Irv Smith suffered a thumb injury yesterday, and had surgery today, per Kevin O'Connell. Seems to expect Smith back in time for the opener. Kene Nwangwu is day to day

I’m beginning to wonder if we will ever see Irv at full strength and healthy....

I wonder if he's related to Raonall Smith?

And/or Robert Smith (at least the early version).

A move for center will take my excitement for the season way up.

It's weird that center is going to dictate my expectations so much

I honestly feel Bradbury could cost us 4 games

Four games and then ultimately our playoff game (if we get one).

Agreed.

It's probably overstating....can one position in the ultimate team sport cause such a swing? Besides QB

I would say usually not, but Bradbury is so horrifically bad that he might

Dalvin Cook was just escorted off the field during individual drills. His left hand was being held gingerly by a trainer walking alongside.

Dalvin Cook, who’d left with a member of the medical staff earlier in practice, is back in action now.

I'm tickled purple that we have a player on both sides gunning to be the best in the league. Hunter and JJ.

We're gonna see 25 sacks in a season. Pushing 2100 rec yards. I want those pushing those marks wearing purple.

Even though it's discounted some bc # of games it's still fun for me. Super fun when I dream both those guys are chasing, us winning a ton of games and it not being clear if they're league MVP with Cook and Cousins getting consideration.

Yeah...I'm that far gone.

Center is kind of like a skill position. They make all the line calls and keep the qb safe and sound in the pocket. Our guy can make the calls, but he’s really bad at the other parts of his position.

His run blocking is really good unless you need a yard and everyone knows it. He's also good in the screen game. He just can't anchor.

I’m hoping we kinda ditch the “run first”, crap.

Establishing the run game is so last century..

Tretter is a strong run-blocker and elite in pass protection. He has had to have his workload managed in practices but he has played 100 percent of the offensive snaps in 16 games for each of the last six seasons.

This label of Tretter being a wounded duck because of limited practices?

The guy shows up when it counts on Sundays.

I was excited when the Vikings took Irv Smith in the draft but that excitement is quickly disappearing. If he doesn't come back very early in the regular season and/or doesn't make it through the season it will be time to move on. Need a weapon at TE.

We have 9 million left....maybe the plan is to wait as long as possible on Tretter and not put him thru TC (and wait and see a couple weeks of TC on Bradbury).

Why risk waiting and him signing elsewhere? I'd think just telling him that he'll have a seriously reduced workload in camp would be more prudent.

It'll be interesting to see how much the Cowboys signed Anthony Barr for.

Not thinking much. Most of what I'm reading has them liking the move.

When they see him move away from the run action and hesitate to engage they might not like it so much. I predict this will be his last year.

Well, Barr's signing elsewhere should be a figurative end to the Zimmer era... should being the operative word.

Isn't there some stipulation that a vet's contract is fully guaranteed if he is on the roster week 1?
But if you sign a vet after week one it's not... giving you more flexibility?

Seems to me Vikes love to gamble and try to sign vets after week in situations like this.

Quarterback, Kevin Hogan worked out for the Vikings on Thursday, evidence the team wants a bit more depth. That should strike folks as odd because the Vikings released Nate Stanley in July. Therefore, the Hogan tryout — especially if the Vikings sign him — should be an indicator that the coaching staff isn’t thrilled with Kellen Mond and Sean Mannion...vikingsterritory, paraphrased

from the same, also paraphrased....

Minnesota probably views Suh as a late-summer addition, typically more affordable than March or April. Conversely, Suh is about his money and still feels his earning power is paramount.

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has $8.7 million in cap space. Suh likely wants most of it. Adofo-Mensah isn’t keen on the whole piggy bank dwindling to zero.

We shall see if they meet in the middle. Otherwise, Suh will probably sign with the Cleveland Browns or Las Vegas Raiders.
