So KOC philosophy on Jones.....keep him fresh early and try to wear the defense out by passing early in the game.

At some point you have to be able to control the pace of the game and the clock in the playoffs. There is nobody in the league better than Mahomes at controlling the fate of a game in the final five minutes of any half. He's able to do it because they can run it a bit. The Vikings will need Jones to be healthy to keep any defense honest of the run.

I'd like to see the offense do a bit more than let Darnold sit back in the pocket. At some point you need to move him around a bit and make the defense contain. The offensive line is not good enough, consistently, to hold up against a good rush. Last night they got themselves out of a lot of third and long situations because the Bears can't cover anyone. That won't happen against the good defenses.

With those 4 (JJ, Addison, TJ, and Jones).....most teams can't cover....so they pick their poison.

The players are there. It's the play-calling that often confuses me. It's one thing to score when you are ahead. It's another when facing a good team when you need to have it.

Also with the Lions....they liked using Gibbs in the short passing game. Looking like they unleash LaPorta in that now more....they still have the offense. There defense though has more holes than our 2022 team.

16 players on defense on the IR I heard.

Yep

My hope is that O'Connell doesn't get big-headed and think his offense is unstoppable. You have to be able to adapt the offensive scheme, depending on who you are playing. I see O'Connell as a guy that runs his system and says you can't stop it. At some point, you need to adapt. Last night the Bears started to get pressure on Darnold and started taking some things away. Eventually he went to more short passes and dumpoffs to move the chains, but it seemed like a painfully long time before he recognized it.

Also, when you have a team like Chicago (with offensive issues) and they are 10 points from quitting in the second quarter because they have nothing to play for, kick the damned field goal! Why give them air in their lungs?

True....KOC loves to throw Medium to Deep passes. That was a detriment against good safties but also the reason why Darnold is such a fit as he can scramble and buy time. KOC isn't going to stop taking shots. No matter the secondary.

TJ back sure helps with the short passing game.

The guys in front of Darnold in passer rating:

Lamar Jackson, sacked 21 times
Jared Goff, sacked 26 times
Joe Burrow, sacked 33 times

Sam Darnold, sacked 42 times

If they keep Darnold in the pocket against somebody like Philadelphia, it is going to be the 2017 playoffs all over again when they rolled into Philly at 13-2 and got smoked. Ever since Darrisaw got hurt that o-line has been very suspect.

The o-line was suspect before Darrisaw got injured. Simply the worst GCG in football.

What teams will be looking for a quarterback this off-season?

Las Vegas
Tennessee
NY Giants

Others that should be:

New Orleans
Cleveland (how does GM Andrew Berry keep his job?)

Others where it is time to start thinking about it (for a variety of reasons):

Rams (old)
Cowboys (inconsistent and oft-injured)
Panthers (unproven)
Jaguars (unproven)
Dolphins (headaches)
Jets (old)
Bucs (inconsistent)

With a draft that doesn't appear to be deep at quarterback, Darnold is going to get a big pay day this off-season.

And that team is going to realize our WR’s/coach/system elevated Sam Darnold. This is working, even if last night barely…damn he was inaccurate…but he’s not taking a bunch of guys and leading them anywhere.

I would let SB winning Dam Darnold walk out the door.

Unless we could tag and trade.

No doubt. But that could be said of any quarterback on any team. A quarterback can't win without talent around him or a great system in place. Darnold was in New York and Carolina with some of the worst talent in the league. He failed miserably. It doesn't mean he didn't have the arm talent or skills to win in the NFL. The same could be said for Jared Goff. At times, he was awful in Los Angeles. Now he has one of the great offensive lines and has the success to go with it.

At the end of the day, this quarterback (Darnold) is having success with this team around him. That should be the top priority when choosing a future quarterback, not speculation.

Somebody out there will think they have the talent on the roster for Darnold to win in their city. Guaranteed!

My guess is that this is the most likely scenario this offseason.

We are really short on draft picks. Could use a few more. and Darnold will be highly sought.

My .02 on the game.

Bears beat themselves as much as we beat them. I can see Caleb Williams becoming a very good QB in this league, but the coaching situation and learning how to lose when he hasn't for his entire life will take some time. but he was missing WIDE OPEN guys all night. I get that our defense can be confusing especially to younger QBs, but growing pains only cover a little of it. The instability in coaching isn't helping the kid either.

We were more penalized than average this game.

I loved how Ham basically carried Akers into the endzone on the last TD.

Jones looked like a man possessed at times. No fumbles...that was good.

JJ dropping that one pass, yikes. He catches that, probably scores and the route would have been on.

A really good QB will pick this defense apart, Goff and Love coming soon to a stadium near you.

All that being said, the game wasn't as close as the score. the Bears lone TD was in garbage time with our 2nd and 3rd stringers in on defense.

Our Defense allows a lot of yards it seems but has been really good at keeping opposing teams out of the endzone.

Just a guess but a lot depends on what happens with Stafford and Purdy. If Stafford retires he would be a great fit with the Rams. If the Niners decide that Purdy isn't the guy, at the money he's going to want, could be going back to SF. Both would be good sign and trade options.

I disagree with this one a bit. If that TD isn't called back for a guy not reporting (it was a legit penalty but dumb on his part) that game gets really interesting.

I'd argue he wasn't half bad with Carolina. Anyone else out there lately going 8-10 with that team that's even close to being available? He may be better than I think. I can't wait to see how the season finishes.

I saw it a bit differently.

If Jefferson catches the ball and scores the game is over. Afterwards, if we kick the field goal and go up 13-0 the game is close to over. The decision to go for it on 4th down is a trend in the NFL, and it has been turning on coaches. It was a bad decision.

Darnold's interception was not a bad throw, it was a victim of circumstance (he had no chance). If the Bears were smart they would have dropped it and gained about 15-20 yards on the play. They were already getting the ball back because it was fourth down.

and if JJ doesn't have that one bad drop.... we probably win 42-6.

Bears looked best when they were running the ball. If we go up big there, they may have to abandon the run and that's when the rout would begin.

I would keep Darnold if he wins a road playoff game against a good team.

I might even be tempted to keep him, if he won the next 3 games, or won enough games to secure home field advantage in the playoffs.
