strib blog Naming a finalist for the University of Minnesota presidency wasn't the only item of interest at Friday's meeting of the university's Board of Regents. Members were also updated, in general terms, about the ongoing search for a new football coach.         "We will have a very strong pool" of candidates to choose from, board chairman Clyde Allen said. "We have a very strong team working on that effort. Some of the names of people working with (athletic director Joel Maturi are) well-known names and well-respected."         Allen reiterated his support for Maturi, who is in charge of the search for Tim Brewster's successor, and outgoing president Robert Bruininks, who will approve Maturi's choice. "It is this administration that will make the decision," Allen said. "There is a very large and strong group who have passion. Most work very quietly and very effectively behind the scenes. I want to assure you that the team working on the issue is knowledgeable and passionate. It's moving along well."
