The minimum thing the Vikings need to do is win the games they are supposed to win. They have done that so far even if it is ugly. The Saints game is one they are supposed to win. In the past, the Vikings seemed to lose games they were supposed to win.

If the Vikings are going all-in on being a defense-first team, a critical part of that strategy is to keep the other teams offense off the field to rest your defense to make your defense even stronger. Time of possession matters if you have a weak offense and a strong defense. Last year the Vikings were 30th in time of possession. This year so far they are 4th in time of possession. Even though the offense has not scored a lot of points, it has had the ball for a long time.

The Vikings offense is decimated by injuries. They have top-tier linemen replaced by marginal/charitably unproven players. This will hurt their running game. They have only one old healthy running back. JJ and Addison are hurt and even if they play they will be limited. JJ's (ankle) and Addison's (hamstring) injuries affect the greatest attribute of both--their speed. The other WRs are marginal or unproven. Also, Oliver is out so Literally the only catching "threat" is Hockenson who will be blanketed now that everyone knows he is Kyler's security blanket.

On a positive note, the Saints have a horrible defense.

I don't think they are going all-in on defense first, nor have a defense-first strategy. The cap space allocations to offense vs defense this year and next don't suggest that; throw in the hypothetical of paying a QB and the ratio could be quite lopsided. Although the top/key draft positions this past year were defense.

Rather, it seems simple on-field performance so far has led to the defense being good (although it has faced three crappy offenses and the Bears in the rain) while the offense is a bottom feeder (but went wild in Game 1 vs GB).

Time of possession is skewed high because our TOP vs Miami was almost 40 minutes. Take out that anomaly and we are mid-ranked at 30-31 minutes a game.

win or lose, if kyler murray doesn't look like a top 20ish quarterback on sunday he's gone...teasley will make a deal for someone better, not a huge deal like justin herbert or mac jones, but someone like geno smith or kirk cousins...we'll pay a 3rd for cousins, a workable running back, a workable center/guard, and a 5th rounder....

Why would the Raiders trade Cousins right now? They are 3-1.

Yeah winning teams aren’t exactly looking to blow things up midseason.

And neither should the Vikings by the way. The sky isn’t exactly falling here. They are 4-0 with stellar defense, and special teams and an offense that’s taking time but showed signs of clicking in the 2nd half vs Miami, despite some key injuries.

Usually mid season trades come at a premium. Colts traded to frp's for what looks like a washed Sauce Gardener. Ravens just gave up a bevy of picks for a utility olineman.

Sometimes it's best to just stay the course.
