Carew was a great hitter and an average fielder. Arraez is a very good hitter with the chance to become great but is not even a good fielder. Carew was on some great teams with Killebrew and Oliva. But the early Carew teams had some great pitchers including Kaat, Perry and Blyleven. When Carew won the MVP in 1977, Blyleven was gone and the staff consisted of: Tom Burgmeier, Bill Butler, Carrithers, Dave Goltz, Jeff Holly, Jim Hughes, Dave Johnson, Tom Johnson, Mike Pazik, Pete Redfern, Ron Schueler, Gary Serum, Jim Shellenback, Paul Thormodsgard, Geoff Zahn Baseball is a game where pitching is still at the heart of the game. The argument that a starter pitches every 5th game and a position player is in every game: The pitcher throws every pitch when playing and the pitcher's team is fielding. The position player, unless the catcher, is not involved with every pitch. The batter gets to the plate 4 times a game.......not 9 times or every inning. An argument that a pitcher pitches only every 5th game is typically provided by people who know nothing about the game and most likely never played competitively. Like the movie the Natural: Roy Hobbs to Max Mercy, Did you ever play the game? No, no I didn't. But I think I make it more interesting because of my stories.
