Sixers laid waste to us.

I thought we got Gobert so we can match up better on bigger C's like Embiid?

Gobert was...fine defensively.

When Embiid is making jumpers like last night, there isn't much you can do.

Embiid made 13 baskets. 4 were from 3, and 5 more were midrange jumpers. He was only 4/7 at the rim (he's over 80% on the season).

We actually missed KAT a lot last night. In their 10 head-to-head meetings, they've basically cancelled each other out.

Edwards did his part. The 15-2 run the Sixers went on to close the 1st half was the difference. I don't get to see many games so it was a real let down we weren't able to come back and make it a game.

Interesting post:

Mattsteg:

While KAT was healthy, the rest of the team hadn't figured out Rudy AT ALL plus D'lo was pretty much trying to play for himself and (I have a potty mouth)ing everything up. Plus Finch was experimenting rather than going to what we know will work.

So the data is mostly trash. But despite that:

The 2 best defensive lineups in the NBA (min 200 minutes played) so far this season:

R. Gobert - K. Anderson - D. Russell - A. Edwards - J. McDaniels (101.7)

R. Gobert - D. Russell - K. Towns - A. Edwards - J. McDaniels (104.2)

The KAT starting lineup was (NET) about equivalent to the 76ers starters when KAT went down. The Slomo one has been about as good as the 76ers starters overall. Given the shift in performance with Rudy (about 10pts/100 better with him post jan1 than rudy-only minutes before KAT's injury) it's very likely that the Wolves starters with KAT/Rudy could be about as good as the 76ers starters, and on top of that the wolves would be able to play an all-NBA caliber center all 48 minutes.

The main concern people had was KAT defending on the perimeter. There isn't the sample size to come to any conclusion, but the results are positive.

On offense KAT is probably best as a huge wing but also can be good enough in the post to make it tough for teams to try and downsize to force Rudy to the perimeter. So if all that works - in theory it enhances Rudy's playoff value.

There's a lot of "ifs" involved but it can be good. Not the trade I wanted, but the trade I got and I can see a path toward it succeeding.

My god, KAT is softer than Mauer ever was. Mauer was a catcher, and a great one at that.

DLo was on fire the last few minutes of last night's game.

Based on posts here, I'm thinking that's not a good thing as now he thinks he has carte blanche to play hero ball in LA. Then again, if LeBron ever returns he will slow things down and take late shots too.

He absolutely has games where he’s unstoppable.

He also has games where he’s unplayable.

Problem is he doesn’t know the difference…

Got it. Maybe the only potential saving grace is LeBron and Davis getting on his ass. But Davis doesn't strike me as someone who would do that.

Mark Rosen just said Anthony Edwards is the best player the Wolves have ever had. Preposterous!

Edwards just went down and out and in a lot of pain.

Replay shows what looked like a classic basketball sprain. Came down on somebody’s foot and turned it awkwardly. Been there done that twice on each ankle. Good news, if it is a sprain, likely no long-term impact. Bad news, if it’s a severe sprain, it could impact playoff availability, not to mention the ability to even make the playoffs.

Hopefully nothing torn or broken, but he was really hurting.

My wish has come true. We've traded Russell!
Have to give him credit for playing some of his best basketball(offensively) as of late but never liked his defense.
Look for my man Ant to step his game up even more!

And Nowell with his first start of the season looked like the best player on the floor all night. I have no idea what he's doing wrong in practice, but Finch has to be forced into putting him on the floor. He's legit. Good thing Rivers wasn't available, because he would have sucked up all those Nowell minutes.

I'd say the opposite. If anything Finch has given him too much time.

He's done one thing well all year. Get into the midrange and hit those shots.

His 3 has been broken all year. (And really for 3 of his 4 pro seasons)

He's a straight line, 1 speed driver that relies on broken defenses to get to the rim.

He's a turnover waiting to happen.

He makes Russell and Beasley look like almost competent defenders in comparison.

That said, he's definitely been miscast as a combo guard. He's a small SG and if he leans more into that, maybe he can have more games like last night. He's definitely played his best ball of the year when paired with McLaughlin. And Ant's improved playmaking ability really helped him out last night.

I still think he's likely a guy who doesn't crack a Playoff team's rotation and could make a great living playing in Europe.

So you prefer Rivers over him?

Turnover waiting to happen? Compared to who?

I'm sorry, I have a difficult time parsing the defensive liabilities between Nowell, Russell and Beasley.

I do agree that he wouldn't crack a playoff team rotation. In fact, he probably shouldn't be on a playoff team roster. We are not that good, but at least we have Rivers.

No, Rivers is worthless.

His minutes should stay with Alexander-Walker. He hasn’t been great, but he’s been helpful. Kid plays defense hard, has some playmaking chops and has been hitting 3s. He’ll probably never be a starter, but he’s potentially a valuable role player. And if we’re choosing who to bring back next year between NAW and Nowell, NAW is the easy choice for me.

In theory, I like the idea of a NAW type coming off the bench. Problem is he's not very good at much. 3 teams in 3 seasons, I think? He hasn't been a very efficient scorer. His 3 hasn't been good. He's a below average free throw shooter, but that doesn't matter much because he rarely gets there. I thought he'd be better. He's still young, maybe he improves.

Every time I watch Jones start when Morant is out, it makes me sad that we didn't hold on to him.

Are you trying to gather some buzz for the Twins? They were worse than the Twolves last year

The Jazz won't make the Play-In game. They'll start tanking harder down the stretch.

My guess, Towns is back for limited minutes tonight for the home crowd. But not Edwards. They have 3 days off after tonight before going west. Give Edwards another game off, then that will be a good rest for him.
