hockey trivia question. Who did team USA beat to win the gold medal at the 1980 Olympics? I'm guessing most of you will know. Don't cheat and Google it.

I knew.

Thoughts on Gigi Marvin as a broadcaster?

She’s gotten better, but still stumbles around a bit.

Much better, in fact. I love that they are giving her a chance. My only complaint, earlier, was that she was the female Wes Walz. Extremely knowledgeable but super rigid. I assumed it was nerves which would be totally normal. She is much better lately. I dig it. She’s not Carter, who I think is great but she’s doing really well.

Can't she practice in the minors or something? She's not ready, agree has improved some from the beginning.

I think Gigi is doing fine considering she is still fairly new to the job and it takes time. She is getting better with the experience and certainly has the knowledge to become a good analyst.

As for the Wild......
Time for a shake up after last night's performance against a team we should have easily handled. I didn't see much of the game, but from the recaps I read this morning, it sounds like a good hard practice is in order for this team. And time to get Pitlick out of the press box and on the ice. Plenty of passengers last night, so take your pick on who sits.......

A bad trend is developing of getting badly outshot every game. Not to cast aspersions on one of our best players, but this slide started when Spurgeon returned to the lineup.

We were just flat out...flat. We were traffic cones in the first and somehow got out with a 1-0 lead. We started the 2nd better and actually got burned by a Talbot mistake behind the net. Their tie goal in the 3rd you could see coming about a minute before it happened. We made a bad TO and it was a total scramble drill after until it finally went in.

Another disturbing trend is that our skill guys are trying to be too cute all the time. It's mainly Fiala and KK. Instead of the easy non-highlight real play the go for the "oh my" play and it's not working.

Another game (today’s) postponed by the Pandemic.
Why can’t they just stick with Carter?
Is he not always available or something?
Agree on Pitlik ST, guess who I choose to sit? Ha!
Also agree with Lynn, Dumba needs to sharpen skates for a while.
Get Addy out there.
Prolly hurt Dumba’s trade value, but whatever.

I hate that Bettman and company are postponing our games now. They damn well better plan on making them up when they skip the Olympics due to the pandemic!
We are already booked in March and April with games every other day and about 6 sets of back to backs, so there certainly isn't any time to play make up games then.

This was the day we were going to be in Des Moines to watch the Iowa Wild, but the game was rescheduled because, once again, the OTHER team had covid issues. Dang. I was really looking forward to it.

The reschedule date is a Wednesday in January, so hopefully we'll be able to get there.

I don't know who was worse between Talbot and the refs tonight.

Tough game to watch. I agree that Talbot wasn’t Talbot tonight, and it took the entire first period for our guys to get their legs under them. Bad timing to have had those games canceled. Now we have another long break until the next game. Dang.

Yup, Talbot was off his game last night for sure, but the refs were in typical NHL form.........they are always bad.
It's going to hurt if Ekker is out for very long. From accounts I have read so far all they are saying is he left the stadium with his arm in a sling, so that isn't a good sign.
They had such a good vibe going early on and now they just can't seem to find it and get going. Good thing it's a long season, I'd rather see them have a losing streak now when there is time to right the ship than going into the playoffs.

Talbot was beyond brutal. The goal tending actually improved when we pulled the goalie.

The Eriksson Ek injury looked bad. That whole exchange starting with the Dallas pp and ending with Ek's injury was exhibit A for horseshit officiating. Looks like the league is going to shut down after today's games due to the covid outbreak around the league. Hopefully he can heal in that time. Otherwise Rossi is averaging a point a game down in Iowa. Maybe he has earned a look.

I would love to see Rossi get a look, but I really doubt BG is going to bring him up any time soon. With our cap situation Rossi will get to play his 9 games at some point and that will be it. We need to let his contract slide another year more than we need his help this season. Maybe this will be a chance for Pitlick to see more ice time since he is capable of playing center as well as wing. This break is just what we needed with the guys we have out right now. Evason needs to get some good PP practice time in before we come back as well.

Do any of the rest of you watch those "Becoming Wild" shows? I really like getting a little behind-the-scenes look at the players and often their families. When you kind of get to know a player a bit better, it changes the way you cheer for him. I'm really glad they do those shows.

The 9 game scenario only applies if the player is still with his junior team. Rossi is already under contract and playing in the AHL.

For Rossi, that strategy makes even more sense. He has three years left on his entry-level deal, and if he plays nine or fewer games in the NHL this season, that contract will slide over to next season. Meaning, Rossi could have the first of his three-year deal beginning in 2022-23, which would see him earning less than a million per season for all three years that the Wild face a ton of dead cap.

I found this on a quick google and have heard the same thing from Russo. I believe that is the case due to him being young enough to return to juniors even though he has signed an NHL contract. Not positive on that though.....

More I found on the subject:
What is a slide candidate?
If a player who is signed to an entry-level contract and is 18 or 19 years of age (as of September 15 of the signing year), does not play in a minimum of 10 NHL games (including both regular season and playoffs; AHL games do not count), their contract is considered to 'slide', or extend, by one year.

I really don't think that will be a factor in any decision. Guerin wants to win. He will bring up Rossi if he thinks Marco is the best option. The bigger issue where Rossi is concerned is where the opening in the lineup is. Guerin and Evason have both said they don't want Rossi up here to play on the 4th line. In this case there is an opening on the top three lines. It will really come down to whether Guerin thinks he is ready. If it really becomes an issue, they can send Rossi down before 9 games if he isn't cutting it.

Damn! The prognosis on JEE's "upper body injury" is that he will be out for weeks. Still pisses me off that there was no penalty call on that play.
