Picture of my television of a high school game in Georgia. Now we know why they are #6 on the highest-infected-rate-state list. Some learn slower than others.

732 new cases in South Dakota today. They are currently #6 in cases per million population. They weren’t even in the top 20 not so long ago and were 15th about two weeks ago. Uh oh. Pheasant season is just about to start. Sanford and avera remain at capacity and are no longer taking patients from their satellite hospitals. They tried to reach Noem for comment but all they heard was mrph mrph ma nerf mrph (trumps dick was in her mouth).

Not really that surprising that States like the Dakota's, Wyoming, Montana and some midwestern states to be their peaks now being they were relatively free early on when both coasts were getting hammered by it.

High Schools and Colleges are mostly in person.

There have been some positives and quarantining at our high school but we are back to lowest alert level right now. Volleyball team had a 2 week break but are playing again.

Covid 19 coronavirus: World Health Organisation backflips on virus stance by condemning lockdowns

"The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganise, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we'd rather not do it."

The lockdown isn't designed to be some kind of permanent situation. It's designed to put a screeching halt to the rampant spread of the very contagious virus. A city/state that doesn't lockdown at all is going to have a huge spike and many deaths. A city/state that locks down for a 4-6 week period is going to reduce both to a trickle. At that point things can re-open in a carefully considered manner.

Our problem is that, without any leadership at the top, we never took a hard stance at the beginning, which allowed the virus to spread out of control.

If we wanted to cut the deaths in half, it would have to have been a permanent situation until a vaccine is available.

Then we are looking at probably 40% unemployment and a Great Depression. Unless we printed up another 5-7 Trillion dollars.

The lockdown's purpose was to buy time for our healthcare system to reconfigure itself to deal with the pandemic. Post-lockdown we needed energetic and purposeful leadership to push masks, distancing, and hand washing - EVEN IF THAT MEANT DOING SOME THINGS THAT AREN'T POLITICALLY POPULAR. That's a test of leadership - am I willing to do something for the good of the people even if that means I get some blowback from it. We all see what we got. Failure.

Failure.

I'm guessing you would say Minnesota did all these things you are talking about.

What did it get them? Higher death per capita rates than a neighboring state that did little of those things.

We shut down too early so it was ineffective.

Any state that didn't condemn Protests/Riots as super spreader events loses all credibility in the fight against Covid?

Like Trekky said, this isn't a political issue.

They did condemn them. Everyone did. Were we supposed to shoot them or drive our cars into them?

Really??

Maybe Walz did but did the Mayor and City Council? They were trying to join the Protestors.

Mark - you have a lot of opinions about how the pandemic should have been handled. I'd like to hear your opinion on Trump's handling of it.

C-

My only opinion I've had was that there were states getting trashed(in here) who have had less deaths per capita than the states that were perceived to have handled it better.

JBusse brought the facts to the thread and was met with the usual one star rating.
