ORIGINAL: David F. Just looked up Hunter's contract. Gross. 5 years and $72 million which wasn't even stellar at the time of signing. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/minnesota-vikings/danielle-hunter-16812/ He currently ranks 21st in average contract value per year. This is an embarrassment. The cherry on top is that (of course) he has $11.2 million in void years. The guy has done nothing but produce for us. Give him a new deal or trade him. a third-round pick, hunter received a signing bonus and signed a new deal after his third year - $17.4mm...also, hunter always received his money up front - never had to wait to get paid.... danielle hunter has always been a gentleman about his financial dealings with the vikings - he read the language and signed the contract.... That's an oversimplification. We all know that teams will cut a player for a financial advantage. Why is no one quoting old-fashioned ethics to the teams at each cut? You put yer signature on that there piece of paper and yer word is yer bond. When it was Adam Thielen they had no problem re-doing his contract to an amount that more closely matched his value. to the best of my knowledge, the vikings have followed their signed contractual agreements with their players...you're beef sounds like you're real issue is with the cba...you should be bitching to the NFL players union - they designed these deals.... regarding thielen's extensions, he didn't sit out two consecutive years with different injuries...they had to see what hunter had left in his body - it was the responsible thing to do - if you were paying danielle you'd probably see it differently.... i'd like to see the vikings give him an extension, and they most likely will.... See that's the thing - I do pay Danielle. You think the owners dig money out of their musty offshore accounts to pay these players? No. They take my season ticket money and my SBL money and pay them with that. you misunderstand me, David F.... I don't side with the owners, or the players - I side with the contract...and there's something that tells me that to danielle hunter, honoring a contract that he had agreed to and signed his name, is more important than a few million dollars - especially when there is much more to be made.... danielle hunter has already made over $74.8mm playing football, and you would advise him to toss away his honor, something nobody can take from him - and something he could never change....something that could haunt him for the rest of his life.... i'm certain that won't happen, they'll work out an extension, and all will be happy.... So are you against players renegotiating to take less money because that's not honoring the contract as well? Also, I bet I can count on zero hands the number of players that were "haunted" by asking for, and getting, more money because they outperformed their existing contract. not necessarily, each deal is unique....i honestly believe that hunter is not a typical 'player', and that honor really means something to him...the reason this years deal looks so bad is because the team has already paid almost all of the contract up front - this is what happens when teams are moving money around to create cap space.... there are a lot of people that think the time to trade hunter is now....we keep z'smith on a shorter deal - with jefferson and darisaw deals in the wings, and no legitimate quarterback to take us to the promised land we could be taking a couple of seasons off...and we might get a 2nd rounder for hunter, or hunter & cook combo, somewhere.... also, I don't do a jefferson deal until after next season...even if he holds out, it might be better for all to give him his monster deal next year - again, to save cap space....and darisaw the same....
