I've been very impressed by Addison's combination of hands, route running and speed. He looks good. Speed seems to be his thing! ; )

Me too. But having him try to block on a screen was a big fail yesterday...

No doubt at all he should be #2 over Osborne,
but that was the 2nd huge fail blocking on a screen.

Hey KOC, you might try someone else to block on that, it's obviously not his thing.
(kinda like you and managing timeouts, getting the play in quickly, and dumb challenges)

Looking like we can't blame the Oline this week:
vikesinsider
@vikesinsider
·
29s
How the Vikings offensive linemen ranked among their respective positions in week 5 (
@PFF
):

Christian Darrisaw: 1st (of 67 tackles)
Garrett Bradbury: 2nd (of 32 centers)
Ezra Cleveland: 6th (of 67 guards)
Ed Ingram: 10th (of 67 guards)
Brian O'Neill: 31st (of 67 tackles)

Cleveland let a guy go by him early like he owed him a favor for a sack. I learned today that he was just supposed to chip him but Kirk called the slide to the wrong side so it wasn't even Cleveland's fault.

Glad (sort of) to hear that JJ; Ezra looked silly on that play, but it was Chris Jones...
I don't trust PFF Grades even a little.

Put Risner in for either Guard and I would wager we are instantly better in Pass Pro, especially sitting Ingram.

Our offense looks pretty good. We have a ton of pieces on offense.

I think 8/11 starters are pre KOM.

Defense has more his stamp on it so we have that going for us.

Yeah, that sucks. I'm just kind of building back into following again. We seem to show flashes, but then we sputter. I'm by no means an expert anymore.

I thought Brian Flores would be a real difference maker for our defense. I guess it could still materialize over the course of the offseason, draft, then next year.

Just some thoughts:

1) The defense is still nowhere good enough but at least they *look* more competitive than last year? I think almost all the stats back that up and they've played 3 pretty explosive offenses. Just very talent deficient (Kyle Hamilton or Jordan Davis would look pretty good right now)

2) PFF is not the gospel but through 5 games the Vikes OL is number 2 run pass blocking and number 1 run blocking??? I'm very very skeptical but even if they're off by 10 spots, that puts them well within average to good territory

3) Which means there is something systemically wrong here. I think it has to do with a) catastrophic turnovers, drops, misplays etc at the worst possible times (mostly fumbles) and b) Cousins being a statue. In my eye test, I thought he was much improved at pocket presence and poise last year compared to 2018-21. 2023 Cousins looks like he has regressed combined with aging 20 years.

4) Alexander Mattison needs to be a backup. Why you pick up Akers - who clearly has more juice - just to sit him while Mattison continues to bumble, drop, fumble - is beyond me.

5) Paying whatever it is we're paying to Hockenson and Oliver to do whatever it is they did yesterday is beyond depressing. Some of Hockenson's catches were tough but geez is it too much to ask for the highest paid TE in football to make ONE of them??

6) I haven't felt less optimistic since 2013. I have no idea what the plan is here. Hunter is gone after this year. I honestly am not sure about Jefferson re-signing at this pojnt, and not sure he would want to? This looks like a 2 year rebuild minimum to me. And I am not even close to confident they have the FO/coaching guys in place to do that.

7) That said, hit on a QB next year and things can change quickly. A lot to fill in around the edges but that's so much easier if you have the right QB in place.

I think he’s safe with a blocked 53 yarder and a 52 that hit the upright for his only misses on the year so far.

2013 was something else. High level of incompetence among the decision makers. More than any other year, I felt like they were treating the fanbase like we were idiots.

I have NEVER cheered against the Vikings, but that may change with the Chicago game.

This season is a failure, I can't see this team going anywhere, and the best thing for the long term would be to get a top QB, and losing out the rest of their games should give them a chance to do that.

Addison should be the guy you throw to and the better blocker Osborn blocking. That's on O'Connell. Maybe bring up Harry from the PS and have him block on those types of plays.

With JJ out for 4 games I guess we'll see what O'Connell is made of.

I think we're going to look like the little train engine that couldn't.

Two moves that should be made right away are trading away Jordan Hicks to Buffalo and Ezra Cleveland to a team wanting a Tackle.

Buffalo lost their MLB to a knee injury in England.

There are maybe 3 teams that would want Kirk (Atlanta, TB, NYJ).

5 easiest trades are Davenport, Hunter, Hicks, Smith, Cleveland. All on 1-2 year deals. Could probably throw in the blocking TE also. Going to be an interesting 2-3 weeks.

The chickens have come home to roost. This season is the end result of countless decisions made with the intent to patch things together, keep the roster "competitive", keep fan favorites, and have absolutely ZERO vision for the future. Congratulations Minnesota Vikings, you won, on average, a few more games than you lost in the regular season. You achieved the barest of minimum postseason success. You are the epitome of "pretty good" in a league where greatness continues to eat your lunch while banging your wife. I'm with Todd, burn this god-awful shitshow to the ground and build with a true vision. Let some other team sign all the "nice guys" that seem just like normal people. Sign me some stone cold killers.

KOM was always going to get 1 Shot at QBOTF, I doubt he gets two.

Future decisions remain in the hands of a pair of shady and criminal real estate investors/property managers and a former commodities trader.

Guessing at the future and taking a peak at the 2024 class the Kwesi I’m smarter than everyone special will be trading down from a top pick and taking oft injured Penix Jr bc analytics say what a bargain if he stays healthy.
