Looks like it may not have mattered who was in goal
with how flat we were.
It would be nice to steal a game we didn’t deserve on occasion.

We ran into a buzz saw from the get go last night and were not at all ready for it.
The Avs came out fast and had their way with us pretty much the entire 1st period and it wasn't much better for us in the 2nd.
I didn't stay up for most of the 3rd since we went down 4-1 early in the period and I had seen enough by that time.
I haven't heard or read anything yet, but that Dumba injury didn't look good.....hope it's not as bad as it looked originally.
A good game to forget and move on, we all have bad days.
Oh, and it wouldn't have mattered who was in goal last night. Talbot kept them in it as long as he could under the circumstances last night.

Looked like they were skating in quicksand last night. Totally unprepared to play. Hopefully, Evason blistered the paint on the walls of the locker room before they left.

Sometimes a good ole fashioned beat down is good for the soul. They got a little used to playing the Coyotes of the world and forgot that the Avs are in the Vegas tier of teams. I don't remember the last time we were so embarrassingly outshot though, sheesh. Anyway, I'm sure they'll bounce back. They have a nice mix of youthful exuberance paired with some sold veteran players and much improved goaltending. Outside of the PP, this team is vastly improved and so much more fun to watch. Special K is everything I hoped he would be and more...

We don't want to overachieve and screw ourselves out of a few more needed, high round draft picks for the future. A few more reality speed bumps like last night should show us where we really stand and what we need to get where we want to go.... On a long playoff run for the Cup!

Game 2 in Colorado and so far pretty much the same thing.....down 0-2 12 minutes in.
No answer for MacKinnon-Landeskog-Ranten line.

I jump back to the game and it's now 0-4 with 13 minutes left in the 2nd.......may the Avs will take their foot off the gas soon.

We beat them twice in the earlier match-up. Just missing a couple of key players can make a difference.

I want to see more of Greenway. He deserves some PP time. Get him in front of the net.

Bottom line is we aren't there yet. The Avs have far more high end talent on their current team than the Wild have ever had. If we have to play them in the first round of playoffs, it will be just like when we played Chicago at their peak.....no chance of making the 2nd round. It is what it is, but at least we are seeing signs of growth and a new attitude we have never seen from any Wild team.

And....other than against the Avs, they are fun to watch.

So far the Wild are continuing their lethargic play against the lowly Ducks.
What happened to the team that was so fun to watch just a few weeks ago??

They had a fire lit under them coming out in the third period. They looked SO much faster and aggressive. And it paid off. Nice to get a win and start a new streak.

They didn't kick it into gear until Suter scored on the PP. That seemed to put a little energy in their game.
Coasting through 2+ periods and then having a big push to end the game may work against the bottom half of the league, but as we recently witnessed in Colorado, it sure doesn't against top teams.
They need to play like the last 10 minutes the whole game to even have a chance.
Take the win and move on.....plenty of things to work on still.

That 3rd period broke a string of at least 8 straight periods of looking like they were skating through mud. The Colorado series was one game where they got run over by a truck and another game that was the truck throwing it in reverse and running over them again. You can't wait two periods of the next series to shake that off.

I like that Evanson stated as much and called them out on it. Said they looked like crap in the morning skate and warmups and it followed suit. They got it together at least.

It can't be just missing Marcus and Matt's (Dumba) energy can it?

Man, we looked like Koivu's team for 2-2/3 games...

Props to Cam, he is playing well.

He left the forum over that incident. Apparently he decided he didn't like being hacked.

Who can blame him?

Regarding last night. One stat was thrown out there got me thinking. They mentioned that Scotty Bowman use to say the combined ST's numbers have to equal or be greater than 105 to have a shot at the cup. Ours sits at 94 with a very good kill. If we can get to even middle of the pack we would be a dangerous team. As such we are low seed playoff contenders.

Someone sent me a PM about it. He is missed in the Hockey Thread and all threads of course.
