Two areas which usually make the difference when 2 teams are evenly matched. Turnovers and penalties. Vikings have done well in both. Getting Darisaw back will be huge.

I know I'm nit piking here, but 2 plays that annoyed me yesterday. The first was after the Smith pick. Just get what you can on the return. All that running around only lost yds for him. I know Joseph made the FG, but it could have been a 45 yd or less. The other was Theilen catching the ball at the 10. If he turns and goes straight up the field he probably gets to the 5. Instead he runs backwards and gets tackled at the 15. They scored on that drive to, but those things are correctable.

The Thielen run-after-the-catch was baffling. It was right in front of us in the West endzone. Fans were all looking at each other with bewildered looks like "WTF just happened there?"

If you're in the west endzone is the Viking sideline on your left or right?

- Im directionally challenged and only know east from west if I know where the Mississippi is at

Smith still thinks he is 22 years old... lol... he doesn't have the wheels to try that showtime stuff anymore...

On my right.

Ok. The last two Cowboy games we were on the opp end 10 rows up straight behind the goal post on the Viking side - my boy and I were with relatives, one Lion fan and the rest Cowboys

Kind of hope the Cowboys aren't on the home schedule next year. It gets a little expensive. Actually, the last trip to Dallas with the Airbb, flight and game tickets it was a little high as well; but it was more fun for sure

My $0.02:

Always tough to get a win in the NFL. I'll take it!

The OK played pretty well against a good defensive front.

Would have like to see better running game in the second half.

Would have liked to see more pressure from the DL.

Solid game from STeams.

Cousins was clearly off. The throw to Hock was brutal.

He played tough though. Took some big hits. That run was great. Extended a TD drive.

This defense is just maddening. Second week in a row that a mediocre QB put up over 350 yards on us. Fortunately for the Vikings, White was terrible in the red zone. Once again, they made just enough plays to preserve the win. It kills me how much better it could have looked if they didn't give up things like...

-We score a 4th quarter TD to go up by 12. Jets first play from scrimmage...48 yard run to the Vikings 27.
-We give up a 31 yard completion on 4th and 10 from the Jets 47.

White only completed 53% of his passes, yet was able to pile up 360 yards because the Vikings defense continuously let him off the hook with big plays.

If you watch the 49ers and Cowboys play defense, you realize how important a great front seven means. Both of those teams still blitz even though they both have good front four players. Which is why I don't understand why we don't. We give up huge chunk plays without blitzing.

They have secondary players who play faster and are simply better.

You would think if the secondary is awful a blitz would mean lest time they need to cover. I guess the flip side is no help will be available but watching them just give up all the time sure is maddening.

vikings' defense was situationally outstanding:

3/16 3rd down, 2/5 on 4th down
1/6 red zone
83 plays total and 4 chunk plays = 170 yds
other 79 plays averaged 4yds/play

four 60-yard field goals have been kicked against the vikings this season - in the NFL, thirty 60-yard field goals have been kicked 'all time' = 13.3% of all 60-yarders ever kicked have been kicked against the vikings this season....

If you're giving up the big play anyway you might as well risk it with the pressure.

I'm always pro pressure. I think overall our D is slow which is why we give up so many yards and so many big plays.

Maybe some dime with Metellus in secondary

I think this is great, 10-2 Vikes underdogs to 5-7 Lions.

Eric Thompson
@eric_j_thompson

I'd complain about the Vikings currently being 1-point underdogs at Detroit next week, but I also remember what happened the last time we wondered why the Vikings were 1-point underdogs

- Actually, I'm a fan of the Lions this year and 4-1 the last 5 games is impressive. But still ;)

- On Aug 8 I bet $1 on the Lions and Jets making the playoffs paying off $40 ... came close

Randy Moss on Eli and Payton version of Monday Night Football

He talked about his battles with Revis but the one cb I saw neutralize Randy was Darrell Green in his last or second to last year.

Green got away with big time mugging that game

Vikings should blitz more, that is what Vic Fangio would do if he were the Vikings DC.

After White took a big hit on 3rd down and 10, got up the next play and got the 1st down, it felt a little like the Arizona game many years ago, that knocked the Vikings out of being a playoff participant.

For a second, I thought White was going to get a TD.

I think it was McCown for Arizona, gets sacked 3 straight plays, then throws the game winning TD on 4th down.

The Lions will be playing like their lives depend on it, they are done if they lose. They can go 10-7 and make the playoffs.

And Detroit has played well lately.

And the Vikings barely beat them in Minnesota, the crowd noise made a lot of difference.

The Vikings can afford to lose this one, they probably aren't catching the Eagles for the #1 seed. And it might be hard to fear or respect Detroit to the point where the Vikings will prepare hard. At least Detroit is coming off of a solid win, so maybe ....

There's lots of room for the Eagles to lose a couple more games. I don't want a pussy foot around with this it's right here in front of us I want us to grab it.

Also the Eagles have one of the hardest schedules remaining; we have one of the easiest....still have to win them.
