This is the Caps team I've expected many many many times come playoffs
First time they've gotten it right
Hmmmmmm
Think of any other team that's been pretty good but underachieved in the playoffs?
Hope for us?
Dreaming?

No chance brother

Their overpaid superstar scores goals. Boat loads of them. Our overpaid "superstars" say 'thanks' when they get crosschecked in the crease and think their S doesn't stink when they go 4-18 on FO's that night.

Their overpaid goalie makes game changing saves and wins Vezina's. Our overpaid "goalie" tricked a dumb, now unemployed GM, to sign him to a contract we will not get out of (until it expires) because he's a big human.

Vegas ties the series at 1-1 and heading home with a chance to make a bigger statement. I didn't see the whole game, but what I saw Vegas looked really good.

They matched everything the Jets threw at them.
And then some.

If Haula didn't still have "Wild fever" ..... he'd score three a game.
The guy is a flat-out playah
The fact he had to beg for time here still makes my blood boil.

Probably my biggest all-time mea culpa goes to Marc Andre-Fleury
I ripped him for years
Thought he was Pitts biggest liability
The guy is a tremendous goalie. I was DEAD WRONG.
He's been so much fun to watch.
Competes to the death. Refuses to lose. Upset when he does.

Ning played to their full capabilities last night. This could get interesting.

That elite squad I talked about ... showed up

The reports of the Nings early demise were greatly exaggerated.

Backs against the wall, and they responded
More great attributes you only see in other teams.

HUGE one tonight in Vegas.
Winner of this one takes a HUGE step forward.

.... which immediately shot twelve angry texts out of my phone to my hockey friends ....
I didn't even have to write them, it just did it on its own.

Very very fun series

These are two really good teams.

Vegas's only clear advantage is in goal, imo

LOVED LOVED LOVED seeing Schiefele get STOMPED for running the goalie.
Winnipeg just thinks 'I'm goin to the net" and they think no one has the right to make them pay.
Oh he paid last night, he paid.
And in true respectful hockey fashion, you tip your hat that he scored on a couple.
he's a beast, a beast that needs to be stood up to once in awhile.

Should be a very interesting night in Washington.

What a set of games, so far. I hope that the jets and the lightning come out on top, but it really does not matter to me. I just want to see some great hockey, and we have it in spades so far! P.S., hedman and fleury are really good players.

How typical of the Caps
Just cannot do anything the easy way
TBs skill is becoming apparent
And it helps that Vasilevsky woke up
he's the protypical big athete in goal who covers a LOT of net

Vasi is hard to figure out. He'll be solid as hell and then go all Dubnyk for a game or 2.

I actually watched the whole game - probably the first full hockey game I've seen in a long, long time.

Its like a different sport than what the Wild play...

and .... that speed and that style ... at least in Vegas's case, is DRIVEN by two guys that our braintrust would not trust, and would barely even allow, to play.

I try to watch Wild games and I drift in and out of paying attention. They become background while I'm doing something else.

But watching the Knights, there is a real feeling like you're going to see a goal at any moment. Every turnover feels like its going to lead to something, and you hold your breath every time it looks like there is even a chance at a shot on goal.

I wish I felt like that about the Wild. I'd watch them more. And I don't have the Hockey background growing up to really appreciate the game beyond the surface. My family were die-hard Vikings, Gopher Basketball, Twins fans (in that order). Other than 90-91, I don't remember watching a full North Stars game (but we bought the PPVs for those...)

So do they. It has always been that way. They are too 'nice'. The only franchise dumb enough to name a kid from Finland captain before he stepped foot on the ice based on his brothers success. Which, btw, was not even all that successful. It was all a mirage to try and give the young franchise some level of BS identity that was forced.

That wasn't even the worst part. As dumb as it was, the fact that they've stood by that dumb decision for a decade, is far more mind blowing.

It may be petty and immature of me, but I loved seeing Buffalo Butt have a bad game and get frustrated.

HA-HA!!

Stew on that dirt-bag!

The problem with this team is, and has always been, the core. Since it's inception the team has always had a mediocre, at best, core set of guys. Instead of fixing the broken core they have always tried to put guys around it to mask their deficiencies.

1. Couldn't score outside of Gaborik - draft playmakers that didn't pan out
2. Didn't have a valid goalie - get Manny and Roli and that didn't pan out
3. Ran in to a team that beat the shit out of us - sign Simon
4. Can't get past the Hawks because they are too fast and skilled - bring in a bunch of smurfs and that didn't pan out
5. Goalie sucks again - try to hope that the lightning strike wasn't a fluke - sign Dubnyk to years of money down the drain
6. The newly formed smurf team doesn't get the Hawks this time but a much bigger/stronger team - get rid of the smurfs and bring in bigger role players.....

It just never ends. Look, I love the fact that CF would try things but, to me at least, he never had an actual plan. He would just throw shit against the wall to see what would stick. All the while never actually addressing the real problem. The core of the team.

You signed a bad offensive player, in 9, to a big contract a couple times because he was dependable defensively and could win a FO once in awhile. Yippee. You singed Parise to an insane contract given his size/play style. I was geeked on July 4th that year but also knew that would bite us in the ass down the road. I just had hope it would payoff before hand. It hasn't.

The Suter contract...not as bad as he's still pulling his weight but still not a great contract given the way the game was evolving to more skilled Dmen.

BTW- I've stayed away from Vegas games because it pisses me off but I watched last night. I can say, without a doubt, that Tuch would be our best PF by miles. Another great decision by CF

I watched as well last night and have found a new team to follow. I'm now a Vegas Knights fan and will be until the Wild actually do something to improve.
As Jeff has pointed out though, CF has handcuffed this team for years to come, so I don't expect any changes any time soon.
