Alright!
I'm calling bullshit on this ....
Some of these teams have played a couple times now, and Minnesota hasn't even been discussed.
heresy!
If one team should be a ntural for this, is should be us, dammit!

CHICAGO -- Sidney Crosby will take his skates outside for a day in Pittsburgh next season, and Calgary will host a game in the elements, too.
Commissioner Gary Bettman announced Friday that the Penguins will host the Washington Capitals at Heinz Field on New Year's Day, the fourth installment of the Winter Classic.
Crosby's team played the Sabres in Buffalo in the first edition.
Also, Bettman said the Flames are expected to host the Montreal Canadiens at McMahon Stadium on Feb. 20.
Montreal played the Oilers in Edmonton in the 2003 Heritage Classic, the league's first outdoor regular-season game.
Two seasons ago, the Chicago Blackhawks hosted the Detroit Red Wings at Wrigley Field.
And last season, the Boston Bruins hosted the Philadelphia Flyers at Fenway Park.

Face it dude.  We have no marquee player anymore.  Hockey purists know how fantastic MN is for hockey but the ESPN idiots have no clue.  And, sucks for us, but they run the sports world.  It makes my blood boil really.

I know none of you guys on this sight, minus one or 2, are soccer fans.  ESPN has literrally taken a collective shit on the sport for pure laughs.  Their anchors on SC, and specialty shows like Rome Is Burning, would make blatant jokes about the sport.  I mean, really bad cheap shots.  Now?  The are kissing the ass of the soccer world because they landing the 2 biggest paydays in the sport.  Televising:

A.  The English Premier League games
B.  The WC

Take a look at their highlights now.  Soccer is always there, being covered by the same assholes who use to make fun of it.  Hell, they don't even pronounce the teams and players names correctly.

I know you're a soccer fan Jeff, but is it possible that we are seeing so much of european soccer is because they are paying ESPN so the sport gets more recognition?

Totally see where you are coming from, Jeff.
I see it. I Watch ESPN too much, and notice their trends/propoganda.
And you're 100% right.
Its pretty much exactly the same treatment hockey has/is/will be get/getting.
Laugh at it, but then act interested when you are told to, anchors ...

The main prime-time morning anchor (Josh) is your best promoter and a true fan, and he is loving the coverage and his passion shows thru.
He is now with soccer like I always say Melrose is with hockey, the one guy who can carry the sprt for those of us interested.
The leagues and the game owe a lot to guys like that, for pushing when it's not always easy.
Melrose has made himself a niche, an icon there ... love how they now go to him at times for opinions on other sports issues, THAT is ground-breaking stuff.
I hope ESPN keeps soccer coverage (they should) especially with all the freaking channels they now have.
And hockey simply needs to go back on ESPN somewhere, I don't care if you have to GIVE them the contract. The game will slowly die on VS, it just will.
Simply providing it for us hard-core fans somewhere is not enough to keep the sport viable, it has to be force-fed on the fringe viewers.

Nope.  ESPN but up huge dollars to take the EPL away from Fox Fargo.  That's a multi Billion dollar empire.  Check out all the big hitters in the US (Glazers, Anshultz ect..).  They are falling over themselves to become owners of EPL teams.

The 2 biggest names of all time in England (ManU and Liverpool) are owned by Americans.  Even the rich guys in Asia and the Middle East are trying to get in.

I've noticed his enthusiasm too man.  I just didn't know if it was for Soccer or Hannah Storm .

The guy that's been pumping soccer for years on ESPN is Tommy Smith but he's an idiot.  Actually, he's not that but more of a character with his saying like "back of the onion bag".  He does more harm than good IMO.

I'll admit mine is for Hannah
(depends on her outfit)
Still cracks me up how they now STAND OUT IN FRONT of screens to do their pieces.
Charley Steiner used to do his with his 'jama bottoms on, I'm sure of it.
(and no one wanted to see his outfit, or his frame, believe me)
Hannahs legs are a national treasure.
At least they know what sells.

