Let's hope he stays out of downtown Mankato after the bars close.

Do any of you know anything about the Gophers new starting quarterback? What kind of a quarterback is he?

He is a Minnesota kid, who played his first two seasons of high school ball for Mankato West, before going to HS football power the IMG Academy in Florida. His junior year he lost out to senior Kellan Mond for the starting job. Mond was the starting QB for Texas A&M as a freshman last year. Last year Annexstad initially lost out to Miami commit Artur Sitkowski, but ultimately took the job away from him in September. Zack's coach at IMG said this about it ... “It became apparent that (Annexstad) probably was the guy,” Wright said. “Not because Art did anything wrong or there were issues with Art, but the confidence level that (Annexstad) had and that he brought to the offense. … He was good on the big stage.”... Sitkowsk flipped his commit to Rutgers and could be their starting QB this year.

Annexstad is about 6'3"/ 205 lbs and is considered a run / pass option QB, who can make explosive plays. His biggest asset appears to be between the ears. He has a reputation for making the right decisions and making them quickly. Apparently nothing phases him. Fleck and his HS coaches have all said that he spends more time going over film than any QB they have ever coached before. It's also a bit of a misnomer to call him a walk on. He turned down D1 offers from Illinois, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh to walk on at Minnesota.

On paper it all sounds great. Smart, talented kid who has been battle tested and is a product of one of the most prestigious HS football programs in the country. And he is "one of us" to boot. All we can do is cross our fingers and hope he lives up to billing.

He sounds like a stud to me. I'm all in!

He's young and it sounds like he will continue to want to get better and better. He sounds like he can be a solid leader for the team. Also, since he's not the prototypical NFL quarterback, perhaps he will stay here at the U.

Of course we all want to see how he does in games.

In fairness to Nelson, the press went over the top in vilifying him, while white washing Isaac Kolstad's role in the incident.

Might be the luckiest bounce of Fleck's career....this QB seems to want it bad.

Been researching ... it appears this kid is all in. On straightening out the issues we've had
Turning down D1 rides means something in my book.
Don't kid ourselves ... there ARE actually young people out there wanting to be a part of something big.
Wouldn't this be a cool story?

Fleck also has links now to IMG Academy---seems like a good idea:

Yep, get 3 studs out of IMG in one recruiting class and you have a chance to establish a pipeline. Let's hope these 3 love playing for Fleck and tell all their buddies still at IMG about it.

Former HS player from Lewiston is helping with the team this year.

Home for a couple of days as camp ended.
Said the players were camping out at the Stadium in a bonding exercise.

Huh. I would have thought Fleck would have them on a canoe trip.

Season opener tomorrow night.
Can tell in here the excitement is about to explode.

Did see the STrib article on the U alarmed by declining tix sales, in fooseball, and hoops.

Guess what? People get tired of non winnters.

I'm pretty excited to see how the team looks tonight. New Mexico State struggled vs Wyoming last week, but NMSU made a bowl game last season and could surprise us if we take a win for granted. As Coach Fleck says, the Gophers should be in no position to take any team for granted. Let's hope we see some solid Gophers football tonight. I think we will.

Florida football and Kentucky basketball are also having trouble selling tickets. It's a change throughout the country. Younger people don't like going to games. Younger people don't like going to movies. Younger people don't like leaving the house.

I can never get myself to not care about the Gophers FB team.
If we ever somehow, thru a miracle, got even GOOD .... I may just live in Nirvana the rest of my days.
Why is this so F-ing hard?
Why can't WE be the ones celebrating a surprise season once a decade? (like Northwestern or Iowa, etc?)
Its maddening.
But every year, I HOPE. Must be the Twins fan inside me.

Yeah, I would agree with that.

SnapGram and InstaChat

I don't know how the heck they can constantly be on some chat room / chat board, typing and sending messages...…..

This is me.
You can stop blowing smoke up me.
They've done NOTHING as far as reaching national-relevance goes in decades.
You know what I mean. We can all come in and sing songs and chase butterflies around the room, doesn't mean we are all high on the same drugs.
Somehow work our way into the Top Ten IN THE COUNTRY.
Just once. Whether its deserved or not. I don't care. Tired of this middle-to-the-bottom bullshit every year.
Have a year that makes REAL fans go "wow, we finally have a TEAM"

You should try to get 30 of them to focus on one thing for two hours once.

Doogie believes in these kids enough to say he expects them to compete for a B1G West championship NEXT year.

I'll one-up him.

I wouldn't be surprised if we are close this year.

It has resulted in them having no interest in anything else. Sports included. Sad.
