Haula has JUMP to his game
Its not coachable and its rare.
Wild games were different that he was allowed to play in.
We all saw it.

Tuch is the ultimate watch-out-if-this-guy-gets-it guy.

I remember right from the start, you and I said to watch for Haula because he was going to have a better career than his more famous Gopher teammates at the time Bjugstad and Rau.

As it relates to the Wild, I'm more pissed off than most at the coaches.
Yeo and BB BOTH, imo, did not see what they had in Haula or Tuch.
They can say all they want, someone was holding back the reins on both of them.
Tuch barely got a sniff, even after they'd see his potential in training camps.
Haula is the biggest snafu. He DID produce, He DID fit in, he DID put out.
But the coaches limited his PT. And his duties.
He does it all in Vegas.
Anyone with a hockey brain saw that here. He's the ultimate crescent wrench player. He can do any duty IF ALLOWED.
Can score
Can check
Can skate
Can defend
Can kill penalties
Can play power play
They treated him here like he was lucky to have a job. It was BULLSHIT right from the start. And most in here saw it early on.

That appears to be the case with a lot of the Knights.

At least paying attention from the periphery, it seems like a lot of guys finally got chances to play and CRUSHED their career numbers.

Bingo
You can really hit the jackpot in this situation
And they have
Marchessault, Haula, Schmidt, Karlsson, hell even Fleury to an extent ... feel like they are getting the chance to spread their wings

Yup, he gave off the "his game will work on ANY level" vibe right from the start with the Gophs

The Caps move on to see if they can derail Vegas for the Cup. I really like Vegas, but I think I would rather see Ov8 get a championship before a brand new expansion team.

I'm still fuming over the way the expansion draft was handled. There is no way an expansion team should be in the Stanley Cup finals or the championship series of any sport in its inaugural year.

Did the NHL change the rules for Vegas in the expansion draft?

Oh D'oh!!

Yeah,

I'd like to see Ovie and Oshie win, but I don't think they can keep up with LV.

Jets vs Knights

The west hierarchy has really changed.
Two very fast teams.
I hate the jets, but man, they simply dominated the Preds for long stretches.
I hate to admit it but they're simply damn good. And I've been harping about Vegas all year. I should like them but don't.
but they certainly play like I'd like to see our team play.

Vegas in 7

Ning vs Caps

Like both these teams. they've been my east favorites every year, after we get beat out.
Hoping the Caps are NOT satisfied after dumping their 500 pound gorilla.
Tampa is elite. Skill everywhere, Don't always show it, but they have it.
Should be fun, physical, and really rewarding for one of them.

Lightning in 7

1-1
Loved being right on the Knights, just didn't trust them enough
Happy to be wrong about the Capitals
I'm in a great mood for the Finals.
But it does suck that I don't "hate" either team.
Makes it more interesting in many ways.

Capitals vs Knights

Hoping for a long, fun series.
Two opposite ends of the spectrum, but both are looking to make history.
Great to see two new teams involved.
Will definitely be Vegas's speed vs Washington's will power and size.
Like we always say in here, and it keeps playing out.
May the best tender win.
Might be the best two of the lot left.  NO surprise. Holtby has turned it on when needed. Fleury has been phenomenal.
Can both keep it up? That's why we watch.

my heart says ...
CAPITALS IN SIX

my brain says
VEGAS IN SIX

A pretty good period of hockey to start the finals in Vegas, but I can do without the hokey pregame show.

Pretty good night for sports. Stanley Cup Finals and game 7 of the Western Conference Finals (ie. same as NBA Finals because Cavs will not win vs either)

I think I enjoy the hockey more, though.

Vegas buzzsaw just keeps on going and takes game one in a fast paced, high scoring game. A fun game to watch, and even though the clowns in stripes missed a couple of obvious calls, they weren't much of a factor for a change.

After seeing how this has worked out for Vegas, what do you guys think the odds are there are some teams that will think twice before doing any trades, etc. with them? I suspect some GM's in the league feel as ripped off by the expansion draft as some fans feel.

And now that f***ing idiot Bettman says Seattle can expect the same kind of deal as Vegas. Is there a worse commissioner in any sport in any country? Hopefully Fenton doesn't screw this up the way Fletch did.

OMG that was a fun game
Pulling for the Caps
They deserved better, but it is what it is
The missed/ignored crosschecks HAVE to stop, NHL. They have to stop.
Someone's going to get paralyzed.
You cannot say "didn't see it' when it happens ON THE DECIDING GOAL, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE NET
Everyone pissed at Wilson, pffffft ... THAT is what happens when one of your stars is being abused.
They wanted to maim Oshie, Wilson had seen enough. That is the case of players doing what refs won't.
Should be a great series
You'd like to think that with all those goals the tending was bad? It wasn't. Dooby would have given up double-digits.
Every rush is an adventure at this level.
What a great great great sport.

Good game last night. I agree with you on the play of Wilson. He hit a guy, shoulder to shoulder, maybe a little late, but right in front of the ref. No call was made at the time of the play. Some of the refs need to either be a lot more consistent with the calls, or someone is going to get Draper'd out there.

Lisa isn't a sports fan. She'll half watch Vikings games with me, but otherwise doesn't really care.

But she was yelling and screaming so much during last night's game, she was hoarse by the end. She already can't wait to order pizza and watch tomorrow's game.

This Vegas team might drag me kicking and screaming into being a hockey fan.

Its funny because I've never considered being a fan of any non-Minnesota team before. Ever. Not when I was living in LA and the Lakers were winning titles, just never. And there is a 0% chance of me being a Raiders fan in any way when they get here. Gross.

But I think the thing about the Knights is it doesn't feel like being a bandwagon, or late to the party fan. I predate the team by years - they came to MY state, I din't go to THEIRS. And I think a big part of the reason I never connected with the Wild is they started playing the year after I left Minnesota.

I don't think they play much hockey down there in Las Vegas, either. (I mean the general population) It feels painful to me that they should get a Stanley Cup and the State of Hockey still without one after all of these years. They seem to be great fans, though. They are enthusiastically supporting their team.

There is no way an expansion team should be able to draft a team good enough to play in the championship round of its sport. The expansion draft is supposed to provide the team with enough players to field a team while they go about the building process. Normally those players are divided between 2 expansion teams. This draft was ridiculous. Teams were forced to make real good players available to a single expansion entry. They could have at least given the teams an amnesty to make no trade / no move contracts available.

Some see this whole LV playoff run as a good thing. I don't. And the plan is to do it again with a new expansion team.

Fun game again.

The Caps were the crisper team tonight. Much better passing, much better job looking for each other. Their goals looked like much higher % chances than Vegas'.

Vegas seemed a bit sloppy and looked to be trying to score 1 on 1 more.

Amazing game clinching save by Holtby.

That was one heck of a save on Tuch, and I was happy to see it. As fun as the Knights story is, I find myself cheering for the Caps to take home the Cup. I won't be upset if either team wins, but my preference goes with the Caps. If the hockey gods are at all fair, Vegas should have to play more than one season before they get their names on the Cup!

Me too, st!

I called myself neutral going in, back can't help but root for the Caps as I watch.

After all, they are the under-dogs (in my mind at least).

Ovie and Oshie are both deserving, as is the whole team.
