Zimmer, who entered the NFL as a defensive backs coach, also parted ways with defensive backs coach Jerry Gray following the 2019 season. Gray was subsequently hired by the Packers, and has been instrumental in developing Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas, and Eric Stokes into good cornerbacks. Meanwhile Zimmer has struggled to develop any in Minnesota since then. Even Xavier Rhodes, who was a cap casualty for the Vikings following the 2019 season, flourished last season in Indianapolis after back-to-back poor seasons with the Vikings.

So, what happens with Kirk Cousins now?

I can tell you this... There is *zero* chance a new GM/coach combo walks in and says, "Let's extend him for 3 years and attach our careers to Kirk Cousins."

So, he's getting traded.

good riddance

It could be something as little as “Hey, how are you doing?” in the hallway or feeling like guys walking by in the hallway and they say ‘hello how are you doing? Good morning.’ We spend so much time together and the season is so long that little personal things here or there could make a big difference for a young guy or even a rookie that’s coming in and isn’t really sure how he fits, if he belongs. Little different personal things like that because guys play their best when they feel good about themselves and their role within a team. The more we can cultivate a culture that guys feel good about being themselves and they’re important to the team and everybody’s in this together. And when young players start to learn that earlier on, they start to do better, and that everybody’s behind us and all of our successes and all of our failures go together. The more that we can understand as players and coaches that we’re all in this together, I think we’d go a long way to making this a better place. - Brian O’Neill

wow

lots coming out about the piss poor culture in that locker room

will be a refreshing change

Brutal.

Zimmer was actually worse than appeared. Saying something. How can anyone be sad to see him go?

There are at least 5+ threads on Reddit crying over his demise..

One of my Minnesota buddies said he was listening to KFAN and Paul Allen sounded like he was literally crying or sobbing on air yesterday about the news.

I'm sure whomever comes into be the GM will be thrilled with having five picks from the 5th through 7th rounds. This guy Spielman was a disaster. People forget he also threw away our 4th rounder this season on Chris Herndon.

He put us in cap hell with his contracts, and gave us three meaningful picks to rebuild. Good luck to the new GM.

Agree the new GM will not have any assets to work with unless he tears it down to the studs.

The Harrison Smith ext was really stupid. Why pay a 32 year old S Jamaal Adams money when you were already over the cap. Herndon and Yannick trades were panic. Glad he's gone but now were left with a bit of a mess.

Guess we're not getting a decent GM. Nobody will want to come to a new team missing their 4th round pick.

Maybe I'm wrong, but couldn't a new GM get out of cap hell in one year if they wanted to? That part of it is not too challenging. It's more the lack of young talent on defense. The other challenges (drafting a QB, etc.) are par for the course for a GM.

Don't get me wrong, I'd take the job if given the opportunity. I'm pretty sure the fans wouldn't like me within the first 24 hours when I put Dalvin Cook, Kirk Cousins, Harrison Smith and Adam Thielen on the trading block in what I would call "an attempt to change the culture."

Obviously our draft pick scenario is not going to dissuade the next candidate. It is, however, my greatest source of aggravation with Spielman. The incessant trading down to the late rounds. Spielman would cite Bill Belichick as another exec who would trade down. What he never grasped was that Belichick had players in mind or would use those extra picks to trade back up for specific players. Spielman just piled up late round picks and waited to see what fell to those spots.

The other problem is that he put in cap hell. People like to bitch about Cousins contract, but the truth is that there are several overpriced and underperformed contracts on the Vikings.

Paul Allen and Zimmer own a race horse together. I listen to him now and then, and it's been impossible for PA to be objective about Zimmer. The excuses he makes for Zimmer are nauseating.

We can do better.

Trade Hunter and Cousins to Cleveland for #13, and next year's 1st.

Sell 12 or 13 low with the main objective flipping it to a 2023 1st. Add whatever else you can to this year. Maybe that big 4th we're missing!

That draft stock is enough to go up and get the 2023 #1 pick.

Hear there's 2 top ones.

Brad H's initial statement to the media upon being hired as the General Manager of the Minnesota Vikings.

I am grateful and excited about the opportunity. I want all of the fans to know that the Minnesota Vikings will be holding a Lombardi Trophy within the first five years of my service.

Having said that, we are going to be making some major culture changes within the organization. No longer will we be employing players that beat their kid with a stick, run out of bounds when we are trying to run out the clock while leading an NFC Championship game or put their own political agenda above the agenda to win as a team. We won't be employing coaches who give up 117 points during the final two minutes of halves or take a knee with 37 seconds left in a tied NFC title game.

Training camp starts in late July. Everyone planning to play for the fall of 2022 needs to be vaccinated before showing up. If not, best of luck finding a new home.

Our first order of business is that we are putting Dalvin Cook, Kirk Cousins, Harrison Smith and Adam Thielen on the trading block. Any interested parties should call me.

Ready, GO!

Day 2 Press Release:

In looking at our draft situation, we are willing to part ways with the five slobs we will be drafting in the fifth through seventh rounds for one semi-slob in the fourth round. Any interested parties, call me. In fact, that will be a running theme during my time in Minnesota, so keep me on speed dial. Our goal here is to never draft a player after the fourth round.

Ready, GO!

Day 3 Press Release:

In an attempt to make for a better game day experience, we will be firing the sound guy at the stadium who continuously plays that ridiculous horn sound during the games. We will be hiring back the old Viking guy (if he's still alive) and adding a Viking woman to stand next to him. In addition, we will also be spending a lot less money on cloth for the cheerleader uniforms, with tramp stamps and piercings being encouraged.

Ready, GO!

I was ready to see a house cleaning...

New eyes, no personal ties...

my biggest problem with Spielman was keeping players too long, He was usually on the one year too late, versus one year too early wagon.

didnt like the Cook extension (based on paying too much for running back), hated the smith extension, did not like the Barr signing, KC extension

I was ok with going after kirk, but the extension was dumb. lots of 'easy' cap relief available, although some fans wont like seeing the names go

I cant wait to see what the next step looks like.

Best offseason in a LONG time

SKOL!
