Does someone cook for you (favorite meal?) on your BDay or do you go out?

Lisa cooks for me all the time (or we cook together) during the year, so birthday's we go out for big time meals.

Unless I'm on vacation I'd just as soon stay in any more. Partly money, partly social.

We can get pretty good bang for the buck on my favorite meal. Rib steak with melted cheese and Heinz 57 sauce. (steak lovers with a collective cringe) Escargot with garlic and cheese. Re-stuffed baked potato with garlic, cheese, and jalapeno. If it's a good year some shrimp in garlic butter.

That's almost last meal worth to me. Minus the lobster and crab.

This was my birthday meal this year. I don't think I've ever been so full...

That would be neat.

Does everyone get the same dinner service or is there an option a/b/c?

There are smaller tasting menus, and some individual dishes, but barring allergies, the full tasting menu is as-is (and changes daily). So you each get all 19 things on the menu. Its a 4-5 hour experience.

(not to mention starting with the bread cart and ending with the dessert one):

I HAVE to know what that was like. I'm jealous like you would never believe!

Degustation is a culinary term meaning a careful, appreciative tasting of various foods and focusing on the gustatory system, the senses, high culinary art and good company. Dégustation is more likely to involve sampling small portions of all of a chef's signature dishes in one sitting.

That's the place!

It was amazing. Each course isn't big, but they add up. After about 10, you're thinking, "man, I could do this all night!", by 15 or 16, you're like "OMG, there is still more coming". By the time we finished the menu desserts, we were too stuffed to eat much from the dessert cart, so they filled a bag with about 5 pounds of the desserts and gave it to us along with an entire homemade lemon poundcake.

Probably a toss-up with The French Laundry in Napa (where we went for Lisa's birthday) as the two best meals of my life.

I like how your purse picks up the black in your shirt; not everyone operates to that level of detail.

Nice color coordination on the wardrobe.

Seriously, I'm sure it was a great time. Did you see any celebrities (other than your wife)? Looks like something out of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.

I don't think there were any celebs there, but next time we go (I think in August as we found out last week one of Lisa's friends can get us comps), we're going to try to leave a B&W photo of us in a frame like all the others and see how long it lasts....

Yeah, I'm guessing me and my "I'm with stoopid" t-shirt (arrow pointing straight up) wouldn't be allowed in that joint!

I just like the shirt. If you want to project meaning onto it, that's your thing.

2 slices of 45 cal multi-grain bread, slab of braunschweiger, slice of cheddar, mayo, mustard, horseradish, slice of tomato.

Now THAT'S a meal!

Edit: sorry I forgot the pic.

Speaking of food...

Lisa has the day off from the WSOP, so she went down to our favorite Asian Market and picked out a live fish and she just made a Vietnamese Hot and Sour Fish Soup for our lunch.

Its ridiculous.
