep the Chiefs in it, they even messed up some reviews. The Colts dominated them, that OLine is fantastic.

It just felt like Barr didn't play against the Bears. He played all 70 defensive snaps and managed 2 tackles and nothing else.

He's the definition of inconsistent - both in his effort and how Zim plays him game-to-game.

When everything lines up right, like yesterday, he's awesome.

My thoughts

We played an excellent game almost all around. Except for one bad attempt at kickoff coverage leading to a TD we stuffed em
Set aside that all of their starting LBs were out.
Set aside they were starting a Rookie, albeit one that has played well so far
Set aside they were without their superstar RB who would have completely changed the complexion of the game

Defense when not put on a short field by the KO coverage blunder held the Giants to 3 points, Kept them out of the endzone. There were some annoyances later in the game when they had third and long a few times and were able to convert. But otherwise solid effort.

My favorite play of the day was right after Cook's lost fumble, the Defense came on the field, said oh hell no you are not getting momentum from that and tacked the RB for a safety.

The offense mixed things up really well running and passing. blocking was good. and we moved the ball well. Cook doesn't fumble and Mattison can get an extra few yards and we win 42-10.

Bailey damn near missed one again. come on dude.

We hardly had to punt but when we did they went nowhere.

Oline looked decent for a change. Many time Cousins had time to serve a picnic back there before he threw.

This is kind of what the offense should look like. Run pound pass when they sell out to stop it and just keep eating up the clock.

Loved this win. But against a better team who knows what happens?

His job on that play was to not get beaten by Slayton. And Slayton beat him. That road was open. He's getting paid to not let that happen....and that's probably why Zim was chewing his ass out on the sideline after that play.

There was that early pass play that Cohen beat him badly ... I wonder if part of it is that he’s too hard on himself like Cousins.

Which is sort of pathetic at this level for this money ...
