For proof of the popularity disparity....look at the stands....there must be 12,000 at the men's game. There might be 12 at the women's.

Someone explain to my why you wouldn't pull Kangas with about 2:30 left if you're down by 2 goals and keeping some pressure in the Sioux zone? What have you got to lose at that point? Seems like they pulled him way too late.

Wasn't the Sioux goal scorer the same guy that should have been ejected from the game? Gophers should protest this game.

Good stuff Matt.
What a shame, the game, the end, the whole season.
Earliest Gopher finish to a season I can remember.
Ughhh.

I'm just curious. Has there ever, in the history of organized sports, been a time when the results of a game have been thrown out because of something that was determined on review? That would certainly be exciting.

This Gopher team (and it pains me to no end to say this) lacked so many things it's not at all shocking to see us bow out this early

Addition by subtraction actually.  He never played up to his potential.  Look at his game at the US nats versus the Gophs.

No more Frank and Doug for Gopher hockey.  That sucks as I thought Frank did a great job.  Doug, at this point is a talking puppet though.  LaPanta is taking over play-by-play and they haven't announced the analyst yet

I didn't mind Frank at all, but Woog was really hard to listen to. They're both big homers (and I expect a bit from our local broadcasters), but Woog sounds like a dinosaur trying to opine on rocket science.

On the other side - LaPanta does a very good job. I'm happy with that choice.

When I would watch UND/MN games, as a UND fan, I didn't get the impression that Frank was a typical homer announcer.  Agree that Doug is pretty much worthless.  I am sure not ready for LaPanta taking over.

And I gotta say...............hey Stacy....that picture stinks.

Wait - according to the article - they're KEEPING Woog? Oy.

quote:

Mike Dimond, the senior vice president and general manager of Fox Sports North, said Friday that Mazzocco’s contract won’t be renewed and Woog will have a new role on the telecasts in 2010-11.

"Doug's a valuable member of our team and has been an instrumental part of Gophers hockey for a long, long time," Dimond said. "We are working with Doug to try to identify the best role for him and don’t have it determined yet. Sometimes we may have a three-man booth [with Woog in it] and sometimes he may be on the pregame.”

This is just wrong.
Frank wasn't great, but he was the great one in that booth combo.
And I'm a Wooger guy.
This is just not cool. Its not Franks fault the team has sucked .
LaPantas roadkill hairpiece last night was on full-alert, it looked like a freshly-hit racoon.

Yup.  I've been a Woog guy too.  Pretty great for MN hockey overall but he was the weak link for sure.  Frank was good at his job, IMO.  He just has always had to overcompensate the past couple of years.  I actually think LaPanta is going to be way over his head.

It really does feel like the Gophers woes over the past couple of years are being blamed on Frank.  It's weird.

Jeez, Denver looked unbeatable for awhile.
Damn disappointing end to that season.
The WCHA needs to get back to kicking ass and taking names.
back to 3 of 4 teams in the Frozen Four.
Or 4 of 4. Lets bring the pride back to this league.
