Matt what is your thoughts on pulling Berrios in a Rock Head moment.

My surprise was the lefty warming up in the 2nd inning.

It was pre-planned by the Blue Jays. They wanted to use all their bullets.

Dumb Plan.

Agree

Dan Gladden was flabbergasted that they were pulling him. He was essentially dominating us. Called it OVERMANAGING the moment it happened. I was calling it pulling a Rocco myself...I can see I wasn't the only one thinking that.

And it backfired on the Blue Jays.

I like Gladden as the color man. Very good insight and isn't afraid to tell it like it is.

When he does the play by play, good luck knowing what is going on. A pop up could turn into a home run and he never tells the score.

Totally agree wish Provus would just call the whole game.

I drove the bus for the local football team last Friday night. I sit in the bus with my book, phone, food, etc. I can hear the announcer plain as day but I seldom have a feel for what's going on with the play/game. Some people have the hang of it, some don't

My wife will often listen to the opposing team play by play on mlb.com. The only way Provus is better is when Gladden isn't there, otherwise even when he is doing the play by play the two of them get chatting about everything other than the game. My fantasy is to have them graded by someone charting the game based solely on their play by play, with pay cuts for their errors, omissions or late updates.

They had a guest once, believe it was Johnny Bench, and he did play by play for a bit - chatting but interrupted the story to keep current on the game. Provus and Gladden said something like Bench might take their jobs. My wife and I both thought that would be an outstanding idea. We only listen to them when we are in the car. Sad that EVERY other team has better play by play radio announcers. (In my opinion, of course)

Johnny Bench was so drunk that time he was on the Twins radio broadcast.

Johnny Bench was and is an idiot. Maybe a great player but an idiot. Remember reading an SI story about Bench. It was his wedding night. Honeymoon in the motel.....he had his buddies over and they played poker all night long. New wife was ignored.

From Wikipedia

Bench has been married four times. Once hailed as "baseball's most-eligible bachelor," he shed that distinction before the 1975 season when he married Vickie Chesser, a toothpaste model who had dated Joe Namath. Four days after they met, Bench proposed, and they were married on February 21, 1975.[68][69] Quickly, the pair realized they were incompatible, especially after Bench suggested that his wife accept Hustler magazine's offer for her to pose nude for $25,000.[70][71] They broke up at the end of the season (Bench reportedly said to her, "Now I'm done with two things I hate: baseball and you"), divorcing after just 13 months. "I tried. I even hand-squeezed orange juice," Chesser told Phil Donahue in December 1975. "I don't think either of us had any idea what marriage was really like." After returning to Manhattan, Chesser said, "Johnny Bench is a great athlete, a mediocre everything else, and a true tragedy as a person."

I think he played ping-pong.

Biggio batted with men on base 3 time in the first games and didn't as much as advance one. I think the big spot was the 8th inning of the 1st game with Vlad at 2nd.

2nd game
1st inning:1st and 2nd 2out (SO)
3rd inning:1st and 2out (SO)
6th inning: Single (No one on and 1 out)
8th inning: No one and no outs

Biggio was epically bad in those two games.

The equivalent for the Twins would be batting Taylor 5th.

Pretty sure it was poker Matt. 1975, I was a senior in HS. How old were you in 1975 Matt?

CINCINNATI — On his wedding night, Johnny Bench played ping-pong with his best man, says his now divorce-bent bride, Vicki Chesser, who claims the Cincinnnati Reds' slugger has "no respect for any woman and probably for any man."

Sounds like Ober is starting Game 1. Interesting!

I like it.

Nothing fazes that kid.

I stand corrected. And thanks for the citation.
Still think in the SI story (or maybe Sport magazine story) that they said poker.
Whatever, Bench is a puke of a person.

The decision to switch to Ober is pretty logical. In three career starts against the Astros, Ryan has been pounded. Ober should be back to early season strength after being shut down for his late season fatigue. I think it was going to be a short hook no matter who started today.

Bummer. The boys showed some they had some fight back in them, but it wasn't enough.

We need Pablo and Sonny to win back to back. Then I assume it would be Ryan in game 4. If we get to game 5, it will Pablo Lopez on the mound.

No, Gardy would have turned 5-0 into 10-1.

Orioles have to be the least scary 100-win team in MLB history.

And there is MLB history! Corey Seager the first player ever to walk 5 times in a postseason game.

Didn't mean to set off a storm on this. I didn't know that about him, but sadly, not surprised when a sports figure is a jerk. My original point on play by play should now be: If a drunken lout is better at my job than me, I really need to rethink my career choice.

Great win. Lopez trade looks better all the time. Correa is just incredible in the post season. Duran is loving the big stage as well.
