His WR's caught everything thrown their way. it's not their fault he overthrows them by 10+ yards. He was bad today.

If Kill wants this to be a running team, he better fix the offensive line. His old team No Ill beat Iowa.

Drew it's hard to step into a throw when the defense is in your face all day.

No they didn't I saw a few blown catches including one on 3rd down in the first half. Nelson needs to get a hell of a lot better, but his receivers have not helped him.

I agree. OL didn't run block and they didn't protect well either. Like I said, Iowa whipped us at the LOS on both sides.

USC fired Lane Kiffen. Couldn't happen to nicer asshole. It's hard for me to believe I was a big Lane Kiffen guy when the Gophers hired Basement Brew. Looking back, I sure wish to hell they had hired Trestman back then. The program would be a lot farther along and I doubt he would have been interested in an NFL job if he had been coaching here.

I hate how Kiffen has evolved because I really wanted to cheer for a local guy who did well. But perhaps his upbringing with a football pedigree made him turn into an entitled brat who was destined to be a complete jerk.

Better find someone who can throw the ball. We've gone thru the easy part of the schedule and Nelsen's completion percentage is 51%. Teamwise, it's just over 52%.

If we play like that against Michigan, we will lose by like 50.

Didn't catch much of the game, but the parts I did see, we were not competitive. That's awful: we should at least be competitive by now in the Big 10. We were outclassed everywhere.

Head scratching that Nelson got that much run.

Unfortunately, his seizures seem to be happening more frequently instead of less so. It's too bad, because I think he's a good coach.

They hung in there OK for awhile. Nice TD pass to the tight end to cap off a beautiful drive. But after that, they just couldn't do anything on offense. Grinding it out like that takes perfection. And when the defense knows the gameplan is run, run, run, it gets pretty easy to shut that down eventually.

Ohio State, Michigan, and even Wisconsin have quality players at each of the positions, both on offense and defense....Minnesota does not, and for a while, we compete, but eventually, the quality of their players takes over to take control...

Happens too often, and until we can recruit quality players on offense and defense, we will be a mediocre, run of the mill, team.

Minnesota sports in general, have the same problems, except for Gopher Hockey, Gopher Women' hockey, WNBA.......recruiting is the name of the game for each sport...Let's see how Petino's team does this coming season!

This just in from the University of Minnesota, Head Coach Jerry Kill will be taking time away from football to focus on treatment for his epilepsy.

quote:

Minnesota Director of Athletics Norwood Teague announced today that head football coach Jerry Kill is continuing to take time to focus on his treatment and better manage his Epilepsy.
In Kill's absence, Tracy Claeys will take over as Interim Head Coach.

Statements from all of the necessary people.

Head Coach Jerry Kill

quote:

"My wife Rebecca, myself and our two daughters want to thank everyone for their prayers and concerns during the last few weeks. This was a difficult decision to make, but the right decision. Our staff has been together a long time and I have full confidence in Coach Claeys and them during my time away. Every decision that will be made will be in the best interest of the players and the program. I look forward to returning to the Minnesota sideline on a full-time basis soon."

Director of Athletics Norwood Teague

quote:

"Coach Kill is taking time to continue treatment and focus on managing his Epilepsy. Tracy Claeys will serve as the interim head coach until Coach Kill is ready to return. Coach Kill will remain in very close contact with the team and his staff and provide direction and support as needed. Our support for Coach Kill is unwavering and we look forward to his return to full-time coaching duties.

"This is a great group of student-athletes under the guidance of one of the longest-tenured and most respected staffs in college football, and there is no doubt in my mind that they will continue to move this program forward and make us proud."

University of Minnesota President Eric Kaler

quote:

"Athletics Director Norwood Teague and Coach Kill are managing this health situation, as it relates to our football program, in the most straightforward and caring manner possible. They are acting in the best interests of this University, its alumni and fans and, most importantly, the student-athletes who have placed their trust in us. I eagerly look forward to Coach Kill's return and wish him all the best."

What a poor decision to end 1st half. Plenty of time to try for the EZ and they call 2 running plays to settle for a FG. That tells me no confidence in either QB

Bad tackling
Shitty playcalling at times
Stupid penalties

it's been ugly so far. Hopefully that changes but this is a bad team.

Why is Engle our punt returner? He barely catches the ball and is absolutely no threat to return it.

This broadcast team is brutal. This entire game, once again, is all about Kill not being on the sidelines. it's even gotten worse now that they spotted him in the booth.

Much better in the 2nd half. Why do we always come out slow like that?

Phil Nelson was impressive today. He continues to have some accuracy issues, but he made most of the throws that had to be made. And he made good decisions by running when there was nobody open. What a terrible break when the refs took the TD away with a weird penalty. I thought that was the beginning of the end for us. But then the big INT returned for a TD, and we were right where we would have been if the bad penalty wasn't called.

Since we lost to Iowa in the Big Ten opener, I figured we'd go winless in conference play. Sigh of relief today. How does NW hang in there with Ohio State, and then lose to MN???

No Mark. No Colter. Plus we are probably an easy team to overlook. That said, I'll still take the win. One more and we can play in a minor bowl game.
