Getting schooled.

Looking bad at it, too.

I have no clue why Adam Webber continues to QB this team.

Are you playing D-back for the Gophs?
Pathetic defense tonight, just cannot offer much resistance at all.
It's boyz vs men

Webber started ok, then back to SOS

Misses open receivers, terrible INT at the end of the half.

Move on already.

Yep
Couple of us been begging for that for years.
You finally get a big-time talen tin Gray, then convert him to WR.
Webers put up numbers.
What has it done for this program?

He's made it into the "record books".

In 10 years, the uninformed will actually think he was a good QB.

Talent level is likely close to night/day.

BUT......

in this day and age of the spread, a QB who can run and throw changes everything. Ask Auburn.

Gray was brought in for the spread, and they dumped it after the OC left.

How stupid was that. Gray's QB potential was lost. Shame. Be more entertaining than Webber.

Like the Hohensee flashback.

I remember that W.

1981.

Cripes, this program has sucked for a long time. Why do I ever think they'll turn it around?

It's like hoping the Vikes will get to the Super Bowl. That's been THIRTY-FOUR years.

Only a few nice wins. NEVER a contender in the Big 10 that I can ever remember. Sad.

Hear ya Ed
I live with this stupid dream every year that it will change.
Sad that I hold on to games from 25-30 years ago for hope ... like that's gonna mean a thing now.
Ricky Upchurch ain't walking thru that door. Neither is Ricky Foggie.  Or even Laurence Maroney or Marion Barber (both of 'em).
I grew up as a little kid taking in a couple games a year in the old bowl. I really don't even care to go right now. It's the waste of a 6-hr round trip.

As much as it hurts ... it's great to see the programs who "get it".
You look at Iowa today ... up big (surprisingly) at half. By 30-0.
If we EVER got that lucky to have a perfect day, you know what we'd do? Take knees, be nice, pull back.
I like what I saw Iowa do today, and what OSU is doing now. When you get on top of someone, knock them out.
I'd die happy if we ever got a leader and a program that would/could do that. I always bring up the dynasty teams of my youth, and why we never get there ...
The Niners, when up by 20, were hungry to be up 30. The Steelers pounded you into the ground harder, the more they got you down. The Vikings? Even when good ... were happy with 3 pt wins. You'll never win the big ones that way.
The Big 8 CFB teams used to do it too. Nebraska and Oklahoma, when they got good, they poured it on. Your time on top is so limited, enjoy it and don't apologize.

And of course, none of this has anything to do with us.
We are simply light-years away from even being competitive.
Look at what happened to Purdue today, and we were supposed to be pleased to stay close to them. Please.
This season cannot end soon enough.

They didn't dump it after Bennett left. Brewster dumped it in mid-season and then ran the OC off. This of course was after he spent 2 years recruiting players to fit the spread.

Amazing.
We can't even punch it in in garbage time.
Still perfect in the foot-shooting department.

And let me guess ... the post-game talk will be dominated by whining about OSU still throwing right now.

Yep, our local HS finally made a section final again with a big win last night.
Night wasn't a complete loss.

You guys should check out the blog today on the Gopher football program.  It hits pretty hard but it's dead on.  Guy (can't remember his name) said he offered up FREE tickets to the game and nobody even wanted them.  Pretty sad state of affairs in Gopher land.

Ok, so we are looking at at 1-10 season.  Whoever predicted a one win year probably nailed it.  Of course you win nothing.......

It's easy to complain about the program, however; what would YOU do if you became the new Head Coach this week (for next year also).  Be specific and detailed.  Who's in?

Good idea karl .. you do the same.
First off, people have to stop associating "being hard on the players" with "ripping the program's results".
I bleed Maroon and Gold. Always have, always will. I love every kid who commits fully to this university.
That said, signing on to play here means you will be held to standards. if kids are giving their all and doing what they are told, they deserve 100% support, and get it from me.
Comments we make on these athletes differ from the ones we make on pros, (for the most part). All gloves are off on pros, imo.
If we get on Weber, I think most of that is about the coach's decision to play Weber. (just a disclaimer to get going)

I'm kind of in a different camp than most. I understand wanting a "name" guy. An established builder who has built before. I'm ok with that if it happens.
But I really think it may be a great time to try something I've always wanted to see.... a total commitment to the state of Minnesota.
I'm not dumb enough to think we can fully field MN kids and win. I understand our limitations. But I'd really like to see a coach come in, demand and get respect from Mn HS coaches, and demand and get respect from all Mn kids who can play at the D1 level. There has been a steady stream of MN kids contributing to good Wisconsin, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Iowa teams, to name a few.
Of course, you have to land out-state guys who up your talent level. But until we stop losing our top kids, we can't complain about what they do everywhere else.
We complain thru the years and say MN kids lack speed or size or ability, yet you see them succeed in those other places.
Recruit them, respect them, and use them. Build some pride. And in that regard, I think you are better off going after a coach who is just like the program .... starting from scratch at the D1 level.
Someone who must mirror the program ... he must be hungry, dedicated, optimistic, hard-working, resilient, and loyal. Thats why I think it might take a young, Mn-based guy with ideas and pride and vision.
Because ... you have to look at the results you have gotten when you did not go that route ... when you went to Texas and Florida and Ohio for the majority of your players .... did it make you succesful?
We've lost games to South and North Dakota now. We are no longer "protecting" anything. No pride, no automatic respect.
We are at ground zero.
You know me ...  more on this coming later. (probably)

This one? http://www.startribune.com/yourvoices/106394733.html

Nadine is definitely not a guy. I highly recommend the coverage over at Gopher Hole, btw. She gets a lot of great interviews with Gopher Basketball players and recruits (if that's your thing).

Oh, my .... it just dawned on me ... (as Nadine points out)
Iowa plays in our shiny new stadium in a couple weeks.
THAT will take embarassing to new levels. There might not even be "pockets" of Gopher fans there. It will be all black and gold.
Lock all the bathroom doors, now. It's gonna be an Iowa-orgy.
