Mason had his quirks but he's by far the best HC during my lifetime as a Gopher fan.

Most would say Holtz. But I'm with you on Mason. We're the ecocentric types.

Holtz was a self serving snake oil salesman that didn't give a shit about the Gopher program. He used the Gophers as a stepping stone to bigger and better things and left as soon as he could.

According to a discussion between Laurinaitis and the play by play lady, I'm pretty sure James said that he had committed to MN then had a change of heart.

I found this story that confirms it.

Holtz coached the Gophers for how long? It seems like it was two years. I don't think he qualifies.

If you mean coaching and don't include recruiting. Kill was right there with Mason. No coach was better at the run game and online. Kill/Claeyes sure can coach a defense w/o top prospects.

Recruiting was Mason and Kills weakness. If you combine recruiting and coaching it is holtz.

This play-by-play team could use some polishing. Dull!!!

We all do know who Laureinitis is, right?

Nope.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Laurinaitis
Foolishly spurned the hometown Gophers to play for the Buckeyes... He's dead to me.

Didn't he commit to Glen Mason and then change to Ohio State when Mason was fired?

Laurinaitis graduated Ohio State before Mason was fired. According to Laurinaitis' parents, Mason never bothered to even try to recruit him. They were completely baffled by it.

When they asked Mason about it, he probably gave them the same baffled look he always had when looking at the scoreboard.

Some smart-ass on here coined it "Glen Mason Face"

Baker Mayfield called Zack Annexstad before his debut as #Gophers starting quarterback Thursday, coach PJ Fleck said. “That was cool,” Annexstad told Fleck. Mayfield, Heisman Trophy winner/Browns’ top pick, and Annexstad believed to be only true freshmen walk-ons to start Week 1.

Yep. I did follow that 1967 season when the Gophers won a share of the Big Ten title, but sat home because Indiana hadn't gone to the Rose Bowl in a longer time and they didn't have 8,000 bowl games.

Except Warmath let colored boys play for him back then.

Fresno scored 79 points last weekend?

Kansas lost to Nichols State in OT

12th straight loss

have a new AD, who issued a statement saying the program is being evaluated.

Bad news for the coach, who is 3-34 since taking over the program in 2015.

Fresno State will be a tough game. They are not your typical non conference human sacrifice.

That program has just been god-awful for a long time.
Wefald left here and went there, and it's been downhill since.
BB is king, but jeeezus, ya gotta at least compete once a lifetime.
Charlie Weis set em back a dozen years, that overweight twit.

Gopher game is 0-0 about 5 minutes in Gopher ball. I haven't figured out how to watch it yet so I'm following the ESPN gamecast.
