I really can't wait to hear the full story Bruce. When you are up to it, write it down and paste it here.

Agreed!

I joined here just because of Bruce's story (and I think I joined on Bruce's birthday). We're practically family now!

But yeah, I'm definitely curious to know the full story. Very scary stuff. I was just reading how a healthy 20-year-old had to undergo a double lung transplant.

quote:

Northwestern Medicine surgeons have performed what is believed to be the first double lung transplant on a COVID-19 patient.

The patient, a 20-year-old Hispanic woman, spent six weeks in the intensive care unit on a ventilator and a life-support machine that performed the work of her heart and lungs.

“By early June, the patient’s lungs showed irreversible damage and lung transplant was the only option,” Dr. Ankit Bharat, chief of thoracic surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital said Thursday. “If she didn’t have a transplant, she would not be alive.”

The patient underwent a 10-hour surgery Friday and is in stable condition.

“This important milestone shows the transplant procedure is quite challenging technically, (though) it can be done safely, and it offers terminally ill COVID-19 patients another option for survival,” said Bharat, one of the surgeons who performed the transplant.

During her time at the hospital, the patient was among the sickest in the COVID-19 intensive care unit and the entire hospital, said Beth Malsin, a pulmonary care and critical care specialist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

“She is one of the youngest people we’ve seen with this degree of lung damage,” said Malsin, who works in the COVID-19 ICU.

Just unreal. Very glad Bruce is doing better and on the mend.

In football related news:

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN says that Cook felt “disrespected” by the offer that the Vikings sent in his direction in an effort to extend him beyond this season.

I’m told he’s planning to hold out simply because he felt disrespected by the offer the Vikings put on the table. This is a player that believes he’s one of the best at his position, but he wasn’t asking really for Christian McCaffrey money, which is $16 million per year. He would probably take less than that. So they have about a month to try to find a sweet spot before training camp or else he plans to not show up.

"Disrespected" - never a good thing, especially with one of our team leaders. Also, we don't need any more key players on offense unhappy.

So, it appears the contract offer will be between 8-16 million a year, but probably more like between 8-13. I wonder if 10-11ish would be enough. All the data shows not to pay a running back this much, but... how much is he worth to our team, who also just shipped away Diggs? I don't know, but I hope it gets resolved with Cook happy in purple.

Just got the news. Second consecutive test showing I am covid free. It means I'm home very soon,!!!!!

for how long were you unconscious?....

About a month.

Waking out of that must have been the most remarkable thing...did you have any sense of time when you came to?

I think I did a a lot sleeping. I remember a doctor asking me if it was night or day. I guessed wrong. I told him night time and it was 3PM.

I miss you guys so much. I mean, there isn't much football to talk about and I'm mostly sleeping if they aren't asking me to eat, do physical therapy, or I'm not on the phone. I've made a lot of phone calls to assure folks I'm going to make it.

I didn't get one.

I agree about empathy. It means sympathetic listening where it's ok to disagree with each other because we love with a parent's heard. It means listening until the end and making it clear you understand what the other is saying.

Great post on both fronts.

We are upside down with the league in terms of being a run-first team. All that debate aside, a second order affect is with contracts like Cook. Couple that with Cousins' contract and the big $ contracts on defense, and it becomes a problem.

The Cowboys are facing this problem. For the Panthers, TB is getting $14 M this year. Next year $23 M but they don't have the outlays for their defense.

Meanwhile they are trying to get me to eat better. At first they were more worried about choking after coming out of the feeding tube. I've been upgraded to their best food. It's still barely edible. I lost a lot of weight.

Please stop losing weight. I might find it.

Cousins aside--

What do we think of the metric and subsequent rankings? I "built it," so I am curious.

This is based on 2019 performance only. https://t.co/N1BzAu2ma7

My only thought is can you imagine how pissed off the egomaniac Rodgers would be looking at that. 😂

Cousins has largely been rated in the 12-17 range in the strictly opinion shows like Movin the chains, and Bruce Murray’s show. Just FYI.

I think that finally actually has Cousins underrated.

Cousins was the #4 rated passer last year. No question he is a top 10 QB. Just a question of how high up.

I think Cook is a great RB, but he has had 1 good season. He has to come to the realization that he isn't anywhere near the McCaffrey or Zeke level. I think we could pay him 10 Million per year with incentives to make a bit more based on potential. Hopefully he will be happy with that. If he were on the open market he would quickly find out that 31 other teams disrespect him just as much as the Vikings.

The biggest issue with Dalvin is his durability. He's so good when he is feeling right, but he is held back by injuries a lot of the time. You can't commit huge money to a guy who spends more time in the tub than on the field. I love him as a Viking, though.

You almost just have to let Cook hit the market. He just is not worth big money. Not until he strings a couple top seasons together. He has not yet had one of those. One good season. Could you imagine what the response would be if he played for the Steelers?

What do you mean by this? Are you referring to Bell and/or Brown?

Because there was a lot of drama there. I don't think we want to compare.

Maybe the Patriots would be a better team to emulate in this case? Take what we're offering or...

That's my favorite plan. No doubt he's one of the best - but you just can't pay everyone what they're worth ... as we all know.

That damn GM job is pretty darn important, if you don't get lucky once in awhile - and the Vikings ain't about that kind of luck ... yet, anyway

I was referring to Bell. And he was a LOT more established as a top RB in football at the time.

Just reported

Several NFL players including Zeke test positive among the increase in positive COVID results in Texas.

Are we far enough in advance of reporting in July or is this going to totally derail a Sept start??

Put this one in the 'duh' category...

Players testing positive is a development that was predicted by Dr. Allen Sills, the NFL's chief medical officer.

"We fully expect we will have positive cases that will arise," Sills said in May.

THIS is some pretty crappy stuff. I stopped reading after he held that Cook averaged more yards rushing per game than (list of the best backs in the league.) Then he went on to state that "This equates to 1,162 rushing yards per season." And no, no mention that Cook only has played about 1/2 of the games, literally trying to snow people into thinking that Cook has rushed for 1.162 yards per season for his career. This is disingenuity at it's finest. I honestly don't believe that I am capable of being that disingenous.

End of the article is a section about guard for Eagles tearing his Achilles. Said there was a spike in 2011 when there wasn't OTAs/spring work due to contract negotiations.

I hope our S&C coaches is including some ligament stretching/work with a similar situation due to COVID. With such a young team/injuries would crush us.

Cook has to play 8 games correct for the year to count?

If that is true he can come it for the final half of the season healthy and with something to prove.

If he is awesome, franchise for next year. NFL players rarely can afford to sit out forever. Each game is a decent chunk of their career.

No way do I break the bank for him. Nothing says he is a every down back for multiple years.

He was very average the final half of the season.
