Ian Rapoport reports the Panthers have interest in free agent Dwayne Haskins.

Make that call ASAP to Carolina.

There's not enough first and second rounds in this draft to address all the needs this team has. There's not enough money available to address them in free agency either.

Our quarterback's contract is killing this team, period. Because of him, we need the greatest offensive line in NFL history and because of his contract we have no money for high-profile free agents.

Find a buyer for Kirk Cousins. That should be the first order of business.
Which teams are suckers? The Raiders? The Falcons? Denver? Bears? Giants?

My first call is to John Elway. He seems to have no idea what a good QB looks like in the year 2020.

Next is to the guy in Atlanta. Their QB is one of the only quarterbacks with less mobility than Cousins. Matt Ryan Killed the Falcons this season. Cousins looks like Usain Bolt compared to him. Has the same pocket awareness.........NONE!

The 49ers are our only hope for trading Cousins.

Raiders, Broncos and Giants all have young QBs they are going to stick with. ATL and CHI will draft one.

The Raiders, Broncos and Giants all have turnover machines at quarterback. I'm willing to bet the coaches would be more than happy with a fresh start with our turnover machine. The kid in Denver is terrible. Cousins would be an upgrade. I think time is running out on Carr in Las Vegas.

Personally, I think a Carr for Cousins trade would be good for both franchises.........for about six weeks.

Without a doubt Cousins is grossly over paid. But there were several other moves that have not helped either.

-Asking Rudy to take a pay cut. Instead Rudy walks away with a multi year ext. Nice neg tactics...This after investing a 2nd rder to replace him. The only concession is that it freed up some money now but it still has to be paid.

-Re-signing Barr to like 14ml per. Again freed up money this year but it has to be paid.

-Ext Cousins so we could free up 10ml now but all but crippling our cap the next two seasons.

-Also moved some money around on kendricks contract to free up money now but has to be paid later.

-Reiff was the only move that panned out. But could have been disasterous on the field had he left.

Basically Spielman has been kicking the can down the road the last couple off seasons in an effort to win now when clearly the team needed to be purged and rebuilt. In the end it's the Wilf Bros ultimately responsible for this salary cap mess. Spielman is pulling the strings but he is simply in job preservation mode and will continue to make more crippling moves that are going to set this franchise back for the next regime. Wilf's had an out but blew it and are now married to Spielman's desperate ways unless their willing to eat Spiel's and Zim's extensions.

The Rudolph and Barr contracts are worth more than they deserve, but the Cousins contract is just obscene. Every team has a Rudolph and Barr contract on the books. Cousins is making double what he deserves. It's inexcusable.

Your gift for exaggeration lives on. Cousins is overpaid. Overpaid by $16.5 million? No. Cousins is currently the 8th highest paid QB in the NFL. He also has the 8th highest QB rating in the NFL. He isn't even top 10 in guaranteed money or total contract.

For contrast, Ben Rothlesburger is the 4th highest salary and has the 22nd highest rating. Goff is #5 and # 26 respectively. Cousins is overpaid at a position that is chronically overpaid as a whole.

I think Cousins is comparable to Ryan Tannahill. Both system type qb's that are simply avg but not difference makers.

Tannahill signed a 4 yr contract worth 118ml so he isn't making much less than Cousins.

Renegotiating multiple contracts to pay later is a sign you are on the way to cap hell. When the money comes due, you are IN cap hell.

Conversely, several years ago we renegotiated contracts to move more guaranteed money up front.

8th rated? So what? Cousins has always put up stats. So has Andrew Wiggins.

When your QB has a FORTY-ONE MILLION DOLLAR cap hit after an initial deal that was only three years, then yeah your QB is pricy. He better have gone to at least the conference championship game and played well.

IMO the QB who most exhibited 'IT' was Joe Montana. Cool under pressure. Steve McQueen cool.

As for opposites, QBs who get rattled, who fold like a cheap suit, who go 3 and out/4 and out, who can't even lead a team to a division crown, Cousins fits like a glove.

QB Rating means almost nothing to me. There are different QB Ratings depending on the metrics they use (he's No. 20 on ESPN, which is closer to where he deserves). Joe Burrow has the No. 27 QB Rating in one of them and No. 25 in another. Who would you rather have? Much of QB Rating is tied to the guys they have around them. All I need is my eyes.

