ORIGINAL: Jeff Jesser The stuff that I've read about Harbaugh was the Wilf's were very interested, but they thought it would be better in going with someone who was the opposite of Zimmer, personality wise. Zimmer personality wise was a problem for the guys on offense.....mostly Kirk and the kicker. No, Zimmer in general was the issue. Jeff is right, they went with a kumbaya type after Zimmer. By almost all reports later in his tenure, Zimmer was a problem for the defensive players. He and Rhodes had a sideline blowup. Zimmer wanted the defensive backs in exact spots. Yes Zimmer literally ran the highly touted Daniel Carlson out of Minnesota. Zimmer didn't even get along with Spielman. I think Carlson was later.....he wasn't the kicker that missed the playoff FG. (Blair Walsh) Rhodes was toast if not done in zone coverage that year but when they found out Spielman and Zimmer didn't talk to each other they both were gone. No Carlson was not later. Carlson was during Zimmer's reign... in fact, pretty close to smack dab in the middle of his reign. And Carlson of course did not miss a playoff FG because Zimmer released him in September of his rookie year. Rhodes was a Pro Bowler the year of the blowup, but that was mostly based on reputation. But it didn't stop Zimmer from publicly saying Rhodes needed to live up to his contract. So again, along with ragging on the D, not communicating with Spielman, Zimmer infected the team beyond mostly 'Kirk and the kicker' (Walsh for you, Carlson for me). He became an authoritarian and it was definitely time to hire someone who could cool down the room. Bump. Phil, do you have an issue with what I just said here? Or are you hoping your Blair Walsh tangent gains traction? Both? Which kicker did he ruin? Certainly not Carlson. Not sure how you can exaggerate away that. First off, you didn't even know Carlson was in the Zimmer era! Second, you come back with another loaded/veiled/misleading question, because you have nothing else. Nobody besides YOU said Zimmer "ruined" any kicker. Carlson, as you've been spoon fed, became an All-Pro after he got away from Zimmer. Obviously you do not see the magnitude of that. The point stands that Zimmer was an authoritarian, and you are hanging onto threads to say... who knows what exactly. lol says you. All I said is Blair was first. You really have to quit exaggerating your points. No exaggeration, Zimmer wanted it his way WRT the defense, offense, special teams, and GM.
