"Heading into Wednesday, Minnesota had $26.4 in cap space available, according to Over The Cap. If the Vikings are looking to make a big splash with a wide receiver trade (say Tyreek Hill?), then a little more breathing room, salary cap-wise, likely felt necessary "

Theilen would probably be a better fit, even if Hill is a better WR.

Total rumour mongering. Nothing more.

I would say this though, Jefferson Addison and Hill would instantly make McMcarthy look like Frank Tarkenton.

He has indicated he wants out …

and also indicated he wants to stay.

So what, does the math work?

He costs a lot. No way we add that kind of cap hit while giving up more than just a couple of low round picks.

We need a WR more for just the first few games. Once Addison is back (and he will have about 5 weeks to heal from whatever ailment he has) that WR will be used less. That would be a bad situation for Hill, who wants the ball like he's a WR1, On a team with Jefferson as WR1 And Addison as 1A, Tryeek Hill wouldn't really fit.

Hill is NOT coming to MN. No way.

They can free up a little cap space. They have all these young guys at DT behind Allen and Hargrave that have played well so far. I'm not happy about the move but it makes sense if they feel the rookies, UDFAs and second year guys like Redmond, Drake Martinez, the ingram-whatsahoozits, Taimani are ready.

Initially it seemed more like a financial decision considering the outlay for the DL. But the Vikings are paying 1/2 of Phillips' salary so will retain about 1/3 of his $9+M cap hit, which isn't that high anyway.

We basically get a 6th and since it's our 2027 7th for the Jets 2026 6th and 2027 6th.

Merely a trade of an oldish vet in exchange for $6M in cap, a late pick, and an opportunity for the reserves?

He was the Joe Lunch Pail type. Sort of the DL equivalent of Leroy Hoard... if you need one yard, I'll get you three yards. If you need five yards, I'll get you three yards.

I think Harry has like a 9.5ml cap hit next year and would have been immovable with that number. He's also one dimensional and I think these young guys have some upside.

Flores loves all three of three of the young DL. Jalen Redmond has moved up to Phillips spot.

I think it's also a move to get Elijah Williams a spot on the 53. No way they could stash him on the practice squad IMO.

It will be a Thielen type as long as JJ's hammy is ok....

Vikes working on bringing Adam Thielen home, if they can agree on a trade deal.

"ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported on Friday that the Vikings have actually inquired about a trade for Thielen, which means the gears are already turning in Minnesota.
Reporter Ben Goessling also noted that the two sides need to agree on a price, but there is mutual interest."

Brosmer continues to outperform the other backups by a wide margin.

So JJM, Howell, Brosmer? They could be bold and go with Brosmer then Howell.

Carson Wentz was in for a workout today. It's safe to say that neither Howell or Rypien is going to he QB2.

And he's signed...and Howell is traded

we didn't lose too much value on the Howell trade, as he cost us a 5th, but we are giving him and a 6th to the Eagles for a 5th and a 7th

Which all of it is weird, because we could have just signed Wentz in the first place for nothing and he could have been here for training camp

Did they really think SH was worth a shot? (shit?)

Not a big fan of Wentz but this is a grass is greener thing ... almost any experienced journeyman would seem almost adequate.

That's not a true statement but Howell Rypien make it feel that way.

Brosmer is far from ready being a QB2 but he at least seems like a big upgrade from Hall or our typical #3 options in the past and, therefore, a solid emergency / #3 with potential for more.

CB still needs attention.

WR obviously.

A Punt and or Kick Returner / WR like Powell would be good. I would say we need better WR help than Powell to start the season but since we're right up against it ... a newbie might not contribute as much out the gate.

Its been a GOOD offseason but it never seems enough (for me). Hopefully we have one or two more tricks up our sleeve in the next few days. We are so close to having a STUDLY offseason, on paper.
