Talk me off the ledge. I haven't really emotionally bought into the Vikes since 98. Bought in and was ready to rock this team. Then they do what they do...RIP my heart out again.

Now I want to go 2-15 with the two wins over the Slackers. F'em this year. Find the QB of the future.

The difference between Hall and Cook is vast. Cook looks cooked.

Kwesi's made a lot of questionable decisions, but I think he got that one right

The worst thing to come out of the game---sounds like Bradbury is out for a while if not the whole year. He messed up his back pretty bad early.

Addition by subtraction..

Vikings need to injury settle and cut his ass and bring in a center from..FN anywhere else..…

Re-signing him should be a fireable offense. Dump Queasy.

He's only been a disaster for 4 years. Unbelievable some of our contracts.

Hi Talkvikes crew. Thought I'd chime in some this year. Hope that's okay! Yes, you could end up with a Mahomes or a Mayfield. Does that mean you don't draft a QB high in the first round? Of course not. The question seems to be should the team trade JJ to acquire picks and take a shot at one of the top QB's next draft? JJ is the most gifted receiver in the NFL, no question. He'll cost a fortune to sign to his next contract. We've had Moss, Carter, Diggs and now Jefferson to name a few of the standout receivers the team has had. Zero Super Bowl appearances with any of them. Their fault? No, of course not.

I'd trade JJ at the end of the season IF I determined that the overall talent on the roster is not capable of making it to the Super Bowl. Having the best receiver in the NFL doesn't matter if the team overall isn't good enough to make it to the Super Bowl. Bottom line...would you rather have the best receiver in football or a true star at QB? Giving up JJ would be a very hard decision. Obviously, you could screw up the draft and get another Ponder, but you could also get the next great QB.

Wow

We lost ONE game and now the calls to trade JJ are surfacing.

He is one of the top 5 players in the NFL. You don't trade talent like that unless you get a king's ransom. You don't actively shop them either. You build around them. He is ESTABLISHED talent. He has ESTABLISHED himself as one of the best in the game. You don't trade them for the crapshoot that a draftpick can be.

JJ is here at least the next few years. This year. Next year on 5th year option and then we can franchise him two more years after that. Why on Earth would anybody actively shop him unless he is totally disgruntled, which he isn't?

In fairness the question of trading JJ for multiple #1's has been around for a while. The idea is give Hou/AZ (or whomever) multiple 1's to get the #1 overall and taking William's. I'm not advocating it but I see the logic.

Unfortunately the team has too many long term holes to legitimately make run during JJ's prime.

If I owned the team I'd fire Queasy today and bring in someone who understands football better than they understand Wall Street and let them make whatever moves necessary including trading JJ to make us a legit contender in 3-4 years. I advocated the tear down when Spielman and Zim were fired but we've wasted 2 offseasons and gone backward.

That was a pretty easy call.

Just from what the roster looks like before week 1, there have been plenty of post-1998 Vikings teams to buy into instead of this one. Mainly because the D was/is full of questionmarks.

The 2022 Cousins? Because the 2023 version is going to look bad. The NFL is littered with QBs who stayed too long, who shouldn't be out there, and sadly ended their career crumpled on the turf. Not saying Cousins will be crumpled, but he's done. I think he has already mentally checked out and is going through the motions.

I would hope there was a move to beef up the o-line coming with the added cap space. Feels like it would be prudent.

#Vikings restructured the contract of right tackle Brian O’Neill, creating $9.99M in cap space per @FieldYates

Diggs will go full Diva if Allen doesn't right the ship. Diggs is only an asset when everything is perfect, otherwise he is a team killer.

Too bad we can't trade Cousins to the Jets

Mahomes, Burrow, Lawerance, and Herbert IMO are about the only QB's head and shoulders better than Kirk. Everybody else has question marks and serious faults.

I have no problem moving on from Kirk but it's more likely the Vikings roll Craps vs rolling Yahtzee when it comes to the next QB.

So you think only 4 qbs are better than Kirk? Strange.

Who else easily is? Likely a few are but I would also bet they have flaws and a lot better OL.

Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Rodgers even though he's done and honestly I'd put many more above him. I'd put Allen above him easily too even though last night was bad.

The running QB’s I am not sold on. It’s all fine and dandy until they get hit a few times. Better win a Super Bowl very early.

I think Lamar is already washed.

Hurts had the benefit of the world’s easiest schedule and an excellent team around him.

I thought NE was supposed to be lucky to win over 7 games. Phil barely escaped 'em.

Of course week 1 was hard on a lot of teams expecting to do a lot better

Among the reported details in the trade, the Jets received Rodgers, a 2023 first-rounder that became DE Will McDonald IV and a 2023 fifth-rounder that was traded.

The Packers received a 2023 first-rounder (DE Lukas Van Ness), a 2023 second-rounder (TE Luke Musgrave) and a 2023 sixth-rounder (K Anders Carlson). Green Bay will also receive a 2024 conditional second-round pick, but that can bump to a first-rounder if Rodgers plays 65% of snaps this year.

So, the Packers may have already received their compensation from the Jets for the four-time league MVP and Super Bowl winner. How each of their three 2023 picks fare in the future will determine who really won the trade.

Right before the beginning of the 2023 season on Saturday, the Minnesota Vikings restructured the contract of right tackle Brian O’Neill. The move was reported by ESPN’s Field Yates.

The move for the Vikings ended up saving them $9.99 million on the salary cap in 2023. O’Neill was the ideal candidate for this to happen, as his contract is likely to see its end after the 2027 season.

Making this move right before the season is done to give a team salary cap space for in season moves. Per game roster bonuses don’t hit the salary cap until they are earned, which need salary cap space. It’s the same thing that the Vikings dealt with last season with Za’Darius Smith.

The other element at play here is contract extensions. The Vikings were trying to get one done with Justin Jefferson and ended up getting one done with Josh Metellus.

It’s not likely that the Vikings made this move to sign someone from the outside, but it’s also not an impossibility.
