Thinking about it, even just a nice "regular" dinner out is at least a 2 hour experience. Sit at the table have a drink, order apps, brief respite, leisurely main course, brief respite, dessert and coffee - which usually is a good 30 minute+ diversion.

Sure if we go to a taco truck or for a bowl of Pho, we might be in and out in 15-20 minutes. A regular sushi place might only be 30-60 minutes.

Yes, I absolutely can sit and talk to good friends for 4 hours without even noticing the time going by. Or playing cards, for example, no problem.

But eating for that long? I understand that they are small courses that are staggered, but that really would make me crazy.

One of the things I like to say as my retort to people who drink heavily or use "other" drugs is that I have such good friends who are so much fun to be with that I don't need to be high to have a good time. ZING! But while we're together we might typically start with dinner, then continue talking while playing games, maybe doing one of those painting nights out (everyone paints some fun scene based on the example the instructor shows you), or some other fun activity - - - but to keep having food put in front of you to me just sounds brutal. Maybe it's just because I haven't tried it, I'll give you that.

There is generally drinking involved in restaurants too.

You are living the dream, David. Food, booze, and family. It doesn't get much better than that.

The key is to not drink so much that it doesn't matter if you're at a Michelin star restaurant or a Taco Bell.

My wife and I really like doing wine and food pairings. It is a little hard with kids, though.

Nonsense! Kids go great with a nice French Pinot Noir. It really brings out the sweetness of the child.

Does anyone know if gift wrapping paper is recyclable?

Many types of gift wrapping paper are not recyclable. For example, the shiny laminated paper version is not. Also, types with foil or glitter is not recyclable. Most ribbons aren't either.

Different recycling centers may have different policies, so if in doubt, contact your local center to find out what types they may or may not accept.

update - Doh I just realized that I responded to a post on page 1 of the thread. Somehow it jumped back there when I thought I was on the latest page.

Whew, and not a moment too soon. But now I have to sort through 27 piles of the stuff just to find the recyclables.

But seriously - thanks for the info bgdavis. Always trying to be as green as we can here.