And yeah, yeah, yeah ..... I know she's gettiing old and cougar-ish .... but that's my demographic.
I appreciate her. Lots of miles, but comfy as hell and reliable.

I think we finally get a hockey game tonight!!!!
Hope the guys aren't rusty.

They've drug this out long enough, even PMB could've grown half a beard by now.

5 to 5 at the end of the second period?  Where's the defense?  You got to like the action, though.

Certainly not the mismatch I expected.
Always hard to tell the level of play between East/West until they finally come together.
Philly surprised me with their speed and skill levels, every bit as good as Chicagos at this point.
Let down horribly by their tenders.
Leighton stayed deep in the net and got fried, Boucher came out and got fried. Just some horrible tending decisions that cost them every time.
May be more of a series than most thought .... Game Two is huge.

I'll give it up for Philly, they are playing it as close as it can be played so far.
Unfortunately, Chicago prolly plays better on the road, so this thing is over.
Chi's tending was a weakness, I thought, but he has been outstanding.
Great action last night, high intensity and a couple good bounces, and it's 2-0 and too much to overcome.
Sure hear a lot about Toews and Kane before and after games, not so much during.
And they are finding out why Campbell get sbooed everywhere he plays. What a chance-taking D-man who coughs it up a lot. Wow.
I can't stand the thought that Hossa finally has PICKED the right team. Wonder who he'll pick next?

For some reason I couldn't post last night or this AM.  My thoughts on the game are simple.  Bettman wants the cup in Chi.  Look, I HATE the Flyers but they are getting ultra screwed out there.  There were multiple, convienant, looks the other way.

A perfect example is Gagne at the end (when the goalie was pulled).  He was getting ready to fire a puck from the dots (in the middle of the ice too).  Niemi was looking to the right as the pass came across his body.  That would have had to have been a fantastic save, and Gagne can shoot.  No worries though.  They just took his body out with a sliding player at his feet.  100% penalty every time  yet, no call.  He was literally wiped out

Yep
For all the "wide open hockey" bs they have pushed for, they are letting tons of "crap" go on again.
Almost impossible to get a clean shot off, players now know (at least if you play for one of the elites), that you can slash, grab, trip, and hook again.
Its more subtle, but they've reduced a lot of the offense to grinding. (again)

Now that was fun.
Good action, and two desperate teams.
Niemmi continus to impress. Flyers outplayed them all night it seemed, but had nothing to show for it until the final goal.
Another Philly win really puts the gas back inthis series, if they can somehow get it done.

I thought it was over when Kane scored on the break away.  Nope.  Filthy came right back.  Tough group, I'll give them that.

Yep, that was gut-check after gut-check ...
Then they thought they may have scored in ot, no goal, and a minute later, right back all over them.
Some real grit in that locker room.

Big 'un tonight in Philly.
Hoping for a knock-down-drag-outter.
Lets see what Chicago is made of.

Do or die for Philly
Would be fun to get it to Game 7.
Philthy just doesn't quit, that game the other night could have easily been embarassing, but they do not roll over.

what's with the long delay?  Are they trying to steer clear of the NBA?  Not a bad idea if they are.

I don't watch too many Stanley Cup finals, but I'm floored by all the booing by the Philly fans at the presentation. The announcers just mentioned that the Flyer fans are staying here "very respectfully" but I don't see respect at all! They're just booing everything from the MVP award to the Stanley Cup award. If this is normal for hockey, I'm dismayed.

So the Hawks win.    Well, I wouldn't have really celebrated a Flyer win either, for what it's worth.  Weird ending to boot.  Kinda wanted to see a game 7 just for the suspense.

Ironically enough, I had dinner right next to Mark Parrish tonight (post golf event banquet).  Said he was rooting for Chicago mostly because of their American players.  Also is buds with Byfuglien.  Super nice dude.

Corleone, I participate in another golf event that Parrish hosts every year too. He really is a cool guy, and so generous with his donations for the event every year. I have one of his signed hockey sticks that I won in a raffle one year.

Very cool.  Small world, eh.

He's married to the daughter of a guy I know at my club.  Great people themselves.
