Turf toe sucks. I lost a big toenail because of turf toe. It takes forever to get it right again.

EAGAN, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones hopes to return to practice Thursday as he recovers from what the team has reclassified from a hip injury to a right hamstring injury.

Jones did not participate in the Vikings' full-pads practice Wednesday. Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell has been noncommittal about Jones' availability for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions.

"Aaron is going to progress throughout the week and hopefully has a chance to go on Sunday," O'Connell said.

Jones said he first began feeling tightness in his right hip during pregame warmups prior to the Vikings' Week 5 game against the New York Jets in London. It loosened prior to kickoff, but he felt it again after making a leaping grab of a 23-yard pass from backup quarterback Nick Mullens on the Vikings' second possession of the game.

"That play really kind of did it," Jones said. He took two more carries after that play before the team's medical staff decided to pull him from the game.

"They said, 'We don't want you to go out there and hurt yourself any further,'" Jones said.

If Jones can't play against the Lions, backup Ty Chandler will start. The Vikings also reacquired running back Cam Akers from the Houston Texans this week, and Akers should be available against the Lions as well.

...and it seems like one would be very susceptible to reinjury if not completely healed.

Reasons Jones will be out an additional week or two:

- KOCs comment was non-committal, but he's not good at lying.
- With this regime, much of the time players are out a lot longer than the initial prognosis.
- They need to be careful with the injury.
- Akers trade (practically a give away).

As an aside, Akers isn't quite like Fernando Smith who Denny brought back twice, but he's getting there.

Glad to have Akers back. But this means…Jones is out for a long time, right?

Probably not.

More like a lack of faith in Chandler and knowing Jones is prone to missing time.

It’s the Vikings. I always assume the worst.

I think he is a big improvement over Gaskin and with Chandler and Jones; depth is needed.

According to Doogie the Vikes also had dialog with the Bears on Kyrie Herbert.

He also speculates that Akers has more to do with Chandler than Jones … which hopefully is true. ‘RBs are a dime a dozen,’ well yeah until you plug ‘just another guy’ into your high performing offense.

If its true that we’re not that high on Chandler, why we didnt roster more options to try out in tc is befuddling.

Don’t know much about Herbert. I thought maybe we were talking about Tice’s training camp S phenom … though that was a long time ago.

That was a mistake and it was an easy call considering Jones injury history. Now we've had to give up assets 2years in a row to remedy a roster building error.

GZus you guys are tight.

A 2026 6th for a7th and a player is like getting an ice cream cone today for sticky change 2 years from now. It’s gonna be ok.

Jones and TJ both questionable. I guarantee Hick is feeling a million times better than Jones. But we’ll see Jones and not Hock.

I’d do the opposite.

I wouldn't mind seeing a guy like Oliver or Ham target Det's knee buster safety early. I'll take a personal foul penalty providing it sends a message.

last year's trade with the rams for akers was for a 2026 pick, too...in 2026 we'll have two separate deals kick in for the same player, but different trades and with different teams....

It's almost comical.

But it was pretty clear early with only Jones and Chandler (neither durable) rostered that we needed more juice in the RB room and Gaskin ain't it.

Ok 2 6ths for 2 7ths and a player is still virtually meaningless. When KAM can hit from the 1st through UDFA.

Yeah the future 6th for a future 7th seems to be the standard for 'here, take the guy and three day old scraps in exchange for two day old scraps.'

But yes, the RB corps should have been handled better. The rebuild continues.

Bring back Speilman. We will remember how we didn't like 6th and 7th rounders.

Forget Oliver or Ham. Send Darrisaw or O'Neill after the cheap shot artist.

FYI all, I was not being critical of kwesi because of his trading for akers twice - I respect the guy for having the balls to do it, especially after not signing him earlier this summer when he had the chance....

I thought I heard that last year's trade didn't meet the conditions and that the trade was then a wash.
