ORIGINAL: stfrank I would love to see Rossi get a look, but I really doubt BG is going to bring him up any time soon. With our cap situation Rossi will get to play his 9 games at some point and that will be it. We need to let his contract slide another year more than we need his help this season. Maybe this will be a chance for Pitlick to see more ice time since he is capable of playing center as well as wing. This break is just what we needed with the guys we have out right now. Evason needs to get some good PP practice time in before we come back as well. The 9 game scenario only applies if the player is still with his junior team. Rossi is already under contract and playing in the AHL. For Rossi, that strategy makes even more sense. He has three years left on his entry-level deal, and if he plays nine or fewer games in the NHL this season, that contract will slide over to next season. Meaning, Rossi could have the first of his three-year deal beginning in 2022-23, which would see him earning less than a million per season for all three years that the Wild face a ton of dead cap. I found this on a quick google and have heard the same thing from Russo. I believe that is the case due to him being young enough to return to juniors even though he has signed an NHL contract. Not positive on that though..... More I found on the subject: What is a slide candidate? If a player who is signed to an entry-level contract and is 18 or 19 years of age (as of September 15 of the signing year), does not play in a minimum of 10 NHL games (including both regular season and playoffs; AHL games do not count), their contract is considered to 'slide', or extend, by one year. I really don't think that will be a factor in any decision. Guerin wants to win. He will bring up Rossi if he thinks Marco is the best option. The bigger issue where Rossi is concerned is where the opening in the lineup is. Guerin and Evason have both said they don't want Rossi up here to play on the 4th line. In this case there is an opening on the top three lines. It will really come down to whether Guerin thinks he is ready. If it really becomes an issue, they can send Rossi down before 9 games if he isn't cutting it.
