Philly vs Boston
Never expected to see either team in the second rd, but here they are.
This will be fun, gritty, nasty, balls-out hockey between two teams that don't like each other and have tons of history.
Philly is rolling, and seem more dangerous to me.
Flyers in 6

Still going on. My Flyer pick is still do-able

Montreal vs Pittsburgh
Habs riding the proverbial hot goalie into Pittsburgh to take on the defending champs.
Pitt seems to be on cruise control at times.
Just can't see Montreal having enough in the tank to get this one done, too.
Penguins in 6

Glad to be wrong here. yes, Motreal DID have enough in the tank. Not counting them out of anything, they believe in each other completely.

Chicago vs Vancouver
All the makings of a great series.
Anything could happen here, with two fast clubs with big hopes.
Developing a pretty healthy rivalry here, this one will get really intereresting I hope.
Hawks in 7

Didn't take 7, and the better/faster/younger team definitely won.

San Jose vs Detroit
Maybe the best matchup.
Detroit just seems rested and tuned up.
San Jose is finally playing well and without pressure the last couple of games.
I never count Detroit out, even against a juggernaut like San Jose. Goaltending will be huge. And not a Detroit strength, imo.
Sharks in 7

Didn't take 7 here either, but ditto. Sure feels like the Sharks are ready to exorcise some old and nasty demons this year.

Nice post man!  Hit the nail on the head.

1.  Gonchar was head scratchingly brutal.  Did he hear a whistle on that goal?  He's not known as a loafer but wow.  That was disgraceful.

2.  Couldn't agree more about Cooke.  If we signed him I would be genuinely pissed off.

3.  It was weird watching that series.  It felt like "who do I root for, the ex-Gophers or the ex-Wild?".  It's a pretty mind boggling thought to think that Dupuis has a ring and MAB, BP and Moore are getting close, yet, we didn't make the playoffs????

4.  Fluery is brutal.  Always has been.  How he's not in Wilkes Barre....you tell me.  I  can't figure it out.

5.  Halak is playing great but he better keep his ass in the crease.  He stinks playing the puck.

Montreal fans loot stores to show their happiness:

Goligoski and Leo ended up playing a LOT for Pitt.
Btw .... no interest by the Wild in Leopold before the season started, yet he ends up playing big minutes for one of the league's best teams. Hmmm.
There still seems to be a little bias going on as far as keeping Gophers away from here.
We all knew JL would never give in to that, but I thought Richards would be different.

What's really cool is that they were paired together.

I'll be pretty disappointed soon if one or a couple of Wheeler/Vanek/Leo/Ballard/Goli/Niskanen/Oshie/Paulie Martin/Langenbrunner/etc.. don't end up back here. (while they are still viable)
Not speaking only of Gophs. Guys with local ties. Its a win/win for the org., imo.
No need to purposely shut guys like that out of here.
Some fit our needs perfectly.

Feeling great for Paul Holmgren and the Flyers tonight. Never, ever liked the Bruins franchise. Great to see a MN guy leading a strong playoff push.

Yep
Bunch of my young friends asked me this week, how can you pull for Philly?

They obviously were never around for the North Star wars with those pricks.
I hate Boston attitude.

Philly vs Montreal

Is this the '70s? Old-school, baby. Two all-timers going haed to head to get to the finals. Just don't see Philly beating Halak when Malkin and The Kid couldn't, but thats why we play 'em. Should be a fun, knock-em-down grind it out series. is it me or does Philly have a lot of ugly skaters? Must be the unis, because to me they look slow and clumsy, but they get to the net with a purpose. Good for the game, this will renew a great rivalry. Glad canada still has a flag flying, they need it.

Habs in 7

San Jose vs Chicago

Oooo, this is a tough one, imo. Both talented, both fast, the winner of it all comes out of this one I'm pretty sure. Chicago plays so damn well on the road, but so poorly at home. Just no way this thing doesn't go on and on and on. Could be the start of a great rivalry if both teams play well. Pretty evenly matched. I've been saying the Sharks are the most-talented all year, and I gotta stay with it. By the slimmest of margins.

Sharks in 7

Yep,

Montreal/San Jose Finals

I think the Sharks take The Cup in 5 games.

Excuse my ignorance, but where does "Habs" come from?

Kevin,

I had to look it up myself. This is what I found on Wikipedia:

quote:

The club is officially known as le Club de hockey Canadien.[1]
French nicknames for the team include Les Canadiens (or Le Canadien), Le Bleu-Blanc-et-Rouge, La Sainte-Flanelle,[2] Le Tricolore, Les Glorieux (or Nos Glorieux), Les Habitants, Le CH and Le Grand Club. In English, the team's main nickname is the Habs, an abbreviation of "Les Habitants". (Note: Even in English, the French spelling, Canadiens, is always used.)

A little known fact.  "Habs" in Canada also means "habitual POS' that the rest of the country despises but makes the Easterner's wear as a badge of honor, ala New Yorkers in the states".

Disclaimer.  I may have embellished that or made it up totally, but it's true.

Looks like I should have put some more thought into those picks.
Chicago looks faster, quicker, more dangerous, than the Sharks. Up 1-0 (but will have to see what happens in Chitown) Hawks play better on the road for some reason.
Philly dominating a sluggish Montreal squad. Never thought Philly could put 4 on the Halak Comet in one game.

Philly puts up 6

Went back and looked, and yep, Barry Melrose DID pick Chicago and Philly to play for the Cup.
Love that guy. So damn good for the game.
Said it before and will always say it .... he single-handedly has kept the game viable on ESPN.
I'm not sure they'd cover it otherwise.

Yeap.  Bucci used to be really good too but they've smothered him a bit and made him more mainstream.  I saw him covering BB the other day.
