McCarthy's performance yesterday is frankly inexcusable at the NFL level. He is ridiculously bad. I saw in the post game presser someone asked KOC about JJM's performance and he literally started choking on his words and ended up diverting to talking about Tai Felton and the D's performance instead, he completely avoided the question as there was no positive takeaway from his game. I think his story in Minne after this year is over unfortunately.

He and KOC can't leave town fast enough. Our best coach by far is Flores.

It's obvious JJ needs the work, so why not give him more than a quarter of play time? Instead let's give Brosmer a full half.....makes no sense to me.

Lewis from the Athletic said JJM got banged up and the plan was to play him longer.

JJM is bag of potato chips that has been mishandled by the grocery store shelf stockers. Just a lot of crumbs and excuses.

That metaphor is Sykesworthy

“Football looks hard for him.”

- Anonymous offensive coach on #Vikings QB JJ McCarthy in @SandoNFL recent poll ranking quarterbacks around the NFL.

Interesting.

Toughness not translating into durability is a great point.

I also liked… “The head coach and QB coach (Josh McCown) are quarterback snobs because they played the position,” an exec said. “Backup QBs love the fundamentals because it’s their only chance to spend 3-4-5 years in the league. So, the question is, when is their patience going to run out …”

Its a snobbish comment about former backup qbs being qb coach snobs, but rings true.

Maybe JJ will get over the fundamentals / injury hump … might or might not not be with us. KOC MCCOWN seem much more adept at molding off track experienced players than developing new ones.

So IOW that exec is implying coaches pretty much look for QBs who have the fundamentals down pat to be the backup? Seems so. Because in the usual QB scheme it's 1-Starter, 2-Fundamental veteran who can hang in there for a few games, 3-Boom/bust clipboard holding youngster.

In that sense, we would have 1-Murray, 2-Wentz, 3-JJM.

These posts were from Aug 6.

Even though Wentz hasn't done anything besides go through the motions, he is on a trajectory to be the full-time backup. It just hasn't been officially announced yet.

Man, I heard that JJM sailed 3 consecutive throws over guys heads in a RZ drill that didn't feature any D. If he's missing guys like that still

He did that last year, this camp, and yesterday. After the game, he said:

"And it's great to have that experience logged in and that data logged in to be able to make that throw next time.... You get it out now and log that feeling, like I said, and make sure you hit it the next time."

Guess yesterday was the first time he started logging stuff.

That is a horrible response from JJ.

The whole world has seen this for two seasons and his response is, first time for everything … that won’t happen next time.

No wonder his development is stunted, he’s in denial about where his skill set is.

It really sucks because, guessing here, but....I don't think anyone/most wanted him to fail. We have to face reality though, He's not the guy. How to move on? That's the big question and I'll rip my hair out if KOC tries to blame this on KAM.

Trade him now. His value will only decrease from here.

Not sure what you mean. At the root of it, are you suggesting KOC did not have a big say in drafting him (no idea on the inner workings, nor do I put stock in rah rah coaches' remarks after the draft)?

During the draft nobody knew how he would pan out. Qweasy drafted him #10 overall with a trade up. In hindsight it appears KOC was handed a turd. The buck stops with the GM.

Honestly yeah, if there's no playoff win this year KOC can kick the bucket. He seems nice sure, but Ed Donatell was nice too and that guy was a legitimate football terrorist. If we had any other DC that season we make a real playoff run. Zim got a shorter leash and actually had some post season success. No results means its time to go byebye.

There was an “insider” who during the draft said JJ would not be a Viking by the start of week 1
They are looking more right by the moment
It looks to me KOC is trying to shy away from him slowly but surely
I would guess NFL QB is a lot about confidence, which JJ looks like he has zero of. And i
sure there is a lot of animosity towards each other despite public comments
Not really sure what would you get for him at this point. A 3rd or 4th tounder
Suppose if there is some big injury his value could go up
That may be what they are banking on. His stock is extremely low at the moment, but there will be injuries this year and teams could add him for depth or to compete with their back up

Not sure what he is worth but a 3rd seems high. Throwing hard to catch high fastballs to the right flank and not staying healthy just doesn't attract picks. Just don't know how you teach a guy to protect himself better....it is just so weird.

I think we'd be lucky to get a 6th rounder for him right now? And as bad as he is....still a better option for QB3 than Max Brosmer IMHO.

The Myles Price pass in the end zone from the 7 yard line is the epitome of his struggles....he is so innaccurate throwing to his right.

QBs available if/when teams sustain injuries to the position: Flacco, Wilson, Pickett, Garoppolo, Mariota, Zach Wilson.

I don't think you can get anything for JJM besides the in vogue standard ~ here take him and a 7th for a 6th. He can battle it out with Brosmer.

Teasley has zero ties to JJM.....it will be interesting to see what happens these last two-three weeks before the season starts.

Trade him away or rehab him?

Yeah, guess the other thing about trading JJ to another team in season is he is still extrememly raw
Played in a basic, run heavy system at Michigan and hasn't played a lot of NFL football
Doubtful, he’s going to pick up a new system and fix his mechanics all at once

Nor KOC. Why KOC needs to make playoffs to be retained
No doubt in my mind if we see a debacle this year we will see a brand new staff and QB next year

JJM simply doesn't have it. Can he win some games if things go right? Sure. Would you trust him when it mattered? I wouldn't. He's bottom backup material. We don't need that.
The 1 out of 6 that's no good. Only the Vikings.

Oh, I believe he 100% had the "final" say in it. No doubt in my mind. He had all those quotes before him:

I'm the qb killer (if a GM wanted to chose one)
franchises fail young QB's before young ect.....
we found our franchise QB

What I was implying. If he tries to walk away from this and pin it on KAM, it's a complete cop out.

A team looking to trade for JJM faces giving up resources for a flawed QB/project, with something like a $22.5 million 5th year option decision in May. Slim chance he becomes fundamentally sound this season. Zero chance any team exercises the option, so he would hit free agency after 2027.

As DL alluded to, San Diego might be the place. Other than that collegiate coach connection, even considering coaches who think they can coach up anyone, I just don't see a market for him.

His is a unique situation, brought on by being injured his entire rookie year which had not happened to a 1st round QB since at least 1967.

I don't know what KOC has promised but the key is who are you willing to hire? Harbaugh hasn't gone any farther than KOC (hired 2 years later of course).
