So the Vikings could be a surprise team that is interested in Watson:

https://share.newsbreak.com/nodxykgg

i think that kwesi and brzezinski started playing with the math and realized that we're a lot closer to pulling this off than they thought....

Nonsense. We are in serious cap doodoo this year.

Meeting the cap won't be that hard but adding subtracting players will be a giant task if we do it the right way.

Next year we're 60M under the projected cap but that's with like 3.67 players on the roster.

An no, we are not interested in Watson. Period.

No new regime is going to stake their franchise on a guy still being raked through the mud of civil trials, nfl repercussions and social backlashing.

Viking Saint Indy Carolina fans are the only humans on the planet that are completely insensitive to the dude's accusations. I hope a giant defense team conspiracy is revealed, no woman was abused and Watson is completely exonerated ... but proof is still a ways away, if at all.

.
spotrac has a 'cap manager' function on their site...i went there and traded cousins for nothing in return, i traded hunter for nothing in return, cut ham, and then cut pierce....

i ended up with +$42mm in cap space....

we redu watson's contract and get him down to $20mm/2022 and we've still got +$22mm...pick up a center, guard, and CB in free agency and we're set on low first-year deals....

draft for need in 2022...and remember, i traded cousins and hunter for nothing - we can get something for them....

i don't see it as impossible, or even improbable, or problematic....

just do it....
.

Well then, you should forward the sportrac link to vikings.com right now ... ATTENTION: Kwesi

Shoot ... forget that who needs Kwesi with sportrac cap manager ... just address it ATTENTION: To whom it may concern

Let's solve this baby right now ...

NOT!

Not great marks for the new regime.

No moves.
Wanted to get into bed with Cousins long term.
Checked into Watson.

All speculation at this point.

nameless one. I think he gets traded. too much money involved if he wont redo contract.

Watson, no, no, no.

Time to rebuild with draft.

And getting out of over inflated contracts. Im with a down year to make that happen

Is DeShaun Watson better than Brett Favre, in skill and leadership, when Brett was here in 2009-2010?

I doubt it.

What part of too much cap money tied to one player, are you missing?

Does it have less impact if we swap Watson foe Cousins?

I give up…

I hope Watson goes elsewhere..

That is all..

You do understand that the grand jury 'declined to indict on criminal charges' ... which is a lack of substantive evidence ... NOT 'he did nothing inappropriate and is absolved of any wrongdoing.'

He may be innocent of all accusations by 22 different women ... from a legal standpoint he is innocent until proven otherwise ... but how do you prove someone has acted inappropriately [to a legal standard]? Very hard.

The civil cases are moving forward and the NFL is still going to make their own determination ...

He's not out of the woods by any measure.

And, if you do sign him and another accusation comes out because, you know 22 accusers is a lot, you will have some serious 'esplainin' to do.

Why do we always have to take the route most likely to bite us in the ass?

Does the “cap managing function” tell how future seasons are affected?

I’m pretty sure reworking a ton of contracts has serious ramifications down the road - unless you convince players to willingly give up significant money.

It’s not a “Get out cap he’ll free” card.

Watson fumbled 30 times in his four playing years. Thought that was a lot but it's not. Mahommes (26), Cousins (40), Allen (39), Rodgers (17).

I seriously doubt Watson will be a Viking. Like 0% chance. We don't have "luxury" picks. We don't have cap space.

But we DO have bloated contracts.

Our cap situation is going to keep us from doing much. Probably get akeem hicks and that’s about it. All the quick-fix scenarios that have been tossed out have devastating consequences down the road.

I’d hate giving up the picks but Watson is better than cousins by orders of magnitude. His cap hits for the next four years are all in the 30’s. I’d force myself to live with the creepy massage stuff. Peyton Manning shoved his junk pile in a female trainer’s face - once - that we know of. Yes that is rationalizing. Sue me.

I wouldn't give ANY qb $30-50+ mil unless that QB had won me a Super Bowl. Did you win a Super Bowl on your rookie deal? Yes? Great! Here's your hugenormous contract. F it let's just run victory laps and love life. No? Good luck. Next!

for sure, it's hard to make an argument for watson considering what he's accused of and the amount of women involved...that said, everyone deserves a second chance and I'll put my trust, and faith, in kwesi and o'connell - they'll do the due diligence, and if they think he's grown from the experience and a better person today, then I'll go with that....

watson is only 26 years old - his existing deal can be extended, and reworked, and for many years conceivably...i think kwesi can manage the cap to keep us competitive with watson on the team....

if the opportunity is there, we have to explore it - how many times does a team get a chance at a top five quarterback?....

@AdamSchefter
Vikings gave Kirk Cousins a one-year, fully-guaranteed $35 million extension, per source. He will make $40 million this year and $30 million next. Deal has two voidable years in it to lower his cap number this year to $31.25M.

$50M of deal will be paid by this time nextyear
