It's important to look at how the cap status is relative to the league. For example we could have $100 million in cap room but if the rest of the league has $200 million in surplus then our status is not 'healthy'.

Current 2027 cap status from OverTheCap:

At $67 million, Minnesota is 21st in cap space. Add in $12 million in offsets from Allen and Hargrave and Minnesota moves to 18th depending whether or not the three teams above them also have offsets.

- 20 teams have more than $70 million in cap space
- 10 teams have more than $100 million in cap space
- 5 teams have more than $125 million in cap space
- 2 teams have more than $150 million in cap space
- 1 team has more than $175 million in cap space

A quick look at the top dozen or so teams suggests the average number of players under contract is around 30. Notables: the Rams have 40 players under contract with $108 million in cap space. Eagles with 42 players and $83 million.

Coincidentially, Vikings, Packers, and Bears are listed in order with $61-67 million and 32-33 players under contract. Lions are at $100 million but with only 24 players.

The only QB under contract in Minnesota for 2027 is JJM.

And next year the order will all be reshuffled. Kick the can is hardly unique to the Vikings. Everyone does it. They employ it more or less aggressively from year to year.

Nowhere near the talent of a prime David Boston, but there are a few decent options for #3 WR out there, if their price isn't too outrageous:

1) Jauan Jennings (always a plus to have a "J" in your name)
2) Stefon Diggs
3) Deebo Samuel Sr.

Right, and it's fair to say everyone knows that.

An article above stated the Vikings 2027 cap situation was "healthy". Was curious so looked into that a bit in terms of how it reflected against the rest of the league. As always, I try to include the word Current even though I shouldn't have to.

Only problem is all 3 will want over 8+.......we are looking for 3-4 million.
Lets be smart and draft one later on that can play:

24. Bryce Lance, North Dakota State Bison
Big board rank: 153

With running back Ty Chandler officially agreeing to a deal with the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday afternoon, not one member of the team’s ten-man 2022 draft class got themselves a second contract with the Vikings.

Might rank as one of the worst drafts in NFL history. Esp when you consider how he got fleeced and the fact he got fleeced by teams whithin the division.

Both division rivals gave the players in our draft slots 2nd contracts(Williams, Watson) meanwhile Kwesi's first two picks are in the UFL.

To add insult to injury the guy he past on (Kyle Hamilton) has been an All-Pro every season he has been in the NFL.

Not sure you could **** up a draft worse than this.

So we signed Hecker to punt.
And tender a Tackle at 3.52 million.

Small moves yet.

Jalen Redmond earning a $1.184M player benefit based on his 2025 performance. This does NOT affect the #Vikings salary cap

they should give redmond an extension...keep him around for the next 3-5 years....

How about Greenard and a 6th to Dallas for a 2nd rounder? Saves 12M or so in cap space.

Then go sign AJ Epenesa for 8-10M a year. Or draft an Edge high in the draft.

We don’t even seem to be working the margins / back end of the roster.

Where are the Giblets?!!!

Odd even with very limited resources and an ownership group still flummoxed by last offseason’s ill-advised splurgings.

Maybe the tinkering part of the roster is mostly a GM compulsion. The urge to tweak.

I suppose you remove that urge and its just coaches coaching and accountants accounting.

The tackle was tendered by the Bills at 3.5 million, we offered him a fully guaranteed one-year deal for $4.2 million. The $700k delta is to put a slight bit of pressure on the Bills and, if the Bills pass, to entice the guy to sign knowing he's going into a similar (backup) situation.

Brzez misses the Poison Pill days.

Although Seattle's comeback for Burleson was more creative:

Geographic Clause: The entire $49 million would become fully guaranteed if Burleson played five or more games in a single season in the state of Minnesota. This was a certainty for the Vikings, whose home games were in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minnesota, but an impossibility for the Seahawks.

Salary Clause: The contract would also be fully guaranteed if Burleson was paid less, on average, than all of his team's running backs combined. In Seattle, this was not an issue due to running back Shaun Alexander's large salary, but the Vikings' running back salaries were well below the $7 million average of Burleson's offer sheet.

I would do it.

The quartet of quarterbacks on the Vikings roster have started 198 games and own a record of 94-102-2. The experience level is a stark contrast to this time a year ago, when McCarthy and Brett Rypien (four career starts) were alone in the QB room.

LOL, as if "experience" equates to success.

The cool thing is if we start out 8-0, the quartet will have a combined .500 record! At this point, that could get them all into the Vikings Ring of Honor.

I'm guessing they don't want to have to start Brosmer again, considering both Murray and McCarthy's injury history?
