Sucks that our leading scorer has mono though

For whatever problems the Don has had in coaching and recruiting over the last few years, he has been extraordinarily unlucky, as well. Whether it's the number of guys going pro, a number just leaving the team, guys getting injured/sick, or even his own health scare awhile back, Don's had a rough go of it. Here's to hoping these things turn around soon.

Good points, Pete, some tough years.
Some of his own doing (by his player choices), and some not of his own doing.
I'll always love the guy for putting us back on top where we belonged.
I'd love to see him have one more kick at the can, then ride triumphantly off into the Wayzata sunset.

Anyone watching this game really believe Helgeson is old enough for college?  He looks like he's  12.  He's the Ralph Macchio of hockey.

This game is a sick joke right now. The Gophers just can't sustain a thing offensively.

Need to regroup.  We still have 2 periods but the problem is when haven't done anything in the first that suggests we can comeback.  Need to come out on fire.  Another problem is that they typically don't take a lot of penalties.

Even if we can't dig out of this hole for tonight, I want to see some fight that might carry over to tomorrow.

Okay, back on the bandwagon -- let's scratch another one out this period and we're right there!

Ugh -- the Gophers are dominating this period in terms of pressure, but they're just not getting enough shots on net. For all the great chances on that power play, how on earth did they create no shots?

We fought Pete, that's a good thing but we just don't have it.  This team is missing something.

Damn fun last two periods.
Love seeing all the local boys on SCSU get a chance.
The Festlers, Hanowskis, Peckscamps of this state need the chacne to play DI, glad they are getting it.
Cepis is an amazing talent.
Un-stoppable motor. Created breakaways all by himself, with simply his speed and drive to the outside.
He's fun to watch. If a couple more of these guys get on board, we could make some noise yet.
Motzko has SCSU buzzing, they are an explosive club. Should be big fun Saturday, during Hockey Day in MN.
Btw, I know we discussed him before, but David Fischer getting all the ice time he does is mind-boggling.
Lots of miscues night after night.

One of hte most frustrating weekends of Gopher Hockey in history, imo.
Every one of our issues surfaced at the same time.
I simply cannot stand to watch these talented guys get beat anymore, simply because they refuse to accept the whole team concept thingy.
We've often argued about talent/ no talent/ dedication/etc ...
This is a team (again) of talented guys who just refuse to conform to the LEVEL OF PLAY.
Yes, you could dangle all day in HS and Development Leagues.
Yes, you were the stud of your team your whole life.
Yes, you could thread wonderful passes before and skate like the wind and shoot like a beast.
YOU CANNOT FREAKING DO IT HERE!
Stop tryting to make beautiful plays, every time you are on the ice.
Stop trying to dangle thru the other teams 5 guys because you assume they can't stop you. (they can)
Stop trying to make the extra pass, the extra handle, the extra mustard on everything, and simply DO things.
Every team we play gets that.
Its why we can out-shoot people (and always have) by 3-to-1 or 4-to-1 margins and still not even be in the game.
Filled with Nancys who think they are stars.
Schroeder went to the World Junior team and was told by Blais, "play it my way or go the hell home".
He did the simple things, was one of the best players, and won a gold medal. Since he has been back here, his play has deteriorated every shift.
We went 7-1-1 the last couple weeks due to weak schedule and a renewed sense of the things I talked about.
Fell back into the s.o.s. this weekend and embarassed ourselves.

Yeap, solid post man.  The SOH has become the State of "gift you a 3 or 4 goal lead".

And, I forget who but someone on here a while ago asked a really simple, yet excellent question.  Why can't we EVER have a shut down style goalie?

Swept by DU in a series we HAD to get a point out of.
Swept for the season, in fact.
Chevrie stopped 136 of our 138 shots on him this year.
Too many fancy nancys right now. Start beating the bushes for some men, Donny.

Halfway there, Jason!

Been hard on the boys this year, but they played with heart and desire tonight.
The Invisible Patrick White had a good night, and when Mr Kangas shows up and plays well, we will be in every game.
Desperately need to follow up with another effort like that one Saturday night.

Noticed that even the ex-Badger TV guys had to give it up for the maroon & gold after the game. Man, do I miss Frank and Doug on the call. What is up with our programming of Gopher hockey this season? It seems like either the games aren't on, or aren't broadcast live, or are on BTN with alien announcers who have trouble identifying our players by name.

Anyway, great effort as usual by these guys. We have a lot of Roberto Durand ("hands of stone") when we get inside scoring range. This has been the single standout theme for me as I watch this team since Kessel and Vanek left. We have zero snipers. Guys just get uptight with the puck in the offensive zone. I don't pretend to know how to correct that.

Always love seeing your posts, Mark ......
You are spot-on almost always (because i agree with almost every post)
And I love your outside insight on the same sports I follow.
You nailed the Gophers problem imo, and I personally have it with the team I help coach.
Hockey is, and always has, been that way. You are (in most cases) born a scorer .... or not.
And a collection of non-scorers can work their asses off night in and night out, and be fun and be moderately succesful, but you will never reach the pinnacle if you lack a natural-born-killer or two or three. It simply cannot be overcome.
Vanek and Kessel were assassins, and they still are (are you listening, Wild?).
This club right now, as you say, has none. Schroeder the closest, but too light-in-the-hockey-pants to be taken seriously in front of the net.
I cry for more grinders, but I'll always know, we will never win another national title until we find guys who find the back of the net EVERY night.

Some tense moments early in the third, but a good hang-on sweep.
Good call on the weekend Jason!
THAT looked more like Gopher hockey.
There was some fire at the right times, instead of complacency.
They are still a long ways from being serious contenders, but the flashes of brilliance are nice to see.
Its disappointing that every group that comes in doesn't have the success and get to feel the love that those national champ teams did.
Think that's why it's great to see a guy like GP back on the bench, he is a link to that glory and can tell them what it was like to be on top of the college hockey world.
God knows we'll never get there in BB or FB.
Great to see Pauly Martin in the house. I hope some weekend they can get together the whole group of living legends and let the fans show them some love.
We have had an incredible number of incredible players.
Glad to see the smile on Teflon Don today.
Tony is one of those kids who works his sack off, but simply can't throw the puck in the ocean.
His empty-netter was a hoot, he damn near missed it. The coaches all had the same reaction, and you know what it was .... "omg, he even almost missed that one, too!"
Ahhh, wins make you forget all those things.
Still got a shot this season. Get in and break some hearts, thats what can be saved for this season.
