Overall I'm happy with how this game was.
I was not sorry at all for having to get up at 4am today to watch this.
The defense played very well and this gives hope for next week.
The offense was not awful, just they could not finish. They did some nice things, just could not help out by getting a score.
Some of the passes that Nelson missed today are plays he has been hitting the last four games so hopefully he'll regain touch/confidence next week.

I would not mind seeing some more passing plays called early, even maybe some screens, some short passes early and see if that might help get a nice rhythm in the passing game. I understand we've run fairly well but too often we seem to pass when we have to.

The game was not an embarrassment.
The team was competitive and I think the coaches had them ready to play.
Like many fans I'm happy to see this, good coaching, hard honest effort and competing every game.
I am looking forward to the MSU game and the bowl game and whatever the outcomes of those games the gophers really now have something to build on for the next season.

Again, I enjoyed watching the game today.
I must admit it looked cold there. Still hard to watch these games and the hockey games when sitting in 90+ degrees.

Cheers, Tim

Ughhhh. No offense Rod/Tim but that is the exact attitude that kills me. Yes, we wern't embarresed but is that the barometer? Defense was good, ST's was a wash....offense sucked ass.

We had a real chance today to make a statement, we didn't. It was there for the taking but our offense let us down.

How was that a pass interference? Didn't Abredaris just stop and our guy ran into him? The ball was thrown way behind him? Looked like a gift for Wisconsin to me.

That was a BS call.

I know what you're saying and certainly no offense taken, I was frustrated too that there were chances there to make a play and the offense certainly did not.

It was not intended as a fairweather fan simply saying "well, we competed" or "it's a moral victory at least". Though I know that's the way it come across.
It was meant as a more positive statement, certainly after the Iowa/Michigan games when many people appeared to have lost faith/written this team off as dead without a chance of being resuscitated.

I was certainly frustrated that there were chances to make that statement, and yes that was disappointing.
And it was disappointing that the offense could not make a play when it really needed to.

If this team had lost 2 or 3 of their last four games then I would agree 100%, with passion about how this team really blew a chance.
And while they did fail to make plays they needed to, I think what I was worried about is that this game was going to be very one sided and it was not.

I am by no means happy with a loss, and if next week is more the same of missed opportunities by missing plays that were there to be made it will be more disappointing.
I, and no doubt everyone, do not want to settle for "we played them tough" or the dreaded moral victory. But given the grave we're digging out of I'm not disappointed in the game as a whole.

I look forward to celebrating a win next week.
Bless the power of positive thinking. And the fact that we know we can play against a good team. Now we need to take that next step. I do think it's possible.

Cheers.

Jeff, I think we clearly lost to a better team in weather conditions that just so happen to fit Wisconsin's style better than our style. I thought the weather was a good thing, though, because it throws the "you never know" factor into it. Nelson just couldn't make it work in the cold.

If you mean the pass interference in the end zone that set up Wisconsin's final TD, I disagree. Our guy never made even the slightest attempt to look for the ball. The Wisconsin receiver tried to adjust back to it and our guy kept his head down and plowed right through him.

The Wisconsin receiver stopped the route because the ball landed 40 feet behind him.

The statement we made is that we have come a long way, but we aren't at the same level as the very best in the Big Ten yet. We get another chance at Michigan State.

No the ball landed in the end zone. Probably 5 yds short. In any case it doesn't let the DB off the hook for never attempting to look for the ball. If he looks back at all that call doesn't happen. In fact if he looked back he could have picked off the pass.

We're not talking about the final TD. This was one earlier in the game and was on the opposite side of the end zone from the one you're talking about. I don't have an issue with the call on the last TD.

My son's getting married today, so I will miss the game. I hope there are a lot of posts covering a great Gopher win to read when I get home tonight.

Congratulations, Tim!

Agree.  Nothing wrong with taking some positives away from the game while recognizing we have work left to do.  Glad the team (rightly or wrongly) protected the goal posts after the game.  Tired of being pushed around.  They lost Saturday, but they weren't pushed around.

I hear you, Jeff, when you say not being embarrassed shouldn't be the barometer.  That's absolutely true.  But objectively, this team is improving, and they showed it Saturday.

I like the improvement of the team, but until they can get the same type of big linemen like Wis, Mich, MSU, Ohio St and Iowa, I'm afraid they'll stay lower level

Horrible decision by MSU! That was a Ponder throw. Late, across his body, nothing on it.

They're lucky we didn't score on that.

Screw it ... I'm posting this .....
LOVE this Gopher effort today.
Couldn't be prouder.
We've finally assembled a coaching staff who "gets it"
And we've finally got some players tough enough to win anywhere.
Love where we are going with this program.
They are going nose to nose with the toughest team in the B10. In their house. Love it.

The QB play has to improve next year. Nelson or Liedner have to play better. The recieving corp needs some serious upgrading. I like the direction the program is heading. Defense is solid, Murray is a stud. Play calling in the red zone today was brutal.

Scott, couldn't agree more.  Areas for improvement, but this team has come a long way.  Hard to argue it's not headed in the right direction.
