According to Giants center Nick Gates, Minnesota’s home crowd was meh and unintimidating from a loudness perspective.

When asked about the Vikings crowd noise, Gates told ESPN last weekend, “Surprised. Actually, I thought it would be a lot louder. I thought especially when our offense is out there they would be a lot louder out there. But you know, they’re Midwest people.“

The Vikings home crowd isn’t known for quietness, although some games are louder than others. Every now and then, a home game for the Vikings will be uncharacteristically quieter than usual, but that generally involves the Vikings struggling out of the gate.

OK, speaking as someone who was there that day, let's point out that it was Christmas Eve Day, there was a massive blizzard that was still on it's tail-end that morning, and it was still 'fairly' loud in there. It was also just above zero degrees outside and folks were just happy to warm up a little.

A gather 'round the fireplace coziness. Guess folks in outdoor stadiums during the winter can't be bothered with that.

Want to know a fun fact about outdoor stadiums? In the ten coldest home games they've played in, the Vikings have a losing record. Another fun fact? It's the same for the Packers. The idea of a cold-weather outdoor home field advantage is a myth. I imagine it's a myth that came from fans as some type of coping mechanism to justify how miserable the game experience was - freezing their asses off.

What is the losing record of the 10 coldest? 4-6... 3-7?

Agree the weather outdoors puts a damper on the cheering when it is brutally cold. But that's no excuse for the indoor crowd.

There's no tailgating except for two tiny lots that hold about 200 cars total. Cars traveling to the stadium that day had to deal with drifted over roads (even the major highways like 212 which we come in from), roads with just one lane open, crashes and vehicles in the ditch, and insane traffic near the stadium. The wind chill was -20 to -30. Ah shucksy-darns it didn't get loud enough as people were still preparing to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones later that night? Take the roof off. That should help.

The crowd can't get past the bad journey to the stadium? I'd have thought being there for entertainment would have made them happy. Jubilant if you will. At an important game to boot!

And the Christmas eve thing later caused people not to cheer as much? Poor planning? Grinches?

Sounds like your very personal take

The only player who has shown he is affected by the crowd in Minnesota is Kirk Cousins

When your QB is covering his helmet earholes at home, he is either kinda deaf or the crowd is kinda stupid.

They weren’t wasted because of no pregame hanging out and later in the day obligations. Read between the lines a little bit.

You sure have the read on 70,000+ people down pat. And give them little credit.

Go forth 'wasted' ones and cheer!

I just watched the Bears game again, I really think Nailor is going to be a very good receiver. It will be interesting to see if he can master the route tree, but the kid has good hands, length and doesn't shy away from contact. If AT is finished after this year, I believe he is the guy that gets elevated, not Reagor.

I having been watching the talking heads on ESPN and reading the papers and I am sick and tired of hearing about the Giants winning. What the hell?! We are playing at home and beat them before. I am ready for a Vikings blowout on Sunday and get the "experts" to shut their mouths. SKOL!!!!!!

I'm thinking that kwesi guaranteed him his 10.5 sack bonus of $750k if he agreed to rest the final regular season game...he ended the season with 10....

word is we're going to play a lot of multiple tight-end sets with hockenson and smith...ny struggles covering tight-ends...this is irv's showcase for his next deal....

Fun fact of the day that I just read: The Vikings' record this year in games played West of Minneapolis is 0-0.

We need to give Nailor some reps. Limit Thielen's snap count and maybe he can get open more.

Game could go either way but both teams have a negative point differential and it is odd why so many are going out of their way to pick the 9 win team as opposed to the 13 win team that is playing at home.

He looked really good with Mullens....be nice if KC had that same connection with him.

KC did throw Nailor's first TD.

Do you know who threw his first catch?

defensive coordinator Ed Donatell believes it’s the defense’s time to shine.

What ... to make an nfl roster next year? It doesn't matter if Smith plays or not.

The only thing that matters is if Cousins can get his head out of his ass between the first drive of the game and the last few.

On defense, if we can get a few turnovers while getting pushed around.

Otherwise, even though playoff games are different, we'll simply tempt fate one more time and see how that goes.
