KOC’s 1st down play calling is uninspiring but I’ve been to hard on him. He was able to pull this season out of the fire and get us looking respectable. The way he bridged the play calling and the raw QB was nothing short of brilliant.

Kudos coach. You’re doing a great job.

I've been hard on him too.

Play calling is KOC's, achilles heel but players will run through a wall for him and never ever quit.

After an 0-3 start; the last 4 games have really made the season enjoyable again. What a beautiful, ugly game that was yesterday. We showed so much grit!

Gotta agree. Playcalling seems dumb sometimes but man the players are playing! Seems like maybe in a perfect world he hands off playcalling and he can focus on the rest. Bottom line when we had to move the ball we did.

My 0.02

Jaren Hall had two drives. first was, as expected, a dud. Second looked a lot better, and then BONG. the bell is rung.
Now we have a guy playing QB that has not practiced a snap with the team, didn't know most of the receivers full names. Barely had seen the playbook. And first drive he gets sacked for a safety. Next drive fumble!! Things weren't looking good for ye old vikings fans. He fumbled again later in the game.

But.

The defense, with the exception of one 60 yd TD play kept the Falcons out of the endzone when they could have put us away really early. They generated a couple turnovers themselves, turnover ratio on the day is 0. I get it we aren't exactly playing offensive juggernauts lately but, still, this Flores run defense has been doing pretty well and did well this game until Altanta figured out you can run the ball all day on us, drove the field and scored a go ahead TD late in the game.

I seriously don't understand why our opponents don't run the ball a lot more, it's been shown time and again that we get eaten up by the run.

Now about Dobbs. three bad plays really all game long. Two fumbles and one saftey. Other than that, he took control of the game. when plays broke down he used his legs to keep the play alive.

And this is a big and very important point to me: With less than two minutes left in EACH HALF, he managed to get us into the endzone. I am tempering my enthusiasm a bit because there is a reason he was available at the trade deadline. and a reason he's been this journeyman for so long. He really hasn't been that good.. but he may be, like Case Keenum before him, the perfect QB for this team, for this moment. I have no problem with him getting the starts from this point as he showed great leadership and poise in this game. He's earned next week. I hope next week he earns the next and so on and so forth until we are done...then we keep him at worst as the backup....because he just did what you need a backup to do...come in a win you a game.

And did all he did mostly without JJ, Osborn, and with the likes of Mundt, Oliver, Powell, Trishton Jackson. Ignorance is bliss, he didn't know he couldn't throw to these guys.

Now it sounds like Akers is out now with an Achilles. and we what little we had for a running game was because of Akers....Oy. How did we win?

Running I think we need to start giving Ty Chandler and Kene Nwangwu a lot more oppotunities. because Mattison is just not getting it done. But I will have to say to anyone that thinks Mattison is useless in the passing game. He had a pretty good catch and run in this one.

Dobbs has to be one of the top NFL stories of the year. Shows up on Wednesday. Within four days, including travel time to Atlanta, he leads the team on an 11 play, 75 yard go-ahead TD in the final two minutes.

He ran or passed for 72 of those 75 yards.

His only meals have been via delivery and team meals, in part because he doesn't know where the grocery store is.

He has no car, no keys, and can give Jack Reacher a run for his money as far as fewest possessions.

When he had to pack for travel to Atlanta he just zipped up his carry-on, brought everything he showed up with, and checked out of his 'home'.

The first down runs last night are understandable with the knowledge Dobbs had of the system going into the game. They werent gaining any yards but they werent turnovers, either. Conservative for sure.

It was great seeing the gushing over Dobbs by McCoy on NFL Network and Hasselbeck on Sports Center. Both guys couldn’t emphasize enough how what he was able to do was nearly impossible.

Feels like it’s been awhile since we were more than an afterthought outside of Minnesota. Today is the first day all season where I’m going to be reading everything about the game I can find.

Judd with a great explanation of why that 2 miin drill went so well: KOC being in his ear the whole way instead of being cut off at 15 secs, or whatever it is ... Lots of praise for how smart O'Connell is

Right up there with the Buffalo and Indy wins last year. Things looked bleak and we found a way.

4 in a row. Trade deadline gone. No more tank talk. Let's win the division and see what happens.

One nitpick among the many great things that the coaches did yesterday. I was a bit surprised they let Powell fair catch those punts inside the 10. I get that if they down it inside the 1-2 it's really bad but I take my chances. We were going to call a really conservative series regardless.

With a 5th round rookie, and a guy that doesn't even know his teammates names, I tell Powell to let that sucker bounce and take our chances. I counted 3 that he caught inside the 10.

9 seconds left kneel down in 2nd quarter was weak.

Couple of other keys to the game:

1) Mattison was used in the passing game for a couple of big plays.
2) Atlanta offense struggled with short field in the 1st half and after our 1st drive of 2nd half. First fumble by Dobbs gave them the ball at our 1. 2nd gave them the ball at our 20.

Lost in the shuffle of new quarterbacks today was the fact that the Vikings had only 1 penalty for 4 yards and Atlanta had 8 for 62 yards. Very disciplined game for Minnesota.

For me the game recaptured some of the flukiness of last year that I thought had evaporated, especially the first 3-4 games this season.

The outcome just didnt seem likely at all … right up to the final td pass. Amazing.

Like last year, I still don’t have a clue how good this team is … the current win streak aside. Unlike last year, the defense is notching up a bit … might not have the horses to be downright good but they are improved, more competitive, less predictable … more legitimate. OL too.

I think the Keenum comparisons are spot on … what we lose in KCs steady production has a chance be balanced out by our backup’s escapability and feistiness under the gun. A long way to know that, Dobbs and the team get a lot of credit for overcoming some real bad gaffes … but ATL didn’t hurt us like a decent team probably would either.

T least the season isnt lost … one game in from losing the entrenched starter and there’s still some hope.

I was a little worried that they might flag Quessenbary for a little grab on Dobbs 4th and 7 play. But, I don't think that crew called one holding on an OLineman all game.

Seemed like the team has been very focused since the 1-4 start. Amazing to be 4-1 on the road---that speaks volumes of the coaching going on.

Defense is light years better.

It will be interesting to see if KOC does more RPO with a full week of practice for Dobbs. Plus Dobbs will have more of a handle on quick hitting routes. He held the ball quite a long time and then had to make the great runs.

RPO may not be the best due to what our depth is at QB. Dobbs does seem to do pretty good in the pocket outside of holding the ball a little too long but if you can roll him out at times it does give the defense a different look. There is the threat of him running which KOC may scheme to.

I'm ok with that cuz they could call holding nearly every play in the game if they chose to.
