Caps sign their Backstrom to a 10-year, $67 mil deal
He's good, he might not be THAT good.

It's a big gamble for sure.  He's only 22 (or 23, I forget) but he also plays on a line chalked full of studs.  Is his production a product of his surroundings?

The Flyer Steamroller keeps rolling.

Really thought Montreal would put up some goals on them, but they haven't even scored in two whole games. Sheesh!

Barf.  We are looking at a BH/Philly finals.  I'm not sure I would even watch that.

Hear ya.
This has quickly gone from awesome to awful, imo.
No interest in watching Chicago win a title.
They are still the "F-ing BlackHawks" to this old North Star fan.

Yeap, and I hate the Flyers just about as much.  Teams I hate in order

1.  Dallas
2.  Vancouver
3.  Chi
4.  Filthy
5.  Ducks
6.  Wings

Everyone else is ok in my book.  The Rangers, if not so pitiful of a franchise, would be up there too.

Sharks keep out-chancing the hawks and still keep losing.
Gonna suck seeing the Cup in Chicago before it ever gets to Minnesota.

Yeap.  That one was over as soon as chi stole the first out west.  They will steam roll either team in the west.  I'd be shocked if it wasn't a sweep.

Yuck.
Chicago/Philly series looming.
Won't be much a series, the speed difference looks immense.
Nice to see Chicago has developed that quality (with officials) that many of the "great" teams have enjoyed thru the years .... when they hold and impede, its good hockey, when their opponents do it, it's called interference/holding/hooking.
Det and Pitt come to mind.

A few weeks ago, Blues defenseman Erik Johnson took a picture of the bald spot on the top of Mike Weaver’s head and texted the picture to the rest of their teammates. Weaver promised to get Johnson back.

He did.

“The other day, I woke up at 7:30 (a.m.) and I got a phone call from this guy,” Johnson said. “He said, ‘I’m just calling about your Escalade that’s for sale on Craig’s List.’

“I said, ‘You have the wrong number . . . I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ Then I got to the rink a couple of hours later and I had four more voice mails from these strange people, calling about my Escalade.”

Weaver had put an advertisement on the popular website, hyping up the SUV. He even wrote that “Erik” was selling the vehicle for about $20,000 under the Blue book cost.

“Right away, I knew it was ‘Weaves,’ Johnson said. “He had a great description of the situation. He said that I was moving overseas and needed to sell the truck before I took my new job. I’m selling it for $20,000 cheaper. I had some pretty interesting voice mails.”

Philly vs Montreal

Is this the '70s? Old-school, baby. Two all-timers going haed to head to get to the finals. Just don't see Philly beating Halak when Malkin and The Kid couldn't, but thats why we play 'em. Should be a fun, knock-em-down grind it out series. is it me or does Philly have a lot of ugly skaters? Must be the unis, because to me they look slow and clumsy, but they get to the net with a purpose. Good for the game, this will renew a great rivalry. Glad canada still has a flag flying, they need it.

San Jose vs Chicago

Oooo, this is a tough one, imo. Both talented, both fast, the winner of it all comes out of this one I'm pretty sure. Chicago plays so damn well on the road, but so poorly at home. Just no way this thing doesn't go on and on and on. Could be the start of a great rivalry if both teams play well. Pretty evenly matched. I've been saying the Sharks are the most-talented all year, and I gotta stay with it. By the slimmest of margins.

Sharks in 7

Wrong
And Wrong Again.
Guess those were "hopes" more than predictions.
Certainly doesn't seem like much of a series, but Philly has been proving us all wrong all post-season.
The two "scrappiest" teams are left standing, imo. (good and bad)
Maybe they will knock each other out.
Just cannot see the Flyers hanging with Chicagos speed, youth, and talent. They should totally expose the Flyer defense.
If Philly doesn't take Game One or Two, it's over early.
We are running out of places who "have not won a Stanley Cup since" ....
The fact that the state of Minnesota has never hoisted it, is starting to irritate me.
Toews, Kane, and Big Buff run wild up front, and pound the puck. Was hoping hired-gun Hossa would never drink from Lord Stanley, but he is closer than he's ever been. And to think .... all Nashville had to do was hold on to the puck (when they had a PP and the lead) with a minute left a month ago, and the Blackhawks would not even be here!

Chicago in 5

Did any of you guys get a deja vu moment seeing a team that didn't belong beat 2 virtual powerhouses.  Then, they get to their conference finals and couldn't score to save their lives?  Sounds oddly familiar.

Yep
Wild/Ducks re-do.

That was one frustrating series ... most band-wagon fans were soooooo happy to be there, and I was screaming mad, we simply were pathetic offensively that whole series, and Giguere got all the credit.
He really never did a thing after that.

Thought the same thing re: the '03 Wild parallels with the '10 Habs.

My predictions have equally sucked.  Called Pens-Wings III in round 2 and Sharks-Habs in round 3.  Picking between Chicago and Philly is like trying to decide between shit or vomit...is there a scenario where neither can win?  Maybe a meteor strike or some sort of pandemic?

I hate to say but I gotta go Chicago.  As bad as Chicago fans are, nothing is worse than Philly fans.  That, and they have Pronger.  Simply put, I hate him more than any other person on the planet.

HBO with a sweet "Broad Street Bullies" documentary on these days, good timing.
Pretty interesting to see just how the play has changed/evolved.
Wild times. Lived thru 'em.
(got kicked out of Met Center for carrying in a "Broad Street Pussies" sign and holding it against the glass during warm-ups)

Interesting piece on the latest in equipment ideas ... the heated skate blade.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/otl/news/story?id=5182060

Sounds like we are very close to some teams giving it a try.
