The game was a rough watch especially the first half.

Still the stats show a dominant performance. 20-8 First Downs, 336-198 yds, won the turnover battle, almost 2:1 time of possession, 72-37 plays ran. Had Hock scored a 22-10 win sounds about right.

The good-bad-ugly:

Good:

The D overall
ST's (minus Hekker)
Hock
Kyler in the 4th
Turner
KVNoy

Bad:

Orange (dude, love the hustle but you can't take that chance on the OOB hit)
The big plays the D continues to give up, even if they got away with it today
J Jones (not his fault but WTF are we using him as a "down field" threat?)
KOC's first 3 quarters of playcalling
A TO after a dead ball penalty and, btw, not the first time

Ugly:

Hekker's punting, holy cow
Penalties were ridiculous
Injuries again, especially along the OL
The ref (the guy that flipped his lid because Wilson was pushed in to him)

I rewatched the 2nd half (wanted to forget the first) and it wasn't as bad as we remember in real time. That said, we caught a lot of "breaks" or this game is a loss to a pretty bad team. I appreciate the assist, but I still don't see the Pace punt 'tip'. The TD callback because the dude was out and came back in was a great call, but it was obvious. So not counting that. Cashman 'glancing touch on the RB' was also really iffy.

All in all, did anyone see us 4-0 heading into NO? I sure didn't and Kyler's 4th quarter gives me some hope. Survive that and you come out of the break at 5-0. If you had no idea who the guy was and I told you, after 4 games, and our first 2 were from Wentz, our week 4 QB's stats were:

27/37 for 247 yards, no TO's and 90.7 rating, would you take it? There is no doubt he/KOC needs to get better, but this isn't a SB roster anyway so I'm just going to try and enjoy the little things. Hell, Jones looks like he has about 2 more carries in him before his leg falls off and there is nobody behind him. Teasley has a lot of work to do in the offseason. It's really a shame because the D and ST's are pretty damn good.

I wonder if KOC’s offense is faltering so badly because he is over-tapering ‘his’ system to someone contradictory to dropback non-creative types like Cousins Darnold that fit so well. They were KOC regurgitators, Murray wants to spit out his own Murray cud.

Cousins worked but was not THE plan because of our outrageous financial relationship.

Darnold was not the plan. Or at least, Darnold was signed as a placeholder to buy time. Then he vastly outplayed expectations into Cousins type money … after we had already launched our grandiose cap friendly draft plan.

Bargain non-franchisable Murray was brought in as the probable temporary starter … with a shotty, up and down resumé that was still much stronger than Darnold’s but … it was made purely on the physical characteristics that Cousins Darnold are missing.

Now, doctoral candidate KOC has to rewrite the thesis he made to get him into the program.

Hammer, meet nail. The "KOC is the QB whisperer" narrative is a bunch of bullshit. KOC has a one size fits all approach to the offense and the QB position in particular. Cousins and Darnold were good QB's who's playing style was a great scheme fit. KOC thinks the scheme is so good that any QB should be able to come in and assimilate. Murray is being force fed the whole playbook in a short period of time just the way Dobbs and McCarthy were. They weren't good scheme fits and KOC doesn't know how to adapt the scheme to what his QB's can actually do. Murray and JJ will never be elite, but they are capable of more than KOC got out of them.

Good post Jeff. Agree Murray's 4th quarter gives some hope. A little bit. That's literally all that is left.

But considering the opponent, Murray's stats are not all that. Didn't even break 7 ypa (6.6). No TDs is simply bad. 73% completion percentage is good until you peel back the onion. The previous two QBs went 40-46, 533 yards , 4 TDs, 1 Int. Cousins wasn't all that in game 1 but that was his first game with a new team but he still put up 3 TDs.

But again, a sliver of hope. What else is can a person do besides that.

100%. I'm just hoping that his 4th quarter is a bit of "he's getting it". Not relying on because I don't really trust KOC anymore, but hoping.

"Viking HC Kevin O’Connell said Donovan Jackson will likely be out for the rest of the season after tearing his meniscus. He’ll need surgery to repair the injury.
Jackson was having a career year with the Vikings only allowing 2 pressures. No sacks or hits allowed. He had truly taken the next step to being a franchise guard.
This is a massive loss for the Vikings and this hurts. Especially for an offense that’s already been mediocre."

If we could get to this with some consistency... this team would be DANGEROUS

https://packaged-media.redd.it/czm7k3o7uoth1/pb/m2-res_714p.mp4?m=DASHPlaylist.mpd&var=sgpssan&v=1&e=1791244800&s=7adf67e5a45dc8ebac6aeb2ba10a1f3516d88a9b

(i suppose the OL would have to not fall apart as well... D Jackson injury is pretty devastating)

The NFL confirmed today that line judge Jeff Seeman has been suspended for two games and referee Adrian Hill has been suspended for one game, each for an instance of unprofessional conduct toward a player in Sunday’s Arizona-New York Giants (Seeman) and Miami-Minnesota games (Hill). The suspensions were issued by NFL Vice President of Officiating Ramon George.

I think the main ref should've got more. Total idiot!

In his press conference today, Kevin O’Connell told reporters that Darrisaw is now in the league’s concussion protocol, putting his status for Sunday’s game in New Orleans in doubt.

I would imagine he'll be ruled out for the game - especially with the bye the following week.

Darrisaw had a concussion in 2022, tried to come back the next week (after a bye I think) then got concussed again in that game and missed two additional games.

Currently the Vikings ranks on Offense:

• Total Yards Per Game - 32nd (Last)

• Passing Yards Per Game - 32nd (Last)

• Offensive DVOA (efficiency) - 30th

• Third Down Conversion - 31st

We've protected the ball and run more, mid pack on Rushing Yards Per Game - which are both very good things and a bit of a change from the past.

It's been 23 games since this offense has looked good, prior to Darnold's last regular season game against Detroit.

The offense was a little more conservative in the red zone. They wanted to ensure the points and not force anything against an inferior opponent. When the Dolphins drove down and scored they followed up with a great drive that stalled due to a loss on the ground followed by Murray's poor throw that Jones had to catch off his laces.

Bummer about Jackson. Hopefully Darrisaw can be fine after the bye. He's been unlucky, the knee injury in LA back in 2024 was a fluke while they were simply trying to run out the clock and yesterday's injury was not your typical OLinemen injury.

He's currently 3rd odds on favorite at 10-1 to win DPOY behind Will Anderson 4-1 and TJ Watt 7-1. I think he deserves to be first but the others have a bit more media hype.

More ammunition that Hock did exactly the right thing.

quote:

Kneel-down fumbles are exceptionally rare: analysis of over 5000 NFL kneel-downs since 2000 found zero fumbles, with the play design (QB kneeling immediately, backs flanking) minimizing risk to near zero; lost fumbles leading to defeat are virtually unheard of.

I believe it was the Gophers that fumbled the victory formation play vs Michigan this past weekend. They recovered it but they did fumble the snap.

Amateur football. It’s literally never happened in the Pro Game.

The Vikings have massive injuries on both sides of the ball and people wanted Hockenson to extend the game by running in a feel good score? Why expose the defense to unnecessary plays? Take the knee. Take the win. 100% the right move.

As much as the offense sucks and I want to see a damn touchdown it was absolutely the right move. Also saved Hockenson from a hit even though he scores fairly easily. No question it was the smart play.

There was a split second when my inability to divide the remaining time by the play clock when I said WTF...then it was...oh wait...never mind.
