Sioux Falls, SD— The Sioux Falls Stampede are excited to announce they have signed Luverne’s Jaxon Nelson to a USHL tender agreement for the 2016-17 season. A tender allows a USHL club to sign a player directly to their team in exchange for their first-round pick in the USHL Phase One Draft in May. Nelson was the leading scorer in all of Minnesota State High School Hockey last season. This marks the first time in franchise history the Herd have tendered a player.

“We're very pleased to have Jaxon join the Stampede next year,” said Stampede head coach/general manager Scott Owens. “He's a big, strong forward with natural offensive ability and someone we're excited to work with on a daily basis. We welcome Jaxon and the Nelson family to the Stampede organization and look forward to the next two years together.”

Nelson is coming off a phenomenal sophomore year just over the border in Minnesota at Luverne High School. In just 25 games this season, Nelson tallied 113 points on 70 goals and 43 assists while leading the Cardinals to the Class 1A, Section 3 championship game. His 113 points and 70 goals were tops amongst any high school player in the state of Minnesota, Class A or AA. The Magnolia, MN native averaged 4.52 points per-game and tallied three or more goals in 16 of his 25 games including a season-high seven-goal outburst against New Ulm on January 8th.

I will so far in the A schools the games have been rather boring with 2 blowouts in the early sessions and another one starting in the first evening game.

First day is always rough in A
Fridays semis will be classics Instantly
Great matchups Friday
And the AA field is about as even as you 'll see. Top to bottom.

Probably the most-anticipated Class A semi ever just started.
Couple of Should-be-AA teams vying to move on to face Warroad on Saturday.

The criteria used to determine class by the MSHSL bugs me.

Schools get a break on student numbers By discounting those who get assistance for lunch.

Lewiston is in AA for everything

While Rushford Peterson and their new school

Sits in A

When in reality they have more kids; they just have more that get them under the minimum/maximum for the two classes

There is no way this school should be in the same class as towns 3-4 times their size

It never gets better in hockey, Ed
Always been the bitch, and always will be
These two can beat most AA schools.
But by all means, recruit recruit recruit, and stick around and win the single A crown.
Be proud
Took decades to get St Thomas to wise up, and by golly … look … they're at the top of AA now, too.
"Hockey schools" and "Privates" are very very simple to point out.
Once you point them out …. they play AA. Its not that hard, MSHSL.
But, just like their big brother the NCAA, they rarely get anything right.
End of period today … couple kids absolutely assault a couple others.
MSHSL puts their half a head together, and come back with
"no ejections and a couple penalties"
You morons. And next year all we will hear is whining, because the damn kids think fighting is allowed in HS hockey.
Where'd they get that idea?

Keep in mind that Warroad is not exactly the little engine that could. They scout and take all the best players from northern MN by dangling cushy jobs at Marvin Windows to the parents. Totally accurate. I have 3 cousins that were all really good hockey players. The oldest was in my class. By the time he was in 10th grade, they had their eyes on his little brother in 7th grade and their even littler brother down in 1st grade. Offered jobs to their parents at Marvin Windows if they would move to Warroad. I'm actually shocked they didn't go. By the time we were seniors, Kittson Central actually had a pretty good hockey team. I think they even beat Roseau and Warroad. It may have been EGF that kept us from going to State.

Sorry, I misunderstood. I do wonder if SMF is a big Warroad fan?

yes, they are out there
(meaning …. too fast for their head and hands to keep up)
Getting to the puck first is huge, but if you get there with no plan, you're not really helping.
