If things go like I hope, he can stay the #3 for 17+ games.

The team could scratch out a handful of wins with JJM but then you're stuck with another no playoffs/wins again for Jefferson/KOC - just to find out for sure. When you already know.

I erred saying the #1-3 QB lineup was decided a month ago. It was finalized on Sept 9, exactly one week ago.

So for the folks who want the team to hand the keys to the season to JJM, what was your reaction to that decision announced a week ago? Any why, within a week, do you want the QB lineup literally flipped?

Perhaps you've seen enough of Murray. All of three passes. And enough of Wentz. All of three touchdowns. They are not worldbeaters (and that's the last time I'll add that disclaimer), but what in your mind changed?

That's totally cool and understandable that you don't want to start JJM. I get it.

My only point is that Kyler and Wentz are known commodities. They stink. Playing them at QB this year is like most of the seasons for the last 30+ years: playing a retread/rented QB all for nothing. I couldn't care less. I've seen this show enough already to get excited about it. Hey, if we get a Lombardi trophy this year with these clowns, I'll eat a huge helping of crow.

Yes, as an armchair GM I would play JJM, but realize that in the real business of this, that won't happen, for supportable reasons.

Near term prediction:

Week 2: Brosmer elevated to emergency QB. Bears put up a lot of points, forcing Wentz to pass while facing heavy blitzing. 15% chance he is injured. If so, JJM comes in and doesn't move the needle in limited action. 3% chance he too gets injured in which case Brosmer enters and is overwhelmed. Teasley's fears are confirmed.

Week 3, Whirling dervish Murray returns.

We'd have to cut somebody from the roster to do that. We filled Mason’s spot by signing DeeJay Dallas from the practice squad to the active roster.

Ah, ok. Just read the emergency QB has to already be part of the 53 man roster.

Guess they go with two. Brosmer isn't worth a roster subtraction.

Kyler and Wentz are NOT the future of the franchise. PERIOD.

This team is going nowhere with either of them this year. PERIOD.

Wild card? First round playoff loss again? So what?! And at the end of the year we have the same QB problem.

JJM may not be the QBOTF. But we drafted him in the first. He's 23. Let's see if he can play NFL QB.

As far as winning the SB, this is a waste of a year with Kyler and Wentz. So why not see if we have anything with this kid. If not, then burn it all down and start fresh in the QB room next year. What's the downside? We don't lose in the first round cuz we go 8-9? Upside is we know if he can play....and what if we find out he is salvageable....

Won't happen cuz KOC is coaching for his job and he's gonna go with the vet. Typical principal/agent problem. And a little cowardice....

I think it is simple....JJM needs to sit for a few games for a reset; now the health or performance of Carson and Kyler may change this.

Now when it comes to QBs in MN---it has been a curse that hasn't been broken yet.

JJM needs to sit a few games to reset from not playing?

Best case scenario. Yes. When has he ever been benched when healthy in his life?

Although if Wentz gets injured Sunday? JJM gets ready to go in and the team says nah, we don't feel like playing you. The irony is off the charts.

Considering the Statue of Liberty moves more than Wentz, JJM might see action this Sunday.

McCarthy had suffered what was initially described as a minor ankle injury against Baltimore the previous week.

Monday Aug. 24: mccarthy - limited practice

Tuesday Aug. 25: mccarthy - limited practice

Wednesday Aug. 26: the coaching staff intentionally held mccarthy completely out...o'connell says they're resting the ankle specifically in hopes mccarthy can start friday...“We're gonna give him a rest day today to see if we can put the ankle behind him.”

Thursday Aug. 27: travel day to denver

Friday Aug. 28: mccarthy doesn't play...o'connell says afterward they had intended mccarthy to start and play roughly the first half, but “couldn't get him there.”

I still contend that KOC and JJM just don't jive. One (if not both) of their personalities don't mesh. It's probably a combo but my guess:

KOC doesn't like to be challenged too much. It's his offense. Guys like Kirk and Darnold seem like the type of guys to just say "OK". The others were journeymen who didn't have the history to even try

JJM is a spoiled brat who's never been told no.

In the end, I have no real idea, but it seems off and I don't mean on the field stuff.

Couldn't get him in there. LOL!

Fine. Now about his lack of fundamentals, poor footwork, slow processing, fastballs, nonavailability, jump passes, sailing passes, inability to protect himself, poor play, etc. He unfortunately showed all of these in the preseason. That's why he was demoted to #3. That is, at best, where he belongs.

