So Teasley stepping in after all that suggests he didn't say wait in order to give JJM another opportunity, but rather he was looking at things from potential return value (get nothing vs trying to shop him).

If that's accurate, even though Teasley had no ties or skin in the game WRT JJM, it's a commendable course of action to be patient and net a 5th and plus cap savings depending on contract specifics (cut vs trade scenario).

Agreed, McCarthy lost big career wise, unless he got himself out of a bad situation with a HC that disliked him, and into a more favorable situation, we will see.

He was given the last game to show something and chose not to. Makes it hard for many fans to stick to their guns on him at that point. He was lucky he was only on timeout for 3 weeks instead of cut. I am positive the JJM camp didn’t want him cut. That would be the highest embarrassment.

If JJM was trying to change the offense usually afforded to a Cousins or Favre. Well that just further proves it was a great move to move him.

Agree. The reports are also that the Seahawks did a lot of research on him coming into the draft so he had inside knowledge. Good to see him take a "clear head look" and make a decision. I'm really hoping he's the guy that finally solves the QB situation. Fingers crossed

Yeah hard to know the behind the scenes stuff but what you want most in a GM, besides personnel evaluation/improving the roster, is holding coaches / players accountable.

Sounds like after JJM and KOC exchanged hugs and promises of enduring friendship, Teasley was like, “Nah, I don’t think so (to the hug) but good luck to you, as long as your interests do not conflict with mine ” Hopefully, the whole situation went into Teasley’s secret HC dossier as a strike against KOC - no matter how you spin it, KOC and his staff 1) were a big part of the JJM buy-in with Kwesi, at least initially, and 2) have failed to develop squat in any young qb player. The opposite.

Please take that into account before sinking our top resources into another qb draft pick.

Here's a link to an article on the JJM trade that makes some good points. https://www.dailynorseman.com/minnesota-vikings-analysis/99795/j-j-mccarthy-trade-week-3-observations-minnesota-vikings The writer views the QB competition as a ploy to try to get high trade value for JJM if another team's starter got injured during preseason and they got desperate for QB. I always felt the the QB competition was never real and Murray was going to be the starter barring a disastrous Murray training camp/preseason.

Tyreek is kind of interesting. We could really use a WR3 upgrade.

But he's 32 years-old and it was just 1 year ago yesterday that he suffered a gruesome dislocated left knee and multiple torn ligaments (including his ACL and LCL).

I'd rather try to find a RB (or especially a QB...)

Watching the all 22, Murray continues to play scared. There were multiple times he was looking right at the correct read and instead of pulling the trigger, tucked the ball and ran.

Not sure if he has been coached to just take care of the ball or if that is just who he is now, but if this continues nothing will improve, no matter the opponent.

It wasn't all on him though. The receivers did a poor job finding space when Murray would scramble. Not that Murray was doing a good job looking downfield while he scrambled...

It would surely open up medium routes for TJ, JJ, and Addison.

He isn't comfortable under center yet.....I really wonder why they don't have him rollout some instead of just moving back to pistol/shotgun.

Exactly. QB although I know not who, then RB ...

Given that Jennings on paper seemed like the big upgrade at #3 WR we've all been pining for ... at this point, he's kind of just a downfield blocker. Hard to evaluate with the quarterbacking. Maybe concern with day-to-day Jefferson is fueling agent feelers at this point.

Plus, Tyreek would invite a Marty eruption of posts of dinosaur killing proportions, so let's not go there.

The quarterbacking this season greatly favors RB over WR for Return on Investment. At least we're trawling around for people like Neal, Estime, and Dallas ... would be nice to find someone while Mason is out. Seems like Claiborne has the 'un-ripened rookie' label.

If he has his speed and lateral quickness back.

He also had a significant drop in production from his 2023 to his 2024 season. That's concerning for a smaller guy that is aging.

That's like saying, we can open up the Strait of Hormuz though nobody will go through there.

On a purely scientific basis, I estimate we get one shot out of 3 or 4 to actually complete in general:

For Murray, that's usually a 30-40 yarder ... there's nothing in between and certainly not a medium route ...his inter-continental trajectories have to squeak over the OL-DL and come back to land; for Wentz, its a three yard throw with his loud mournful bellow of intense agony stunning the defense, sometimes allowing the receiver to break free for two extra yards.

I see nothing that will help with medium routes except a better QB.

Some great points, and discussion.

McCarthy not playing the last preseason game, and expecting that he would still be the #2 QB, is another strike against him, good riddance. It seems like a valid concern whether or not KOC can handle a young QB, but he has plenty of regular season wins with veteran QBs.

Plus, Tyreek would invite a Marty eruption of posts of dinosaur killing proportions, so let's not go there.

A rude statement by Tom, hopefully it made him feel good about himself.

I heavily pushed WRs when the WR room was empty, we have 2 studs with JJ and Addison, and one of the better WR 3s with Jennings, it's cool that Tyreek is a Vikings fan, I don't see much of a need to add him.

Maybe someone on this site understands the contract numbers, I will ask once again:

Did trading McCarthy give the Vikings an extra 7 million to use on a FA, or to use for contract extensions, or isn't that how it works?

It is showing 5 million in dead cap for JJM. Guessing the signing bonus gets accelerated 1.8 years

I read it saves us 7 million. So we will probably see that savings next year I guess.

No.

We saved 895K this year and we save 3.8M next year (by not having his contract).

Click on the "Dead Money & Cap Savings tab and select "Trade (post-June 1)"

I thought Jennings was our WR3? The bigger bodied contested catch wr we were lacking?

I see zero need for another wr when our qb(s) can't even get the ball to the 3 we have.

Agree with you on QB and RB.

Some time in the not too distant future, or maybe even now, the capabilities of Myles Price and Tyreke Hill will intersect.

Don't know what kind of contract Hill wants, but if it is a one-year prove it deal to set up a multi-year contract then there are better places to go than Minnesota. As mentioned above, we can't even get the ball to the 3 WR we have. His agent is going to look pretty silly showing Hill's 2026 stats... 22 catches, 174 yards, 1 TD.

I doubt the Cheetah is still a Cheetah anymore after almost having his leg amputated.

Agree on Price. Let's stick with our younger Cheetah.

Agree with you on QB and RB.

We’ve added RBs Dallas Neal Estime recently, plus there’s still Claiborne to develop.

I totally agree with moving on from JJM and getting whatever you can … but sticking with Brosmer as your #3 offsets that move negatively IMO. We have to try out a QB or two or three … and hopefully come up with a viable #3 option.

No below avg QB floating around out there - Levis Milton etc - is going to be any less a fit system-wise for KOC than freakin’ Murray.
