So Penn State is #16 in the country. Minnesota is unranked. Who woulda dreamt this even 2 years ago?

The Penn State goalie is super....umm....chunky. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Well, the high school games were fun like I figured they would be. Too bad the Gophers couldn't put up 2 good efforts in a row. Way too many bad turnovers and we still almost got a win. This is the worst Gophers team I can remember in many years. Now on to the Wild to see how low MN hockey can go.........

We outshot them and definitely dominated play during the 2nd and 3rd periods, even though we lost.

We did, but we still made way too many turnovers and mistakes that gave them the game. Have to give them credit, they cashed in when the chances were there even though Schierhorn played a pretty good game again.

So I just flipped on the game and there was a minute and a half left to go in the 3rd period with the Gophers up 4 to 3. Ohio State pulled their goalie and at one point one of the Gophers had a chance to shoot toward the empty net but banked it off the boards instead, just killing time and sure enough Ohio State scores the tying goal with .4 seconds left in the period.

On to overtime.

Granted, the quality of play is a step below what we are used to from the Gophers, but it was an entertaining game to watch. More than I can say about the Wild these days......
I hope we see some changes coming in both programs soon as it appears they have become stagnant under current leadership.

That played pissed me off. You are taught from a young age (at that level you better have been) to do 1 of 2 things:

1. Put you head down and GET to the center ice line and take the shot, hard.
2. If you can't get there flip that thing as high in the air as possible. Get air on it so there is only 2 options:
A. It goes too far, icing
B. They get to it but it's super deep in thier zone

What you absolutely don't do is "Wild" it up the ice gingerly so they come right back at a tired bunch.

Trust me, I never complain about a win. I may just complain about the route we took to get there. We (Minnesota sports fans) have seen pretty much every route a team can take to humiliating defeat, so when we see the signs of that coming along again we can't help but say "here we go again."