The charade needs to end. Fortunately, Teasley could give two squirts JJM was a #10 overall pick because it wasn't on his watch. He likely views it as a sunk cost.

I think Zygi steps in and says we keep getting media attention and not the good kind. Trade him for another boom/bust, straight up.

As bad as the throws to the right, foot work, etc. have been....he has to learn to protect himself or he has no chance of playing----basically the only way to see if he can get better is for him to be available.
I would be afraid of him walking 18 on a golf course....he just gets hurt way too often.

Guys that can't play or even practice due to injuries have to be the most frustrating for a coach.

Oh I for sure think KOC is not a JJM fan.

Sidebar: replace Kyler's snaps last week with JJM. What would the narrative be?

Sorry man, I have no interest in Kyler being QB1. I wouldn't have even signed him.

o'connell cannot call in-game offensive plays...simple as that...he's a complete failure at in-game play calling...never did it before we hired him...lesson for wilfs: don't hire a head coach that also does the in-game play calling because you can't fire that guy without firing the head coach....

o'connell's preference has always been; pure progression, long developing pass plays...his quarterbacks have to sit back in the pocket waiting for the plays to develop, and when they're doing that, they've got these huge monsters trying to rip their heads off....

our qbs got injured last season, and it's not going well this season....

o'connell calls shitty running plays, and doesn't even like to call any running plays...why would he start aron jones?...why would he run mason off-tackle?...he likes murray because he can't play under center, and that means more passing plays....

o'connell thinks mccarthy needs to grow up because he went to the hospital for the birth of his child...o'connell could have moved the activities on that wednesday, to thursday, so mccarthy could be there to practice, but no, then he wouldn't get to pout about it...and it was for a home game....

o'connell thinks mccarthy needs to grow up because he did the 'griddy' while running in for a score against dallas... jefferson does the griddy every td....

o'connell thinks mccarthy needs to grow up because he called/calls himself nine (9)...jefferson calls himself 'jets', but he's not immature....

Yea, you make a good point about Murray…

This Quarterback Room, is 100% on the HMFIC.

These guys are all hand picked, 100% on KOC.

It’s not like he is a first year coach dealing with a roster and personnel that he had no influence or decisions upon the “53”

KOC is not an NFL caliber winner.

Nor is/was Murray.
Ever.

Like usual, it was slim pickings for QBs early this offseason. Assuming they were not going to pay much for any of these QBs, looks like a lot of coin flipping. Murray's $1.2 million contract certainly factored in if everything else was equal.

Top Quarterback Free Agents, March 2026

Daniel Jones: Landed with the Indianapolis Colts on a major deal.
Malik Willis: Agreed to a multi-year contract with the Miami Dolphins.
Aaron Rodgers: Explored the open market as a veteran option.
Kirk Cousins: Signed with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Kyler Murray: Signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings.

Other notable names: Geno Smith, Russell Wilson, Marcus Mariota, and Joe Flacco.

We got to this place because Kwesi mismanaged the cap and, whether due to strategy or happenstance, decided to go the draft route at QB. JJM and Nix were available. Who liked or did not like JJM is speculative.

It's realistic Brzez said KOC can pick from the QB FAs this past March, but he needs to be on the cheap.

It's likely all 3 QBs will play this year yet none of them will be on the roster next year.

Beyond that, enjoy the circus!

The Athletic:

Turner submitted the best performance of his career in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers. His 10 quarterback pressures led all NFL pass rushers. Next Gen Stats tracks quick pressures, which represent the number of quarterback pressures a player accumulates within 2 1/2 seconds. Turner tallied seven, also a league high.

The advanced metrics validate Turner’s burst. It took him 0.72 seconds to cross the line of scrimmage after the ball was snapped in the game, according to Next Gen Stats, a figure that would have ranked second in the NFL in 2025 behind only Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett.

O’Connell said Wednesday that when the players voted on team captains, Turner received a bevy of votes, which speaks to his day-to-day disposition on the practice field. Earlier this week, Flores told an anecdote about Turner approaching him after practice last week, asking if he seemed to be on the right track. Turner’s willingness to seek feedback underscored his pursuit.

“He’s still young,” Vikings outside linebackers coach Thad Bogardus said this week. “There are rookies older than he is.”

Wouldn't it be great to be a fly in the wall and know exactly how we got to where we are now (starting 5 years ago).
All we do know is that Flores wasn't going to stay as long as Kwesi was GM.

I expected the Lions and Packers to take a step back, that the division was the Bears', unless the Vikings managed to challenge for it.
