You are absolutely right. Banks is a freak of nature. Once he gets up to speed he will be much more impactful.

Strange how developing JJM is the flavor of the week. He just had three months of development time, and it can be argued he has regressed.

Moreover, here is the Mon to Sat schedule of events between NFL games. Dude needs a TON of work, so when is this 'development time'? I think what is really being said is play JJM. Does anyone believe KOC - or any HC - would elevate his #3 QB to #1 after a week? He would be a national laughingstock.

Monday:
Recovery and Film Review Body care: Players focus on physical recovery, getting medical treatments, and working with physical therapists to heal bumps and bruises from Sunday's game.
Watching tape: Players do a light film review of the previous game to see what went right and what went wrong.
Coaches work: Coaches quickly grade the previous game and begin scouting the next opponent to build a new game plan.

Tuesday: The Day Off (for Players)
Mandatory rest: The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) guarantees players a day completely off from mandatory team activities to rest.
Coaches grind: Coaches spend the day locked in meetings finalizing the week's strategic game plan and practice scripts.

Wednesday: Install Day

JJM needs work on his accuracy, fastballs, pocket presence, recognition, footwork, maturity, protecting himself, telling KOC what he saw, not playing when called on, etc.

Good luck developing that! Maybe carve out some time on the flights or during curfew?!

I also think he is a now a total head case. The first stop in his development plan needs to be with a psychiatrist.

absolutely, positively, banks is not in nfl shape...with all he's been through over the last 12 months nobody would be....

ease him into the season, no pressure, no rush...embrace the realization that next season is the time we'll cut him loose....

If that was the route to go they would have steered the off season that way.

You don't go from battling for #1, flopping so bad you land at #3, then elevated to #1, after the #2 comes off the bench and wins.

In what world does that make sense?

I would surmise none of the QBs will LEAD the team to a playoff victory.

So with week 1 barely in the books, don't give the #1 QB a chance but give the #3 QB a chance? Not just a chance, but the entire season? Is it safe to say you never agreed with JJM being the #3 QB?

Lots of football left... he'll probably have his chance via misfortune.

Some people see JJM as a complete wilcard, and well you never know …

The panic button is a hope for something unknown or unexpected to swoop in and save the day.

Meanwhile, the braintrust obviously tried like hell to push JJMs development over the offseason but it fell well short of actual playing time.

Because, as you say, unless everbody drops out injured, there’s no chance for him to see meaningful reps and be more ready. You don’t put him in there by choice.

IMO people that want to insert JJM now … want to save the fire alarm at the expense of the building.

we don't know what mccarthy was feeling at that time...it's not fair to make that your driving argument...all of his teammates have said nothing but glowing praise about him - a great leader...at that moment, it just wasn't right for him...an exhibition game....

In the copy and paste portion of your post, that's certainly not my driving argument as there are a half dozen other problematic issues with him that rank higher.

The glowing praise... what are they going to say? And not all of his teammates heaped such praise on this great leader. Justin Jefferson for one said, in translated teammate-speak, his fastballs were difficult to catch, etc.

If he was healthy enough to play and he said that shit, KOC should have cut his ass on the spot.

As far as "at that moment, it just wasn't right for him", I'd expand that to his entire time in Minnesota.

So before week 2 the team should anoint an oft-injured and recently appointed #3 QB who is full of flaws the starting QB job for the entire season to see if he is worth anything by directly bypassing the recently named #1 and #2 QBs, all the while developing him even though there is no time to develop him and a month ago said #3 QB refused to go into a game.

Refusing to play isn't what I'd call great leadership. The kid needs reps and should have been out there. Pretty tough to develop a player that's hurt all the time and when healthy didn't feel like playing.

JJM's a bitch for refusing to play, Murray is always hurt, Wentz is JAG;.....blah blah blah

It all doesn't matter, IMO. I've been a fan of this team since I was born into it on a small farm in MN.

We used to bitch about Denny and his lack of DB success. I'm right there with KOC and his lack of QB success. I really like him as the leader of the team, but this is getting ridiculous. The QB whisperer is going into week 2, of year 7, without an answer at QB? That's not bad luck, that's a trend. What's the new answer?

1. Draft another guy (we saw how that played out)?
2. Hope that the Chargers give up on Herbert and you strike some sort of gold?
3. Ditto with Burrow??
4. Take another flyer on some flunky veteran?

I wouldn't be worried if Murray just got hurt while looking good. I feel for him, but he sucked in there along with the first play being a run right in to Fries ass for the first play of the year. Holy cow, I get it, it's early but man, some things change and some things stay the same.

Kyler and Wentz are NOT the future of the franchise. PERIOD.

This team is going nowhere with either of them this year. PERIOD.

Wild card? First round playoff loss again? So what?! And at the end of the year we have the same QB problem.

JJM may not be the QBOTF. But we drafted him in the first. He's 23. Let's see if he can play NFL QB.

As far as winning the SB, this is a waste of a year with Kyler and Wentz. So why not see if we have anything with this kid. If not, then burn it all down and start fresh in the QB room next year. What's the downside? We don't lose in the first round cuz we go 8-9? Upside is we know if he can play....and what if we find out he is salvageable....

Won't happen cuz KOC is coaching for his job and he's gonna go with the vet. Typical principal/agent problem. And a little cowardice....