The guy is not a winner nor a leader of men. I've seen it many times.

In my world, Cousins is a $15-million quarterback. He throws a nice deep ball. That's where it stops for me. He's not a finisher, and to get that kind of money you need to be a finisher. Most of the legends of the game that got paid a lot at that position were finishers. Roethlisberger is a finisher. Brady is a finisher. Mahomes is a finisher. Brees is a finisher. Russell Wilson is a finisher. Aaron Rodgers is a finisher. Josh Allen looks like a finisher. They are all guys that when they take the field with the game on the line, you know they are going to lead their teams to wins. Kirk Cousins is not one of those guys, not even close. He can bring you to the dance, but dances like Elaine Benes once he gets on the dance floor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQu_NLRvULM

Tannehill can run and he plays with grit. When he takes the huddle, the people around him respect him (a leader). I don't see that with Cousins.

Cousins is good, not great. Great QBs have many traits but one that sticks out to me is that when you need a big drive late in a game to win or tie their game just seems to elevate. They get even better. Cousins games goes right in the shitter when we need a big two minute drive.

Don't forget the Yannick trade. Paid the guy 10M to play 5 games for us. Money that could have been rolled into 2021. Could have kept Reiff next year.

A line of Reiff, Ezra, Bradbury, Udoh, ONeill. Draft S, DT, DE. I'd be a lot more optimistic about this team.

Spotrac doesn't have any cap charge(for us) for 2021 for Ngakoue.

He doesn't cost us any new money next year. What Pager was referring to was the ability to roll unused capspace into the next season. But we used up our space on the panic trade for Yannick:

The final element of determining cap space comes in the form of adjustments. The biggest of these is the salary cap “rollover”. This “rollover” allows teams to bring their unused cap from the previous season into the current season. For 2020, the Indianapolis Colts led the league rolling over more than $41 million from 2019, with a total of seven teams rolling over more than $20 million. These numbers are then added to the base salary cap, $198 million in 2019, to give each team a final cap number.

How does that work?

It will be a blessing in disguise.

Probably ensures that we unload Rudy.

Precisely. He's not a finisher.

Cousins is good, not great. Great QBs have many traits but one that sticks out to me is that when you need a big drive late in a game to win or tie their game just seems to elevate. They get even better. Cousins games goes right in the shitter when we need a big two minute drive.

Cousins isn't Joe Montana or Patrick Mahomes----we get it. He is a mixed bag, but he has delivered at times. At other times, he's failed personally. But if you look at all the failures---including those where he's at fault and the rest---many more times he either gets deluged in pass rushers, the routes are slow to develop, no one ultimately gets open, or, inexplicably, we're trying to establish the run.

He has issues. His contract is an issue. But the primary issues are further up the food chain and ultimately lead to the failure of the Wilfs to embrace the era in which they find themselves. Y.A. Tittle and Frank Gifford and Sam Hunt aren't walking through that door, Zygi.

Sell the team---you're the problem.

But could have been disasterous on the field had he left.

the fact that we used up our cap space is probably why Dan Bailey is still our kicker.

Ngakou trade was really misreading the room.
This team had no chance nor do we have the cap space to sign him long term.
We need draft capital and that move cost us dearly

They may not be walking through the door, but I bet they'd still have better footwork in the pocket.

$6.8M according to Spotrac, but point well taken.

The last 10 Super Bowl winners first pick in the previous draft. Is tanking viable?

Chiefs 2019 - #56
Patriots 2018 - #23
Eagles 2017 - #14
Patriots 2016 - #60
Broncos 2015 - #23
Patriots 2014 - #29
Seahawks 2013 - #62
Ravens 2012 - #35
Giants 2011 - #19
Colts 2010 - #31

The Vikings might as well best the lowly Lion's.

This could be the most meaningless stat of all the meaningless stats you post.

Most teams don't go straight from tanking to the Super Bowl. We aren't likely to either, win or lose, but a loss gives us a chance to pick ahead of some other teams, and that could make a difference down the road, if not immediately next season. Hopefully a loss leads to a new regime, but that's a long shot given the recent extensions.

Other than both Mannings, all those teams QBs were picked later. So tanking really didn't set them up for success.

I'm really thinking Lance will be there when we pick. Will Speilman put aside his love for Cousins and set the Vikings up with QBOTF? Maybe since it would be a home state hero who would be praised by pretty much everyone.
