Is Beasley any good? I mean he appears to be a good 3-point shooter. Does he play defense? Understand the game? Basically, would he be a legit starter for most teams or a role player (I surmise the latter)? I think he's also the gun-waving psycho.

Any summary of Vanderbilt? I'm guessing strict role player.

Beasley: Always moving off the ball. He’s a terrific assist receptacle. He has no handle or ability to get his own shot, but he’s great at finding open areas for catch and shoot opportunities.

He’s volatile, but he’s high volume at a good %. He’s like a 9 attempts per game and will shoot in the high 30s.

He rebounds well for a guard because he’s active.

He’s a horrible defender, but not for lack of effort. He tries, but he’s just really bad at it. Poor awareness and instincts on that side.

Vandy is great.

Pure energy and hustle. He defends more like a wing than a big as he’s not a shotblocker and he can get easily pushed around by bigger guys. Very good help defender. Causes havoc with steals and deflections.

He’s got a decent handle and some passing chips/vision. Will turn it over too much.

He’s not an offensive player. And teams will leave him alone letting them double other guys. Utah took
Him out of the starting lineup because he can kill spacing.

Very good rebounder. Doesn’t really box out, but he rebounds outside of his zone really well. Kind of a “Garnett lite” on the glass.

He does wear down if he plays too much. Last year he was much less effective the 2nd half of the season. Ideally he’s no more than a 20 MPG player.

He reminds me a lot Jerome “JYD” Williams and Chris “Birdman” Anderson.

Vanderbilt grew on me a lot in his time here. He's a disruptive force on defense and around the boards. Provides spark. He's a run stopper. Agree with all above though, regarding his limitations. Play him situationally.

Great win on the road. Almost gave it away but some terrific defense in the last 15 seconds!
Ant with 32.

Irving played out of his mind in the 4th quarter, accompanied by a bit of a Wolves breakdown.

But that last possession. Watching Ant and McDaniels hound Doncic and Irving. That was a season highlight. They didn’t even get a shot off. In 15 seconds.

This is good stuff. Apparently Finch asked the players what they wanted to do in the last possession.

quote:

DALLAS – In the Timberwolves huddle with 14.8 seconds left and the Wolves up three, coach Chris Finch asked his team a question — do you want to foul the Mavericks or play out the final possession?

Anthony Edwards spoke up: Play it out.

The Wolves had watched a 26-point third-quarter lead shrink all the way down to that margin thanks to Luka Doncic (33 points) and Kyrie Irving, with Irving scoring 26 of his 36 in a furious fourth-quarter rally. Finch trusted his players, and it resulted in a pulse-raising, exhilarating 124-121 Wolves victory.

Dallas never got off a shot. Jaden McDaniels locked up Doncic and Edwards took care of Irving in one of the best defensive sequences of the Wolves' season, given the situation and caliber of players they had to stop.

"They got two iso players. We got two iso defenders," Edwards said. "So, I mean, however they want to do it, let's do it."

"They was saying they wanted to foul. I was just like, 'Nah, man, let's play.' Let's guard them. Make them make a three."

Of course Edwards spoke up, and of course wanted to play it out. I think it was the right choice too although either would be defensible.

It was an amazing final sequence.

To have both Luka and Irving handle the ball and be completely unable to get off any kind of shot for 15 seconds is ridiculous.

That should be a decision made by the head coach, not the players.

I have no problem with occasionally getting players' input. This is the NBA, not junior high. Making the players feel empowered is a good thing. Pick your spots though. In this situation I think you could make a case for either choice. I agree with what they decided but it's not a black and white thing.

Plus, Finch probably knew they were going to say play it out. Most players would. So use it as a motivating factor. Okay, you want to play it out, you better bust your butt out there.

Genius coaching.

Looks like the Wolves dodged a bullet by cutting Forbes.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/35666962/nba-bryn-forbes-arrested-family-violence-charge

SAN ANTONIO -- Bryn Forbes, an NBA free agent who has played for four teams over seven seasons, was arrested early Wednesday on a family violence charge in San Antonio, police records show.

Forbes, who was released last week by the Minnesota Timberwolves, was arrested on suspicion of assault with bodily injury, a misdemeanor, after a verbal argument with a female companion turned physical, according to police records.

Forbes was arrested at 5 a.m. Wednesday at a residence in north-central San Antonio. He was taken to the Bexar County Jail, where bail had not been set.

Jail records don't list a lawyer who can speak on Forbes' behalf.

According to a police report, Forbes had an argument with a woman he is dating. Forbes struck the woman several times after the couple arrived home, according to the report. The San Antonio Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services responded to assist the woman.

Jon K with an outstanding article on Ant:

The making of an NBA All-Star: Anthony Edwards’ step-by-step path to Salt Lake City

Oct. 24: Spurs 115, Timberwolves 106
On the first back-to-back of the season for the Timberwolves, Edwards delivered a real clunker: nine points on 3-for-15 shooting, including 1-for-8 from 3-point range in an ugly loss to a team headed to the lottery this season.

Afterward, Edwards owned it. He said Wolves player development coach Chris Hines told him that he had a reputation around the league for not showing up on the second night of a back-to-back.

“It’s just normal for me to be bad on back-to-backs throughout my three years I’ve been in the league,” Edwards said. “Every time I have a back-to-back, I do bad in the second game. I gotta figure out whatever that strategy is. I’ve gotta get that together.”

The self-awareness is a hallmark of Edwards’ game. When he is asked about his shortcomings, he doesn’t run from it. He acknowledges it and usually responds with a self-assured, “I’ll figure it out.”

He appears to have figured this one out. Since that stinker against San Antonio, he has averaged 27.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists while making 48.3 percent of his field goals and 43.1 percent of his 3s in the nine games he’s played on the second night of a back-to-back. Most importantly, the Wolves are 6-3 in those games
