Too bad he's 0-1 against this Eagles team. Seems like we play them 80 % of the time at the Link.

He has 10 starts against Philly. 6-4 Record.

He's actually 2-1 against them as a Viking, but the wins were a while ago.

10/7/18: W 23-21 (30/37, 301, 1 TD, 0 INT)
10/13/19: W 38-20 (22/29, 333, 4 TD, 1 INT)
09/19/22: L 7-24 (24/46, 221, 1 TD, 3 INT)

Well they're pretty much returning the same team as last year. So I guess my point was look at what happened last year. Recent history suggests that his 6-4 record is irrelevant.

Of course it is ... I'm not in jh.

but we'll be bringing in a different TE this year -- maybe that'll make a difference ;)

I didn´t pick the Vikings to win in my weighted-pick-pool but I did only assign a weight of 6 out of a possible 16. In my weekly picks I do against my dog I picked the Vikings. Last week we both picked the Vikings. This week the dog picked the Eagles. I think the Vikes can pull off the upset if they just stick with what gives them the best chances and Kirk needs to relax and not be so uptight. Obviously JJ gives us the best chance and I'd go at him as much as possible and be ready to react when Philly shifts coverage to him. We should be looking to throw 75% of the time. For crying out loud can we get Hock down the field? I think the Eagles will be expecting us to go with a lot of short passes, swing passes, and screens to help out our terrible blitz pickups. Somehow we need to exploit that and throw deeper while looking like we're going to throw short. We need Kirk to have some pocket presence. Would like to see some pump fakes and step up past the undisciplined pass rushers - maybe run for five yards every once in a while and slide. Opposing D's don't respect the chance that he'll run. He only needs to do it about three times and that will stop the safeties from sitting back deep.

I wouldn't give ANY qb $30-50+ mil unless that QB had won me a Super Bowl. Did you win a Super Bowl on your rookie deal? Yes? Great! Here's your hugenormous contract. F it let's just run victory laps and love life. No? Good luck. Next!

My concerns for this season in priority order:
- Overall team direction, purpose, etc in the outyears.
- The right GM and HC.
- Drafts.
- Contracts, cap, etc.
- Free agency.
- Bad injuries, to include repeated concussions.
- Outcome of the games.
- Pivotal plays in a game.

Sounds more like a big picture view. With future indicators.

As if the season is gone already.

My approach is more pragmatic and still in ‘the now.’ I’m trying to decide on which limb to sacrifice to the ferocious talon of the eagle, so I can scurry away and live for game 3.

It is.

It has, or more accurately since the offseason have never thought this season's team would be competitive.

The best feasible outcome is this coming offseason we finally surface after being underwater since Spielman's last two years. Then the real work begins. Any of us could have cut the expensive deadwood, signed the likes of Phillips and Davenport, and created void years to stash $40 million.

I had to give this one some thought.

It may be a cold hard truth. And I don't have a sufficient defense because my expectations this season are lower than last year. With the TB game as a small reinforcement for that low expectation.

That expectation being based on, not the 13-4 holy hope regular season version, but the team that finished 5-4 with three of those four losses being wallops. And the fourth (playoff) one coming to a disgusting end.

All that being said, the season ain't over.

Certainly in terms of a SB, without much of a doubt in terms of a top 3-4 NFC ranking, maybe in terms of competing for a wildcard spot ...which isn't a very high standard.

It is possible for this team to defy my expectations. I won't adjust my expectations until I see them at least six or seven games in.

Blowing by those expectations? Its kinda like the dumb and dumber 'I'd say one out of a million ... so, you're telling me there's a chance!'

Good post Tom. I keep hoping somehow Kirk gets in the me against the world attitude and goes out tonight throwing strikes. He's done it before so let's hope he does it tonight. However if we get mollywhopped tonight I think the reality of this season will maybe start to set in a little. At least show some fight!

The bad news is I'll probably only get to see the second half. I guess that could be ok depending on how the game goes.

If you saw only the second half last year, you might have thought 'a scoreless second half, not bad' even though it was 24-7 at the half.

Hope to be wrong, but for now am focused on the defense. A couple of the CBs and multitudes of humanity at safety have to pan out. Fingers crossed on Pace and Carter. I don't see the needle moving at all on the DL unless Roy comes out of nowhere.

Pace
Carter
Blackmon
Murphy
Evans
Metellus (by default for now)

The great irony of our injury report is, our starting C is out which is a huge advantage.

That tweet offers a ray of hope. But IMO their OL and DL will be the difference makers. Oh, and their WRs. And the mobility difference between the QBs.

Edit - Reference the tweet, Nakobe Dean started just one game last year. And one of their starting safeties was Marcus Epps.

I just had a really bad feeling about this year, going into it.

I saw a team that really got dominated by good football teams last year a 2022 draft class that looked bad, and I was not enamored with the FA moves.
I'm not a cap guy, but Harrison Smith was head scratcher why he was not released. Everyone else that was old and regressed was released. Why not Smith?

It''s going to be a fun team to watch from fantasy standpoint, but man, if you believe football is won upfront, this team ain't it.
Bradbury and Ingram are both well below average, and we're not real deep.

I'm sorry, but our defensive line is a joke. Lowry, Tonga, Bullard, Phillips has to be one of the worst lines in the league. To make it worse we run a lot of 3-4, but have no true NT for a 3-4

The good news is the 2023 draft look better, and we are heading into a good spot from a cap standpoint.

I don't believe Kwesi believes thinks this team can win paying $ for a 10-13th ranked QB with no mobility. He's not dumb, he sees the model alot of teams are using to build good rosters. You have to get than young stud on the cheap and build the roster around that.

Then you manipulate the cap going forward.

But if we don't start investing in the lines, and now more so the defensive line, this team will be death by 1.000 cuts. I felt the team was mediocre last year, and I still see the same type of team this year.

They have enough weapons to keep them in games, but they will never control or dominate a game.

In the last 8 drafts, the team has drafted 2 defensive lineman in the first 4 rounds, and that's a 3rd and 4th rounder

That's rough. It no wonder we have the current dline we do.

All those wasted CB and LB picks vs building up your dline.

He's now 5th or possibly 6th (if Jay Ward is ahead of him) on the S pecking order.
